1 Hoe ty nitsara’ Iehovà amy Mosè,
And the Lord said to Moses,
2 Añiraho ondaty hitingañe an-tane Kanàne añe, ie hatoloko amo ana’ Israeleo, songa amantoho ondaty raike o fifokoan-droae’eo, fonga mpamelek’ am’ iereo.
Send men to get knowledge about the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from every tribe of their fathers you are to send a man, every one a chief among them.
3 Aa le nampionjone’ i Mosè boak’ am-patrambei’ i Parane ao iereo ami’ ty nandilia’ Iehovà, songa mpiaolo’ o ana’ Israeleo indaty rey.
And Moses sent them from the waste land of Paran as the Lord gave orders, all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.
4 Aa le zao o tahina’ iareoo: tam-pifokoa’ i Reòbene, t’i Samoà ana’ i Zakore;
And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, the son of Zaccur.
5 tam-pifokoa’ i Simone t’i Safate ana’ i Horý;
Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, the son of Hori.
6 tam-pifokoa’ Iehodà t’i Kalebe ana’ Iefonè;
Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.
7 tam-pifokoa’ Isakhare t’Igale ana’ Iosefe;
Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, the son of Joseph.
8 tam-pifokoa’i Efraime t’i Hoseà ana’ i None;
Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea, the son of Nun.
9 tam-pifokoa’ i Beniamène t’i Paltý ana’i Rafò;
Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, the son of Raphu.
10 tam-pifokoa’ i Zebolone t’i Gadiele ana’i Sodý;
Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, the son of Sodi.
11 tam-pifokoa’ Iosefe, tam-pifokoa’ i Menasè: t’i Gadý ana’ i Sosý;
Of the tribe of Joseph, that is of the family of Manasseh, Gaddi, the son of Susi.
12 tam-pifokoa’ i Dane, t’i Amiele ana’ i Gemalý;
Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gemalli.
13 tam-pifokoa’ i Asere t’i Setore ana’ i Mikhaele;
Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, the son of Michael
14 tam-pifokoa’ i Naftalý t’i Nakhbý ana’ i Vofsý;
Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, the son of Vophsi.
15 tam-pifokoa’i Gade, t’i Geoele ana’ i Makhý;
Of the tribe of Gad, Gevel, the son of Machi.
16 Ie ro tahina’ ondaty nafanto’ i Mosè hitingañe i taneio, le novae’ i Mosè ty tahina’ i Hoseà ho Iehosòa.
These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to get knowledge about the land. And Moses gave to Hoshea, the son of Nun, the name of Joshua.
17 Aa le nirahe’ i Mosè iereo hitingañe an-tane Kanàne añe naho nafanto’e ty hoe: Mionjona mb’ amo Negeveo mb’eo vaho mañambonea mb’ am-bohibohitse añe,
So Moses sent them to have a look at the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up into the South and into the hill-country;
18 le isaho te inoñe i taney naho ondaty mimoneñe aoo ke maozatse ke maifoifo, he tsy ampeampe he maro;
And see what the land is like; and if the people living in it are strong or feeble, small or great in number;
19 le i tane imoneña’ iareoy, ke soa he raty; naho o rova itoboha’ iareoo ke t’ie tobe he arikoboñen-kijoly;
And what sort of land they are living in, if it is good or bad; and what their living-places are, tent-circles or walled towns;
20 le i taney ke kobokara he tsy mamokatse; ke mitiry hatae he tsie. Aa le mahasibeha vaho añandeso ty voka’ i taney. Toe san-doha-voam-balòboke henane zay.
And if the land is fertile or poor, and if there is wood in it or not. And be of good heart, and come back with some of the produce of the land. Now it was the time when the first grapes were ready.
21 Aa le nienga iereo nijoko boak’ am-patrambei’ i Tsine mb’e Rekhobe am-pimoaha’ i Hamate mb’eo.
So they went up and got a view of the land, from the waste land of Zin to Rehob, on the way to Hamath.
22 Le nionjoñe mañatimo naho nigodam-b’e Kebrone naho Akimane naho e Sesaý vaho e Talmaý, mb’amo ana’ i Anàkeo mb’eo. (Naoreñe fito taoñe taolo’ i Tsoane e Mitsraime añe ty Kebrone.)
They went up into the South and came to Hebron; and Ahiman and Sheshai and Talmai, the children of Anak, were living there. (Now the building of Hebron took place seven years before that of Zoan in Egypt.)
23 Le nivotrak’ am-bavatane’ Eskole eo iereo vaho nibira tsampam-baloboke rekets’ angaroza’e raike nampitarazoeñe ondaty roe am-baoñe, naho nangalak’ ampongabeindañitse vaho aviavy.
And they came to the valley of Eshcol, and cutting down a vine-branch with its grapes, two of them took it on a rod between them; and they took some pomegranates and figs.
24 Natao Vavatane’ i Eskole i taney amy angaroza nihitsife’ o ana’ Israeleoy.
That place was named the valley of Eshcol because of the grapes which the children of Israel took from there.
25 Ie efa-polo andro añe le nimpoly i nitampoñe i taney rey,
At the end of forty days they came back from viewing the land.
26 le niheo mb’amy Mosè naho i Aharone vaho i valobohò’ Israeley am-patram-bei’ i Parane e Kadese mb’eo ninday saontsy ama’e naho amy valobohò’ Israele iabiy, vaho naboa’ iereo ty voka’ i taney.
And they came back to Moses and Aaron and all the children of Israel, to Kadesh in the waste land of Paran; and gave an account to them and to all the people and let them see the produce of the land.
27 Le hoe ty natalili’ iareo ama’e, Nigodañe’ay i tane’ nañiraha’o anaiy. Toe iorikorihan-dronono naho tantele, hehe ty voka’e.
And they said, We came to the land where you sent us, and truly it is flowing with milk and honey: and here is some of the produce of it.
28 Fe misañatse ondaty mimoneñe amo taneo; le faheran-kijoly fatratse o rova’eo vaho jabajaba; mbore nioni’ay ao o ana’ i Anàkeo.
But the people living in the land are strong, and the towns are walled and very great; further, we saw the children of Anak there.
29 Mimoneñe an-tane atimo ao o nte-Amalekeo; le mimoneñe am-bohibohitse ao o nte-Kheteo naho o nte-Iebosèo vaho o nte-Amareo; le mimoneñe añ’ olo’ i riakey naho añ’ olo’ i saka Iardeney o nte-Kanàneo.
And the Amalekites are in the South; and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill-country; and the Canaanites by the sea and by the side of Jordan.
30 Nampianjiñe’ i Kalebe añatrefa’ i Mosè ondatio, nanao ty hoe: Antao hionjoñe mb’eo amy zao hitavañe i taney, tsy kalafo te mahagiok’ aze tika.
Then Caleb made signs to the people to keep quiet, and said to Moses, Let us go up straight away and take this land; for we are well able to overcome it.
31 Fe nanao ty hoe ondaty niharo-lia ama’eo: Tsy lefen-tika ty hionjoñe haname ondatio amy t’ie maozatse te aman-tika.
But the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.
32 Le naboele’ iereo ty talily nahatsonevotse o ana’ Israeleo amy tane nitingane’ iereoy, ami’ty hoe: I tane niranga’ay mpitingañey, le tane mampibotseke o mpimone’eo, vaho mijoalajoala ze hene ondaty niisa’ay ama’e.
And they gave the children of Israel a bad account of the land they had been to see, saying, This land through which we went is a land causing destruction to those living in it; and all the people we saw there are men of more than common size.
33 Nioni’ay ondaty joakeo (toe tarira’ ondaty joake o nte-Anàkeo); le nihoe valala am-pañentea’ay zahay vaho zahay am-pahaisaha’ iareo.
There we saw those great men, the sons of Anak, offspring of the Nephilim: and we seemed to ourselves no more than insects, and so we seemed to them.
