1 ശമൂവേൽ 1
1 എഫ്രയീം മലനാട്ടിലെ രാമാഥയീം-സോഫീമിൽ എല്ക്കാനാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു പുരുഷൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൻ എലീഹൂവിന്റെ മകനായ യെരോഹാമിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു; എലീഹൂ എഫ്രയീമ്യനായ സൂഫിന്റെ മകനായ തോഹൂവിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു.
There was a certain man from Ramah of Zophim, on Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 എല്ക്കാനെക്കു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തിക്കു ഹന്നാ എന്നും മറ്റേവൾക്കു പെനിന്നാ എന്നും പേർ; പെനിന്നെക്കു മക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഹന്നെക്കോ മക്കൾ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.
And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the second was Peninnah. And Peninnah had sons. But Hannah did not have children.
3 അവൻ ശീലോവിൽ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിപ്പാനും അവന്നു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും തന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു ആണ്ടുതോറും ശീലോവിലേക്കു പോക പതിവായിരുന്നു; ഏലിയുടെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായി യഹോവെക്കു പുരോഹിതന്മാരായിരുന്ന ഹൊഫ്നിയും ഫീനെഹാസും അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
And this man went up from his city, on the established days, so that he might adore and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts at Shiloh. Now the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of the Lord, were in that place.
4 എല്ക്കാനാ യാഗം കഴിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒക്കെയും തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ പെനിന്നെക്കും അവളുടെ സകലപുത്രന്മാർക്കും പുത്രിമാർക്കും ഓഹരി കൊടുക്കും.
Then the day arrived, and Elkanah immolated. And he gave portions to his wife Peninnah, and to all her sons and daughters.
5 ഹന്നെക്കോ അവൻ ഹന്നയെ സ്നേഹിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഇരട്ടി ഓഹരി കൊടുക്കും. എന്നാൽ യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗർഭം അടെച്ചിരിന്നു.
But to Hannah he gave one portion with sorrow. For he loved Hannah, but the Lord had closed her womb.
6 യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗർഭം അടെച്ചിരുന്നതിനാൽ അവളുടെ പ്രതിയോഗി അവളെ വ്യസനിപ്പിപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം വളരെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചു.
And her rival afflicted her and vehemently distressed her, to a great extent, for she rebuked her that the Lord had closed her womb.
7 അവൾ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന സമയത്തൊക്കെയും ആണ്ടുതോറും അവൾ അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തുപോന്നു. അവൾ അവളെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവൾ കരഞ്ഞു പട്ടിണികിടന്നു.
And she did so every year, when the time returned for them to ascend to the temple of the Lord. And she provoked her in this way. And so, she wept and did not take food.
8 അവളുടെ ഭർത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടു: ഹന്നേ, നീ എന്തിന്നു കരയുന്നു? എന്തിന്നു പട്ടിണികിടക്കുന്നു? നീ വ്യസനിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഞാൻ നിനക്കു പത്തു പുത്രന്മാരെക്കാൾ നന്നല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
Therefore, her husband Elkanah said to her: “Hannah, why are you weeping? And why do you not eat? And for what reason do you afflict your heart? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
9 അവർ ശീലോവിൽവെച്ചു തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തശേഷം ഹന്നാ എഴുന്നേറ്റു പോയി. പുരോഹിതനായ ഏലി യഹോവയുടെ മന്ദിരത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കൽ ആസനത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു.
And so, after she ate and drank at Shiloh, Hannah rose up. And Eli, the priest, was sitting on the seat before the door of the temple of the Lord.
10 അവൾ മനോവ്യസനത്തോടെ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു വളരെ കരഞ്ഞു.
And since Hannah was bitter in soul, she prayed to the Lord, weeping greatly.
11 അവൾ ഒരു നേർച്ച നേർന്നു; സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവേ, അടിയന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കി അടിയനെ ഓർക്കയും അടിയനെ മറക്കാതെ ഒരു പുരുഷസന്താനത്തെ നല്കുകയും ചെയ്താൽ അടിയൻ അവനെ അവന്റെ ജീവപര്യന്തം യഹോവെക്കു കൊടുക്കും; അവന്റെ തലയിൽ ക്ഷൗരക്കത്തി തൊടുകയുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And she made a vow, saying, “O Lord of hosts, if, in looking with favor, you will see the affliction of your servant and will remember me, and will not forget your handmaid, and if you will give to your servant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall pass over his head.”
12 ഇങ്ങനെ അവൾ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഏലി അവളുടെ വായെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കി.
Then it happened that, while she multiplied prayers before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth.
13 ഹന്നാ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ടു സംസാരിച്ചതിനാൽ അവളുടെ അധരം അനങ്ങിയതല്ലാതെ ശബ്ദം കേൾപ്പാനില്ലായിരുന്നു; ആകയാൽ അവൾക്കു ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഏലിക്കു തോന്നിപ്പോയി.
For Hannah was speaking in her heart, and only her lips moved, and her voice was barely heard. Therefore, Eli considered her to be drunk,
14 ഏലി അവളോടു: നീ എത്രത്തോളം ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരിക്കും? നിന്റെ വീഞ്ഞു ഇറങ്ങട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
and so he said to her: “How long will you be inebriated? You should take only a little wine, but instead you are drenched.”
15 അതിന്നു ഹന്നാ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതു: അങ്ങനെയല്ല, യജമാനനേ; ഞാൻ മനോവ്യസനമുള്ളൊരു സ്ത്രീ; ഞാൻ വീഞ്ഞോ മദ്യമോ കുടിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ എന്റെ ഹൃദയം പകരുകയത്രേ ചെയ്തതു.
Responding, Hannah said: “By no means, my lord. For I am an exceedingly unhappy woman, and I drank neither wine, nor anything that can inebriate. Instead, I have poured out my soul in the sight of the Lord.
16 അടിയനെ ഒരു നീചസ്ത്രീയായി വിചാരിക്കരുതേ; അടിയൻ സങ്കടത്തിന്റെയും വ്യസനത്തിന്റെയും ആധിക്യംകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു സംസാരിച്ചതു.
You should not repute your handmaid as one of the daughters of Belial. For I have been speaking from the abundance of my sorrow and grief, even until now.”
17 അതിന്നു ഏലി: സമാധാനത്തോടെ പൊയ്ക്കൊൾക; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തോടു നീ കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ അവൻ നിനക്കു നല്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
Then Eli said to her: “Go in peace. And may the God of Israel grant to you your petition, which you have begged of him.”
18 അടിയന്നു തൃക്കണ്ണിൽ കൃപ ലഭിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു സ്ത്രീ തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോയി ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു; അവളുടെ മുഖം പിന്നെ വാടിയതുമില്ല.
And she said, “I wish that your handmaid may find grace in your eyes.” And the woman went on her way, and she ate, and her countenance was no longer changed for the worse.
19 അനന്തരം അവർ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ നമസ്കരിച്ചശേഷം രാമയിൽ തങ്ങളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി. എന്നാൽ എല്ക്കാനാ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹന്നയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; യഹോവ അവളെ ഓർത്തു.
And they rose up in the morning, and they worshipped before the Lord. And they returned and arrived at their own house at Ramah. Then Elkanah knew his wife Hannah. And the Lord remembered her.
20 ഒരു ആണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ഹന്നാ ഗർഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ഞാൻ അവനെ യഹോവയോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുവാങ്ങി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ശമൂവേൽ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
And it happened that, in the course of days, Hannah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, because she had requested him from the Lord.
21 പിന്നെ എല്ക്കാനാ എന്ന പുരുഷനും അവന്റെ കുടുംബമൊക്കെയും യഹോവെക്കു വർഷാന്തരയാഗവും നേർച്ചയും കഴിപ്പാൻ പോയി.
Now her husband Elkanah ascended with his entire house, so that he might immolate to the Lord a solemn sacrifice, with his vow.
22 എന്നാൽ ഹന്നാ കൂടെപോയില്ല; അവൾ ഭർത്താവിനോടു: ശിശുവിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറട്ടെ; പിന്നെ അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ ചെന്നു അവിടെ എന്നു പാർക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാൻ അവനെയും കൊണ്ടുപോരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
But Hannah did not go up. For she said to her husband, “I will not go, until the infant has been weaned, and until I may lead him, so that he may appear before the sight of the Lord, and may remain always there.”
23 അവളുടെ ഭർത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടു: നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെയാകട്ടെ; അവന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറുംവരെ താമസിക്ക; യഹോവ തന്റെ വചനം നിവർത്തിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവൾ വീട്ടിൽ താമസിച്ചു മുലകുടി മാറുംവരെ മകന്നു മുലകൊടുത്തു.
And her husband Elkanah said to her: “Do what seems good to you, and stay until you wean him. And I pray that the Lord may fulfill his word.” Therefore, the woman remained at home, and she breastfed her son, until she withdrew him from milk.
24 അവന്നു മുലകുടി മാറിയശേഷം അവൾ മൂന്നു വയസ്സു പ്രായമുള്ള ഒരു കാളയും ഒരു പറമാവും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞുമായി അവനെ ശീലോവിൽ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു: ബാലനോ ചെറുപ്പമായിരുന്നു.
And after she had weaned him, she brought him with her, along with three calves, and three measures of flour, and a small bottle of wine, and she led him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh. But the boy was still a young child.
25 അവർ കാളയെ അറുത്തിട്ടു ബാലനെ ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.
And they immolated a calf, and they presented the boy to Eli.
26 അവൾ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: യജമാനനേ; യജമാനനാണ, യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഇവിടെ സമീപത്തു നിന്നിരുന്ന സ്ത്രീ ഞാൻ ആകുന്നു.
And Hannah said: “I beg you, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord: I am that woman, who stood before you here, praying to the Lord.
27 ഈ ബാലന്നായിട്ടു ഞാൻ പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു; ഞാൻ യഹോവയോടു കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ യഹോവ എനിക്കു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted to me my petition, which I asked of him.
28 അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ അവനെ യഹോവെക്കു നിവേദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവൻ ജീവപര്യന്തം യഹോവെക്കു നിവേദിതനായിരിക്കും. അവർ അവിടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.
Because of this, I have also lent him to the Lord, for all the days when he shall be lent to the Lord.” And they adored the Lord in that place. And Hannah prayed, and she said:
