1 കൈസര്യയിൽ ഇത്താലിക എന്ന പട്ടാളത്തിൽ കൊർന്നേല്യൊസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു ശതാധിപൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
Now there was at Caesarea a man named Cornelius, a captain in the Italian regiment.
2 അവൻ ഭക്തനും തന്റെ സകലഗൃഹത്തോടും കൂടെ ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നവനുമായി ജനത്തിന്നു വളരെ ധർമ്മം കൊടുത്തും എപ്പോഴും ദൈവത്തോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചും പോന്നു.
He was a devout man and God-fearing, and so were all his household. He gave many alms to the people, and constantly prayed to God.
3 അവൻ പകൽ ഏകദേശം ഒമ്പതാം മണിനേരത്തു ഒരു ദർശനത്തിൽ ഒരു ദൈവദൂതൻ തന്റെ അടുക്കൽ അകത്തു വരുന്നതു സ്പഷ്ടമായി കണ്ടു: കൊർന്നേല്യൊസേ എന്നു തന്നോടു പറയുന്നതും കേട്ടു.
About three o’clock one afternoon he had a vision, and distinctly saw an angel of God enter his house and say to him, "Cornelius."
4 അവൻ അവനെ ഉറ്റു നോക്കി ഭയപരവശനായി: എന്താകുന്നു കർത്താവേ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അവൻ അവനോടു: നിന്റെ പ്രാർത്ഥനയും ധർമ്മവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
He stared at him in terror, and said, "What is it, Lord?" "Your prayers and your alms have risen for a memorial before God," answered the angel;
5 ഇപ്പോൾ യോപ്പയിലേക്കു ആളയച്ചു, പത്രൊസ് എന്നു മറുപേരുള്ള ശിമോനെ വരുത്തുക.
"and now send men to Joppa and fetch one Simon, who is called Peter.
6 അവൻ തോൽക്കൊല്ലനായ ശിമോൻ എന്നൊരുവനോടു കൂടെ പാർക്കുന്നു. അവന്റെ വീടു കടല്പുറത്തു ആകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"He is staying as a guest with Simon, a tanner, whose house is near the sea."
7 അവനോടു സംസാരിച്ച ദൂതൻ പോയ ശേഷം അവൻ തന്റെ വേലക്കാരിൽ രണ്ടുപേരെയും തന്റെ അടുക്കൽ അകമ്പടി നില്ക്കുന്നവരിൽ ദൈവഭക്തനായോരു പടയാളിയേയും
And after the angel who was speaking to him was gone, he called two of his household servants and a devout soldier who was in constant attendance upon him,
8 വിളിച്ചു സകലവും വിവരിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു യോപ്പയിലേക്കു അയച്ചു
and after telling them everything, he sent them to Joppa.
9 പിറ്റെന്നാൾ അവർ യാത്രചെയ്തു പട്ടണത്തോടു സമീപിക്കുമ്പോൾ പത്രൊസ് ആറാം മണിനേരത്തു പ്രാർത്ഥിപ്പാൻ വെണ്മാടത്തിൽ കയറി.
The next day, while they were still on their way and were approaching the town, about noon, Peter went up to the housetop to pray.
10 അവൻ വളരെ വിശന്നിട്ടു ഭക്ഷിപ്പാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവർ ഒരുക്കുമ്പോഴേക്കു അവന്നു ഒരു വിവശത വന്നു.
He had become very hungry and longed for food; but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance.
11 ആകാശം തുറന്നിരിക്കുന്നതും വലിയൊരു തുപ്പട്ടിപോലെ നാലു കോണും കെട്ടീട്ടു ഭൂമിയിലേക്കു ഇറക്കിവിട്ടോരു പാത്രം വരുന്നതും അവൻ കണ്ടു.
He beheld the sky opened, and a vessel descending like an enormous sail let down to earth by four corners.
12 അതിൽ ഭൂമിയിലെ സകലവിധ നാൽക്കാലിയും ഇഴജാതിയും ആകാശത്തിലെ പറവയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
In it were all kinds of quadrupeds and creeping things of the earth, and wild birds.
13 പത്രൊസേ, എഴുന്നേറ്റു അറുത്തു തിന്നുക എന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദം ഉണ്ടായി.
A voice came to him, saying, "Rise, Peter, kill and eat."
14 അതിന്നു പത്രൊസ്: ഒരിക്കലും പാടില്ല, കർത്താവേ; മലിനമോ അശുദ്ധമോ ആയതൊന്നും ഞാൻ ഒരുനാളും തിന്നിട്ടില്ലല്ലോ.
"Not so, my Lord," answered Peter, "for I have never yet eaten anything common and unclean."
15 ആ ശബ്ദം രണ്ടാംപ്രാവശ്യം അവനോടു: ദൈവം ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചതു നീ മലിനമെന്നു വിചാരിക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And again a second time came to him a voice, saying, "What God has cleansed you must not call common."
16 ഇങ്ങനെ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം ഉണ്ടായി; ഉടനെ പാത്രം തിരികെ ആകാശത്തിലേക്കു വലിച്ചെടുത്തു.
This happened three times; and immediately the sail was drawn up into the sky.
17 ഈ കണ്ട ദർശനം എന്തായിരിക്കും എന്നു പത്രൊസ് ഉള്ളിൽ ചഞ്ചലിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ കൊർന്നേല്യൊസ് അയച്ച പുരുഷന്മാർ ശിമോന്റെ വീടു ചോദിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പടിവാതിൽക്കൽ നിന്നു:
Now while Peter was greatly perplexed to know what the vision which he had been sent by Cornelius, and had made inquiries for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,
18 പത്രൊസ് എന്നു മറു പേരുള്ള ശിമോൻ ഇവിടെ പാർക്കുന്നുണ്ടോഎന്നു വിളിച്ചു ചോദിച്ചു.
and called and asked whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there.
19 പത്രൊസ് ദർശനത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ആത്മാവു അവനോടു: മൂന്നു പുരുഷന്മാർ നിന്നെ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു;
So the Spirit said to Peter, who was still pondering over the vision.
20 നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുക; ഞാൻ അവരെ അയച്ചതാകകൊണ്ടു ഒന്നും സംശയിക്കാതെ അവരോടു കൂടെ പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"Three men are now looking for you. Rise, go down and go with them, nothing doubting; for it is I who have sent them."
21 പത്രൊസ് ആ പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു: നിങ്ങൾ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നവൻ ഞാൻ തന്നെ; നിങ്ങൾ വന്ന സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
So Peter went down to the men and said. "I am the man you are looking for. What is the reason of your coming?"
22 അതിന്നു അവർ: നീതിമാനും ദൈവഭക്തനും യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ സകലജാതിയാലും നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യംകൊണ്ടവനും ആയ കൊർന്നേല്യൊസ് എന്ന ശതാധിപന്നു നിന്നെ വീട്ടിൽ വരുത്തി നിന്റെ പ്രസംഗം കേൾക്കേണം എന്നു ഒരു വിശുദ്ധദൂതനാൽ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"Cornelius," they answered, "a captain, a devout man, and God- fearing, of whom the whole, Jewish nation speaks well, was instructed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house, and to listen to your message."
23 അവൻ അവരെ അകത്തു വിളിച്ചു പാർപ്പിച്ചു; പിറ്റെന്നാൾ എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവരോടുകൂടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; യോപ്പയിലെ സഹോദരന്മാർ ചിലരും അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി.
So he invited them in and gave them lodging. The next day he rose, and went off with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied them;
24 പിറ്റെന്നാൾ കൈസര്യയിൽ എത്തി; അവിടെ കൊർന്നേല്യൊസ് ചാർച്ചക്കാരെയും അടുത്ത സ്നേഹിതന്മാരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തി, അവർക്കായി കാത്തിരുന്നു.
and the day after that they reached Caesarea. There Cornelius was waiting for them, and had brought together all his relatives and intimate friends.
25 പത്രൊസ് അകത്തു കയറിയപ്പോൾ കൊർന്നേല്യൊസ് എതിരേറ്റു അവന്റെ കാല്ക്കുൽ വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.
When Peter entered the house Cornelius met him, fell at his feet, and worshiped him;
26 പത്രൊസോ: എഴുന്നേല്ക്കു, ഞാനും ഒരു മനുഷ്യനത്രെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ എഴുന്നേല്പിച്ചു,
but Peter lifted him up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man, myself."
27 അവനോടു സംഭാഷിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു അകത്തു ചെന്നു, അനേകർ വന്നു കൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു അവനോടു:
And as he talked with him, he went in and found a large company assembled.
28 അന്യജാതിക്കാരന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെല്ലുന്നതും അവനുമായി പെരുമാറ്റം ചെയ്യുന്നതും യെഹൂദന്നു നിഷിദ്ധം എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ. എങ്കിലും ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെയും മലിനനോ അശുദ്ധനോ എന്നു പറയരുതെന്നു ദൈവം എനിക്കു കാണിച്ചു തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.
To them he said. "You know, yourselves, that it is illegal for a Jew to associate with or to visit one of another nation; but God has taught me that I should not call any man common or unclean. For this reason, when sent for, I came without demur.
29 അതുകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു നിങ്ങൾ ആളയച്ചപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ എതിർ പറയാതെ വന്നതു; എന്നാൽ എന്നെ വിളിപ്പിച്ച സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞാൽ കൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"I ask therefore why you sent for me."
30 അതിന്നു കൊർന്നേല്യൊസ്: നാലാകുന്നാൾ ഈ നേരത്തു ഞാൻ വീട്ടിൽ ഒമ്പതാം മണിനേരത്തെ പ്രാർത്ഥന കഴിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ശുഭ്രവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചോരു പുരുഷൻ എന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ നിന്നു:
Cornelius answered. "Three days ago, at this very hour, I was praying in my house at three o’clock in the afternoon, when suddenly a man in a shining robe stood by me,
31 കൊർന്നേല്യൊസേ, ദൈവം നിന്റെ പ്രാർത്ഥന കേട്ടു നിന്റെ ധർമ്മം ഓർത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.
and said. "‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 യോപ്പയിലേക്കു ആളയച്ചു പത്രൊസ് എന്നു മറുപേരുള്ള ശിമോനെ വിളിപ്പിക്ക; അവൻ കടല്പുറത്തു തോൽക്കൊല്ലനായ ശീമോന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ പാർക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"‘So send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter. He is lodging with Simon the tanner, in a house by the seaside.’
33 ക്ഷണത്തിൽ ഞാൻ നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ആളയച്ചു; നീ വന്നതു ഉപകാരം. കർത്താവു നിന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും കേൾപ്പാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ എല്ലാവരും ഇവിടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
"So I sent for you without delay, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to listen to what the Lord has commanded you to speak."
34 അപ്പോൾ പത്രൊസ് വായി തുറന്നു പറഞ്ഞു തുടങ്ങിയതു: ദൈവത്തിന്നു മുഖപക്ഷമില്ല എന്നും
Then Peter began to speak. "Of a truth I begin to see quite plainly that God is no respecter of persons;
35 ഏതു ജാതിയിലും അവനെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു നീതി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവനെ അവൻ അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും ഞാൻ ഇപ്പോൾ യാഥാർത്ഥമായി ഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു.
"but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
36 അവൻ എല്ലാവരുടെയും കർത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുമൂലം സമാധാനം സുവിശേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേൽ മക്കൾക്കു അയച്ച വചനം,
"You cannot but know the message which he sent to the descendants of Israel, when he preached the gospel of peace by Jesus Christ who is Lord of all;
37 യോഹന്നാൻ പ്രസംഗിച്ച സ്നാനത്തിന്റെശേഷം ഗലീലയിൽ തുടങ്ങി യെഹൂദ്യയിൽ ഒക്കെയും ഉണ്ടായ വർത്തമാനം,
"you know the message spread throughout all Judea, beginning in Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38 നസറായനായ യേശുവിനെ ദൈവം പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനാലും ശക്തിയാലും അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തതും ദൈവം അവനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവൻ നന്മചെയ്തും പിശാചു ബാധിച്ചവരെ ഒക്കെയും സൗഖ്യമാക്കിയുംകൊണ്ടു സഞ്ചരിച്ചതുമായ വിവരം തന്നേ നിങ്ങൾ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ.
"how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how he went about everywhere doing good, and curing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him.
39 യെഹൂദ്യദേശത്തിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും അവൻ ചെയ്ത സകലത്തിനും ഞങ്ങൾ സാക്ഷികൾ ആകുന്നു. അവനെ അവർ മരത്തിന്മേൽ തൂക്കിക്കൊന്നു;
"And we were witnesses of all that he did, both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him, hanging him on a tree.
40 ദൈവം അവനെ മൂന്നാം നാൾ ഉയിർത്തെഴുന്നേല്പിച്ചു,
"But him God raised up on the third day, and permitted him to be made manifest,
41 സകല ജനത്തിന്നുമല്ല, ദൈവം മുമ്പുകൂട്ടി നിയമിച്ച സാക്ഷികളായി, അവൻ മരിച്ചവരിൽനിന്നു ഉയിർത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റശേഷം അവനോടുകൂടെ തിന്നുകുടിച്ചവരായ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു തന്നേ പ്രത്യക്ഷനാക്കിത്തന്നു.
"not to all the people, but to witnesses - men previously chosen by God - that is, to us, who ate and drank with him after he had risen from the dead;
42 ജീവികൾക്കും മരിച്ചവർക്കും ന്യായാധിപതിയായി ദൈവത്താൽ നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ അവൻ തന്നേ എന്നു ജനത്തോടു പ്രസംഗിച്ചു സാക്ഷീകരിപ്പാൻ അവൻ ഞങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചു.
"when he charged us to preach to the people, and to testify that this was he whom God ordained to be the judge of the living and of the dead.
43 അവനിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന ഏവന്നും അവന്റെ നാമം മൂലം പാപമോചനം ലഭിക്കും എന്നു സകല പ്രവാചകന്മാരും സാക്ഷ്യം പറയുന്നു.
"To him all the prophets bear witness, testifying that through his name every one that believes on him will receive remission of sins."
44 ഈ വാക്കുകളെ പത്രൊസ് പ്രസ്താവിക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നേ വചനം കേട്ട എല്ലാവരുടെ മേലും പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു വന്നു.
While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell on all who were listening to the message.
45 അവർ അന്യഭാഷകളിൽ സംസാരിക്കുന്നതും ദൈവത്തെ മഹത്വീകരിക്കുന്നതും കേൾക്കയാൽ
And all the Jewish believers who had accompanied Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the Gentiles also.
46 പത്രൊസിനോടുകൂടെ വന്ന പരിച്ഛേദനക്കാരായ വിശ്വാസികൾ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു എന്ന ദാനം ജാതികളുടെ മേലും പകർന്നതു കണ്ടു വിസ്മയിച്ചു.
For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
47 നമ്മെപ്പോലെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ലഭിച്ച ഇവരെ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചു കൂടാതവണ്ണം വെള്ളം വിലക്കുവാൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Then Peter said, "Can any one refuse water for the baptism of these men who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?"
48 പത്രൊസ് അവരെ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിപ്പാൻ കല്പിച്ചു. അവൻ ചില ദിവസം അവിടെ താമസിക്കേണം എന്നു അവർ അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they begged him to remain with them for a time.
