സഭാപ്രസംഗി 8

1 ജ്ഞാനിക്കു തുല്യനായിട്ടു ആരുള്ളു? കാര്യത്തിന്റെ പൊരുൾ അറിയുന്നവൻ ആർ? മനുഷ്യന്റെ ജ്ഞാനം അവന്റെ മുഖത്തെ പ്രകാശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ മുഖത്തെ കാഠിന്യം മാറിപ്പോകുന്നു.

The wisdom of a man shineth in his countenance, and the most mighty will change his face.

2 ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ ചെയ്ത സത്യം ഓർത്തിട്ടു രാജാവിന്റെ കല്പന പ്രമാണിച്ചുകൊള്ളേണം എന്നു ഞാൻ പ്രബോധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

I observe the mouth of the king, and the commandments of the oath of God.

3 നീ അവന്റെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടുപോകുവാൻ ബദ്ധപ്പെടരുതു; ഒരു ദുഷ്കാര്യത്തിലും ഇടപെടരുതു; അവൻ തനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടമുള്ളതൊക്കെയും ചെയ്യുമല്ലോ.

Be not hasty to depart from his face, and do not continue in an evil work: for he will do all that pleaseth him:

4 രാജകല്പന ബലമുള്ളതു; നീ എന്തു ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു അവനോടു ആർ ചോദിക്കും?

And his word is full of power: neither can any man say to him: Why dost thou so?

5 കല്പന പ്രമാണിക്കുന്നവന്നു ഒരു ദോഷവും സംഭവിക്കയില്ല; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ഹൃദയം കാലത്തെയും ന്യായത്തെയും വിവേചിക്കുന്നു.

He that keepeth the commandments shall find no evil. The heart of a wise man understandeth time and answer.

6 സകല കാര്യത്തിന്നും കാലവും ന്യായവും ഉണ്ടല്ലോ; മനുഷ്യന്റെ അരിഷ്ടത അവന്നു ഭാരമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

There is a time and opportunity for every business, and great affliction for man:

7 സംഭവിപ്പാനിരിക്കുന്നതു അവൻ അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; അതു എങ്ങനെ സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു അവനോടു ആർ അറിയിക്കും?

Because he is ignorant of things past, and things to come he cannot know by any messenger.

8 ആത്മാവിനെ തടുപ്പാൻ ആത്മാവിന്മേൽ അധികാരമുള്ള ഒരു മനുഷ്യനുമില്ല; മരണദിവസത്തിന്മേൽ അധികാരമുള്ളവനുമില്ല; യുദ്ധത്തിൽ സേവാവിമോചനവുമില്ല; ദുഷ്ടത ദുഷ്ടന്മാരെ വിടുവിക്കയുമില്ല.

It is not in man’s power to stop the spirit, neither hath he power in the day of death, neither is he suffered to rest when war is at hand, neither shall wickedness save the wicked.

9 ഇതൊക്കെയും ഞാൻ കണ്ടു; മനുഷ്യന്നു മനുഷ്യന്റെമേൽ അവന്റെ ദോഷത്തിന്നായി അധികാരമുള്ള കാലത്തു സൂര്യന്നു കീഴെ നടക്കുന്ന സകലപ്രവൃത്തിയിലും ഞാൻ ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചു. ദുഷ്ടന്മാർ അടക്കം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു വിശ്രാമം പ്രാപിക്കുന്നതും

All these things I have considered, and applied my heart to all the works that are done under the sun. Sometimes one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.

10 നേർ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചവർ വിശുദ്ധസ്ഥലം വിട്ടുപോകേണ്ടിവരികയും പട്ടണത്തിൽ മറക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതും ഞാൻ കണ്ടു; അതും മായ അത്രേ.

I saw the wicked buried: who also when they were yet living were in the holy place, and were praised in the city as men of just works: but this also is vanity.

11 ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കുള്ള ശിക്ഷാവിധി തൽക്ഷണം നടക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു മനുഷ്യർ ദോഷം ചെയ്‌വാൻ ധൈര്യപ്പെടുന്നു.

For because sentence is not speedily pronounced against the evil, the children of men commit evils without any fear.

12 പാപി നൂറു പ്രാവശ്യം ദോഷം ചെയ്കയും ദീർഘായുസ്സോടെ ഇരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്ന ഭക്തന്മാർക്കു നന്മ വരുമെന്നു ഞാൻ നിശ്ചയമായി അറിയുന്നു.

But though a sinner do evil a hundred times, and by patience be borne withal, I know from thence that it shall be well with them that fear God, who dread his face.

13 എന്നാൽ ദുഷ്ടന്നു നന്മ വരികയില്ല; അവൻ ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടായ്കയാൽ നിഴൽപോലെ അവന്റെ ആയുസ്സു ദീർഘമാകയില്ല.

But let it not be well with the wicked, neither let his days be prolonged, but as a shadow let them pass away that fear not the face of the Lord.

14 ഭൂമിയിൽ നടക്കുന്ന ഒരു മായ ഉണ്ടു: നീതിമാന്മാർക്കു ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു യോഗ്യമായതു ഭവിക്കുന്നു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാർക്കു നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു യോഗ്യമായതും ഭവിക്കുന്നു; അതും മായ അത്രേ എന്നു ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു.

There is also another vanity, which is done upon the earth. There are just men to whom evils happen, as though they had done the works of the wicked: and there are wicked men, who are as secure, as though they had the deeds of the just: but this also I judge most vain.

15 ആകയാൽ ഞാൻ സന്തോഷത്തെ പ്രശംസിച്ചു; തിന്നു കുടിച്ചു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നതല്ലാതെ മനുഷ്യന്നു സൂര്യന്റെ കീഴിൽ മറ്റൊരു നന്മയുമില്ലല്ലോ; ദൈവം സൂര്യന്റെ കീഴിൽ അവന്നു നല്കുന്ന ആയുഷ്കാലത്തു അവന്റെ പ്രയത്നത്തിൽ അവനോടുകൂടെ നിലനില്ക്കുന്നതു ഇതുമാത്രമേയുള്ളു.

Therefore I commended mirth, because there was no good for a man under the sun, but to eat, and drink, and be merry, and that he should take nothing else with him of his labour in the days of his life, which God hath given him under the sun.

16 ഭൂമിയിൽ നടക്കുന്ന കാര്യം കാണ്മാനും - മനുഷ്യന്നു രാവും പകലും കണ്ണിൽ ഉറക്കം വരുന്നില്ലല്ലോ - ജ്ഞാനം ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും ഞാൻ മനസ്സുവെച്ചപ്പോൾ

And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to understand the distraction that is upon earth: for there are some that day and night take no sleep with their eyes.

17 സൂര്യന്റെ കീഴിൽ നടക്കുന്ന പ്രവൃത്തി ആരാഞ്ഞറിവാൻ മനുഷ്യന്നു കഴിവില്ല എന്നിങ്ങനെ ഞാൻ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സകല പ്രവൃത്തിയെയും കണ്ടു; മനുഷ്യൻ എത്ര പ്രയാസപ്പെട്ടു അന്വേഷിച്ചാലും അതിനെ ഗ്രഹിക്കയില്ല; ഒരു ജ്ഞാനി തന്നേയും അതിനെ ഗ്രഹിപ്പാൻ നിരൂപിച്ചാൽ അവന്നു സാധിക്കയില്ല.

And I understood that man can find no reason of all those works of God that are done under the sun: and the more he shall labour to seek, so much the less shall he find: yea, though the wise man shall say, that he knoweth it, he shall not be able to find it.
