About that time, Cesar Augustus issued an edict, that all the inhabitants of the empire should be registered.

(This first register took effect, when Cyrenius was president of Syria.)
3 Aa le nañavelo hisokitse amy rova nihirifa’ey ze hene pato-razañe.
When all went to be registered, every one of his own city,
4 Niavotse ka t’Iosefe boake Galilia añe hirik’ an-drova Nazareta, le nimoake e Iehodà, an-drova’ i Davide atao Betleheme ao, amy t’ie tarira naho hasavereña’ i Davide,
Joseph also went from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, to a city of David in Judea, called Bethlehem, (for he was of the house and lineage of David, )
5 hisokitse; mindre ama’e t’i Marie valy fofo’e, ie fa bey troke.
to be registered, with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was pregnant.

While they were there, the time came, that she should be delivered.
7 le nahatoly ty lahilahy tañoloñoloña’e naho nifoloñose’e bandy vaho nampandre’e an-tsokemitrahañ’ ao, amy te tsy nahaeneñe i traño fanjoàn’ambahiniy.
And she brought forth her first born son, and swathed him, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the house allotted to strangers.
8 Teo amy tane zay ty mpiarake nañialo am-piandrazañ’añe, niarake o lia-rai’eo haleñe.
Now there were shepherds in the fields in that country, who tended their flocks by turns through the night watches.
9 Tojo te nijohañe añatrefa’ iereo eo ty anjeli’ Iehovà, naho niarisehoa’e ami’ ty fireandream-bolonahe’ Iehovà, le hene nirevendreveñe.
On a sudden, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and a divine glory encompassed them with light, and they were frightened exceedingly.
10 Aa le hoe i Anjeliy tam’iereo: Ko hembañe, Inao ty talili-soan-kafaleam-bey endeseko ama’areo, ho amy ze kila ondaty,
But the angel said to them, Fear not; for lo! I bring you good tidings, which shall prove matter of great joy to all the people;
11 t’ie nisamake ho anahareo anindroany androva’ i Davide ao ty Mpandrombake, i Talè Norizañey.
because to-day is born to you in the city of David, a Saviour, who is the Lord Messiah.
12 Le zao ty viloñe ho anahareo: ho zoe’ areo nifoloñoseñe bandi-leny ty ajajamena mandre an-tsokemitrahañ’ao.
And by this you shall know him; you shall find a babe in swaddling bands, lying in a manger.
13 Tsipaepae’ izay nisodehañe mindre amy anjeliy i lahialen-dikerañey, nandrenge an’Andrianañahare, nanao rodo-bey ty hoe:
Instantly the angel was attended by a multitude of the heavenly host, who praised God, saying,
14 Rengèñe t’i Andrianañahare andindimoneñe añe, naho fañanintsiñe am’ ondaty soa-satry an-tane atoio.
Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace, and good will amongst men!
15 Ie nienga mb’andindìñe mb’eo o anjelio le hoe ty nilahara’ o mpiarakeo: Antao ry kiahe mb’e Betleheme mb’eo hiisake i nitendrekey, i nampahafohine’ Iehovà an-tikañey.
And when the angels returned to heaven, having left the shepherds, these said to one another, Let us go to Bethlehem, and see this which has happened, of which the Lord has informed us.
16 Nirapirapy mb’eo iereo, le nahaoniñe i Marie naho Iosefe vaho i ajajamena mandre an-tsokemitrahañey.
And hastening thither, they found Mary and Joseph with the babe, who lay in the manger.

When they saw this, they published what had been imparted to them, concerning this child.

And all who heard it, wondered at the things told them by the shepherds.

But Mary let none of these things escape unobserved, weighing every circumstance within herself.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all that they had heard and seen, agreeably to what had been declared to them.
21 Ie nilomoñe ty valo andro le nisavàreñe i Ajajay, vaho nitoñoneñe ty hoe Iesoà ty añara’e, i tahinañe natolo’ i anjeliy taolo ty nampiareñañ’ aze an-koviñe aoy.
On the eighth day, when the child was circumcised, they called him Jesus, the angel having given him that name, before his mother conceived him.
22 Ie heneke o androm-pieferañe aze ty amy Ha’ i Mosèio, le nindese’ iareo mb’e Ierosaleme mb’eo, hatolotse amy Iehovà,
And when the time of their purification was expired, they carried him to Jerusalem, as the law of Moses appoints, to present him to the Lord;
23 amy te pinatetse amy Ha’ Iehovày ao ty hoe, Ze hene lahy tañoloñoloñan’ anake ro avaheñe ho amy Iehovà
(as it is written in the law of God, "Every male, who is the first born of his mother, is consecrated to the Lord:")
24 vaho t’ie hañenga soroñe ty amy pinatetse amy Ha’ Iehovàiy ty hoe: Deho roe ndra ana-boromahilala roe.
and to offer the sacrifices enjoined in the law, a pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.
25 Le teo ty androanavy nte Ierosaleme atao Simeona; vantañe naho mpitalaho. Nitamà ty fañohòañe Israele naho tama’e i Arofo Masiñey.
Now there was at Jerusalem a man named Simeon, a just and religious man, who expected the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him,
26 Nentoe’ i Arofo Masiñey t’ie tsy ho liàn-kavilasy ampara’ te isa’e i Noriza’ i Talèy.
and had revealed to him, that he should not dies, until he had seen the Lord's Messiah.
27 Nimoak’ añ’ Anjomban’ Añahare ao re añamy Arofoy. Aa ie nindesen-droae’e t’Iesoà anak’ ajaja, hanoeñe ama’e ty nafè’ i Hake,
This man came, guided by the Spirit, into the temple. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what the law required,

he took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Ry Iehovà, avotsoro hiavotse an-kazavàn’ arofo henaneo o mpitoro’oo ty amy saontsi’oy;
Now, Lord, thou dost in peace dismiss thy servant, according to thy word;
30 fa nahatrea ty fandrombaha’o o masokoo,
for my eyes have seen the Saviour,
31 i nihajarie’o añatrefa’ ze kila ondatiy,
whom thou hast provided in the sight of all the world,
32 Failo fañazavàñe amo fifeheañeo, naho ty enge’ Israele, ondati’oo.
a luminary to enlighten the nations, and to be the glory of Israel thy people.
33 Latsa amy zao ty rae’ i ajajay naho i rene’e amy nisaontsieñey;
And Joseph, and the mother of Jesus heard, with admiration, the things spoken concerning him.
34 le nitata iareo t’i Simeona, vaho hoe re amy Marie rene’ i ajajay: Ingo, fa norizañe ho fihotrahañe naho fionjonañe ty maro e Israele ao ty ana’o toy, vaho ho viloñe liereñe;
And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, This child is destined for the fall and the rise of many in Israel, to serve as a mark for contradiction;
35 (eka ho trofahem-pibara ka ty tro’o), hampibentatse ty vetsevetsen’ arofo’ ty maro.
(yes, you own soul shall be pierced as with a javelin; ) that the thoughts of many hearts may be disclosed.

There was also a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, in advanced age, who had lived seven years with a husband, whom she married when a virgin;
37 fa vantotse valompolo taoñe efats’ amby i rakembay le lia’e tsy nisitak’ amy anjomban’ Añaharey, fa nitoroñ’aze an-dilitse, nitalaho handro an-kaleñe.
and being now a widow about eighty-four years, departed not from the temple, but served God in prayer and fasting night and day;

she also coming in at that instant, gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke concerning Jesus to all those in Jerusalem who expected redemption.
39 Ie nihenefe’iereo ze nafè’ ty Ha’ Iehovà, le nimpoly mb’e Galilia mb’e Nazareta tanà’ iareo añe.
After they had performed everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40 Nitombo i Ajajay, nihaozatse naho niliforen-kihitse vaho ama’e ty falalàn’ Añahare.
And the child grew, and acquired strength of mind, being filled with wisdom, and adorned with a divine gracefulness.
41 Nomb’e Ierosaleme boa-taoñe o roae’eo amy sabadidam-Pihelañey.
Now, the parents of Jesus went yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.
42 Aa ie ni-folo taoñe ro’ amby t’Iesoà le nionjomb’e Ierosaleme mb’eo iereo ami’ty lili’ i sandalam-beiy.
And when he was twelve years old, they having gone thither, according to the usage of the festival, and remained the customary time;
43 Naho niheneke i andro rezay le nimpoly iereo; fe mbe nitambatse e Ierosaleme ao t’Iesoà anak’ajalahy, le tsy nifohi’ Iosefe naho i rene’e;
being on their return, the child Jesus staid behind in Jerusalem, and neither Joseph nor his mother knew it.
44 natao’ iereo t’ie nindre lia amo mpitrao-liao le nañavelo andro raike hey vaho nipay aze amo longo’eo naho am’ondaty fohiñeo.
They supposing him to be in the company, went a day's journey, and then sought him among their relations and acquaintances;
45 Ie tsy nioni’ iereo le nibalike mb’e Ierosaleme mb’eo nipay aze.
but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 Aa toe nitongoa’ ty herone t’ie tendrek’ añ’ Anjomban’Añahare ao nitoboke añivo’ o mpañokeo, nijanjiñe naho nañontane iareo.
And after three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 Daban-draha iaby ze nahajanjiñe aze ami’ty hilala’e naho amo fanoiña’eo.
And all who heard him, were amazed at his understanding and answers,
48 Ie nioni’ iereo le nivaranehake, fe hoe ty nanoan-drene’e: O Anake, akore ty nanoa’o zao? Hehe te nioremèn-jahay naho i rae’o nipay Azo!
and they beheld him with astonishment. And his mother said to him, Son, why have you treated us thus? Behold, your father and I have sought you with sorrow.
49 Tinoi’e ty hoe, Akore t’ie nitsoek’ ahy? Tsy fohi’ areo hao t’ie tsi-mahay tsy hitoloñe an-dRaeko?
He answered, Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be in the courts of my Father?
50 Fe nañalike iereo i entañe tinaro’ey.
But they did not comprehend his answer.
51 F’ie nindreza’e fimpoly mb’e Nazareta mb’eo vaho niasia’e. Fonga nifaharan-drene’e añ’ arofo’e ao i saontsy zay.
And he returned with them to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her memory.
52 Nitombo an-tsandriñe naho hilala t’Iesoà vaho nisohen’ Añahare naho ondatio.
And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and stature, and in power with God and man.
