ആവർത്തനപുസ്തകം 21

1 നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുന്ന ദേശത്തു വയലിൽ ഒരുത്തനെ കൊന്നിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു കാണുകയും അവനെ കൊന്നവൻ ആരെന്നു അറിയാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്താൽ നിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരും

Then there shall be found in the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee, the corpse of a man slain, and it is not known who is guilty of the murder,

2 ന്യായധിപതിമാരും പുറത്തു ചെന്നു കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവന്റെ ചുറ്റുമിരിക്കുന്ന അതതു പട്ടണംവരെയുള്ള ദൂരം അളക്കേണം.

Thy ancients and judges shall go out, and shall measure from the place where the body lieth the distance of every city round about:

3 കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവന്നു അധികം അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാർ, വേല ചെയ്യിക്കാത്തതും നുകം വെക്കാത്തതുമായ ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെ കൊണ്ടുവരേണം.

And the ancients of that city which they shall perceive to be nearer than the rest, shall take a heifer of the herd, that hath not drawn in the yoke, nor ploughed the ground,

4 ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാർ ഉഴവും വിതയും ഇല്ലാത്തതും നീരൊഴുക്കുള്ളതുമായ ഒരു താഴ്‌വരയിൽ പശുക്കിടാവിനെ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു പശുക്കിടാവിന്റെ കഴുത്തു ഒടിച്ചുകളയേണം.

And they shall bring her into a rough and stony valley, that never was ploughed, nor sown: and there they shall strike off the head of the heifer:

5 പിന്നെ ലേവ്യരായ പുരോഹിതന്മാർ അടുത്തു ചെല്ലേണം; അവരെയല്ലോ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ തനിക്കു ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്‌വാനും യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തിൽ അനുഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതു; അവരുടെ വാക്കിൻ പ്രകാരം സകലവ്യവഹാരവും അടികലശലും തീർക്കേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

And the priests the sons of Levi shall come, whom the Lord thy God hath chosen to minister to him, and to bless in his name, and that by their word every matter should be decided, and whatsoever is clean or unclean should be judged.

6 കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവന്നു അടുത്ത പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും താഴ്‌വരയിൽവെച്ചു കഴുത്തൊടിച്ച പശുക്കിടാവിന്മേൽ തങ്ങളുടെ കൈ കഴുകി:

And the ancients of that city shall come to the person slain, and shall wash their hands over the heifer that was killed in the valley,

7 ഞങ്ങളുടെ കൈകൾ ആ രക്തം ചിന്നീട്ടില്ല, ഞങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ണു അതു കണ്ടിട്ടുമില്ല.

And shall say: Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it.

8 യഹോവ, നീ വീണ്ടെടുത്തിട്ടുള്ള നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു ക്ഷമിക്കേണമേ; നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേ കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം ഇരിപ്പാൻ ഇടവരുത്തരുതേ എന്നു പറയേണം; എന്നാൽ ആ രക്തപാതകം അവരോടു മോചിക്കപ്പെടും.

Be merciful to thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, O Lord, and lay not innocent blood to their charge, in the midst of thy people Israel. And the guilt of blood shall be taken from them:

9 ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവെക്കു ഹിതമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയേണം.

And thou shalt be free from the innocent’s blood, that was shed, when thou shalt have done what the Lord hath commanded thee.

10 നീ ശത്രുക്കളോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്‌വാൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടിട്ടു നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അവരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിക്കയും നീ അവരെ ബദ്ധന്മാരായി പിടിക്കയും ചെയ്താൽ

If thou go out to fight against thy enemies, and the Lord thy God deliver them into thy hand, and thou lead them away captives,

11 ആ ബദ്ധന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ സുന്ദരിയായൊരു സ്ത്രീയെ കണ്ടു ഭാര്യയായി എടുപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം അവളോടു പ്രേമം ജനിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ

And seest in the number of the captives a beautiful woman, and lovest her, and wilt have her to wife,

12 നീ അവളെ വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോകേണം; അവൾ തലമുടി ചിരെക്കയും നഖം മുറിക്കയും ബദ്ധവസ്ത്രം മാറി

Thou shalt bring her into thy house: and she shall shave her hair, and pare her nails,

13 നിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ പാർത്തു ഒരു മാസം തന്റെ അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയെയും കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിക്കയും ചെയ്തശേഷം നീ അവളുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു അവൾക്കു ഭർത്താവായും അവൾ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായും ഇരിക്കേണം.

And shall put off the raiment, wherein she was taken: and shall remain in thy house, and mourn for her father and mother one month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and shalt sleep with her, and she shall be thy wife.

14 എന്നാൽ നിനക്കു അവളോടു ഇഷ്ടമില്ലാതെയായെങ്കിൽ അവളെ സ്വതന്ത്രയായി വിട്ടയക്കേണം; അവളെ ഒരിക്കലും വിലെക്കു വിൽക്കരുതു; നീ അവളെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവളോടു കാഠിന്യം പ്രവർത്തിക്കരുതു.

Rut if afterwards she please thee not, thou shalt let her go free, but thou mayst not sell her for money nor oppress her by might because thou hast humbled her.

15 ഒരുത്തി ഇഷ്ടയായും മറ്റവൾ അനിഷ്ടയായും ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരാൾക്കു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാർ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കയും അവർ ഇരുവരും അവന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിക്കയും ആദ്യജാതൻ അനിഷ്ടയുടെ മകൻ ആയിരിക്കയും ചെയ്താൽ

If a man have two wives, one beloved, and the other hated, and they have had children by him, and the son of the hated be the firstborn,

16 അവൻ തന്റെ സ്വത്തു പുത്രന്മാർക്കു ഭാഗിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുമ്പോൾ അനിഷ്ടയുടെ മകനായ ആദ്യജാതന്നു പകരം ഇഷ്ടയുടെ മകന്നു ജ്യേഷ്ഠാവകാശം കൊടുത്തുകൂടാ.

And he meaneth to divide his substance among his sons: he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn, and prefer him before the son of the hated.

17 തനിക്കുള്ള സകലത്തിലും രണ്ടു പങ്കു അനിഷ്ടയുടെ മകന്നു കൊടുത്തു അവനെ ആദ്യജാതനെന്നു സ്വീകരിക്കേണം; അവൻ അവന്റെ ബലത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭമല്ലോ; ജ്യേഷ്ഠാവകാശം അവന്നുള്ളതാകുന്നു.

But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, and shall give him a double portion of all he hath: for this is the first of his children, and to him are due the first birthrights.

18 അപ്പന്റെയോ അമ്മയുടെയോ വാക്കു കേൾക്കാതെയും അവർ ശാസിച്ചാലും അനുസരിക്കാതെയുമിരിക്കുന്ന ശഠനും മത്സരിയുമായ മകൻ ഒരുത്തന്നു ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ

If a man have a stubborn and unruly son, who will not hear the commandments of his father or mother, and being corrected, slighteth obedience:

19 അമ്മയപ്പന്മാർ അവനെ പിടിച്ചു പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി:

They shall take him and bring him to the ancients of his city, and to the gate of judgment,

20 ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഈ മകൻ ശഠനും മത്സരിയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കാത്തവനും തിന്നിയും കുടിയനും ആകുന്നു എന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരോടു പറയേണം.

And shall say to them: This our son is rebellious and stubborn, he slighteth hearing our admonitions, he giveth himself to revelling, and to debauchery and banquetings:

21 പിന്നെ അവന്റെ പട്ടണക്കാർ എല്ലാവരും അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊല്ലേണം. ഇങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്നു ദോഷം നീക്കിക്കളയേണം; യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം കേട്ടു ഭയപ്പെടേണം.

The people of the city shall stone him: and he shall die, that you may take away the evil out of the midst of you, and all Israel hearing it may be afraid.

22 ഒരുത്തൻ മരണയോഗ്യമായ ഒരു പാപം ചെയ്തിട്ടു അവനെ കൊന്നു ഒരു മരത്തിൽ തൂക്കിയാൽ

When a man hath committed a crime for which he is to be punished with death, and being condemned to die is hanged on a gibbet:

23 അവന്റെ ശവം മരത്തിന്മേൽ രാത്രി മുഴുവനും ഇരിക്കരുതു; അന്നുതന്നേ അതു കുഴിച്ചിടേണം; തൂങ്ങിമരിച്ചവൻ ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ ശാപഗ്രസ്തൻ ആകുന്നു; നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുന്ന ദേശം നീ അശുദ്ധമാക്കരുതു.

His body shall not remain upon the tree, but shall be buried the same day: for he is accursed of God that hangeth on a tree: and thou shalt not defile thy land, which the Lord thy God shall give thee in possession.
