1 Añe izay le nañavelo e Galilia ao t’Iesoà, f’ie tsy te homb’e Iehodà mb’eo amy te nipay hañè-doza ama’e o Tehodao.
After this, Jesus went about in Galilee, for he would not do so in Judea, because the Jews were eager to put him to death.
2 Nitotoke henane zay i sabadida-kivoho’ o Jiosioy,
When the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near,
3 le hoe ty asa’ o rahalahi’eo ama’e: Isitaho ty eto, akia mb’e Iehodà añe, hahaoniña’ o mpiama’oo ka o fitoloñañe anoe’oo,
his brothers said to him: “Leave this part of the country, and go into Judea, so that your disciples, as well as we, may see the work that you are doing.
4 amy te tsy mitoloñ’ añetake ze te ho fohiñe, fa am-palangesañe. Kanao manao o raha rezao irehe, le atrefo i valobohòkey.
For no one does a thing privately, if he is seeking to be widely known. Since you do these things, you should show yourself publicly to the world.”
5 Toe tsy niantok’ aze ka o rahalahi’eo.
For even his brothers did not believe in him.
6 Le hoe t’Iesoà am’ iareo: Mbe tsy tondroke ty androko, fe songa mete ama’ areo ze andro.
“My time,” answered Jesus, “is not come yet, but your time is always here.
7 Tsy eo ty halaiña’ ty voatse toy anahareo fa heje’e ka iraho mpanesek’ aze ty amy hatsivokara’ey.
The world cannot hate you, but it does hate me, because I testify that its ways are evil.
8 Mionjona mb’amy sabadidakey mb’eo, fe tsy homb’ amy famantañañey hey iraho amy te mbe tsy heneke o androkoo.
Go yourselves up to the Festival; I am not going to this Festival yet, because my time has not yet come.”
9 Ie nanoa’e izay le nitambatse e Galilia ao.
After telling them this, he stayed on in Galilee.
10 Aa naho fa nionjom-ban-tsabadidake mb’eo o rahalahi’eo, le nimb’eo ka re, fe tsy nisorogodañe fa niampitsàmpitse.
But, when his brothers had gone up to the Festival, Jesus also went up — not publicly, but privately.
11 Nipay aze amy sabadidakey o Jiosio, ie nifanao ty hoe: Aia re?
The Jews were looking for him at the Festival and asking ‘Where is he?’;
12 Lako firehoreho ty ama’e i màroy: hoe ty ila’e: Vañoñe indatiy, hoe ka ty ila’e: Aiy! toe ampandridrihe’e ty màro.
and there were many whispers about him among the people, some saying ‘He is a good man;’ others: ‘No! he is leading the people astray.’
13 Fe tsy teo ty nahaboa-drehake aze ami’ty fihembañañe o Tehodao.
No one, however, spoke freely about him, for fear of the Jews.
14 Ie ho nivaky mira i sabadidakey, le nionjomb’ añ’ anjomban’ Añahare mb’eo t’Iesoà, nañoke.
About the middle of the Festival week, Jesus went up into the Temple Courts, and began teaching.
15 Nilatsà’ o Tehodao le nanao ty hoe: Taia ty nampahilala indatiy o soki­tseo, ie tsy nianatse?
The Jews were astonished. “How has this man got his learning,” they asked, “when he has never studied?”
16 Tinoi’ Iesoà ty hoe: Tsy ahy o fañòhakoo, fa a i nañitrik’ ahiy.
So, in reply, Jesus said: “My teaching is not my own; it is his who sent me.
17 Ie no’ ondatio ty hanao o satri’eo le ho rendre’e i fañòhañey ke hirik’ aman’ Añahare, he te ahy o volañekoo.
If any one has the will to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching is from God, or whether I speak on my own authority.
18 Mipay tsiriry ty mivolañe ty aze; f’ie mipay hañomey engeñe amy nañitrik’ azey ro to vaho tsy aman-kakeo.
The man who speaks on his own authority seeks honour for himself; but the man who seeks the honour of him that sent him is sincere, and there is nothing false in him.
19 Tsy i Mosè hao ty nanolotse i Hake ama’ areo, fe tsy ama’areo ty mañorike i Hake? Akore t’ie mipay hampivetrak’ ahy?
Was not it Moses who gave you the Law? Yet not one of you obeys it! Why are you seeking to put me to death?”
20 Hoe ty natoi’ i màroy: Amañ’ anga-draty irehe, ia ze o mipay hañoho-doza ama’oo?
“You must be possessed by a demon!” the people exclaimed. “Who is seeking to put you to death?”
21 Hoe t’Iesoà tam’ iereo: Nanao raha raike iraho, le hene latsa.
“There was one thing I did,” replied Jesus, “at which you are all still wondering.
22 Nimea’ i Mosè anahareo o sava­tseo (tsy t’ie hirik’ amy Mosè, fa boak’ aman-droae); vaho manavatse ondaty ami’ty Sabotse nahareo.
“Is he going to kill himself,” the Jews exclaimed, “that he says — ‘You cannot go where I am going’?”
23 Aa naho savareñe ami’ty Sabata t’indaty tsy handilara’e ty Hà’ i Mosè; mahaviñetse anahareo hao te nampijangañeko fonitse ami’ty Sabata t’indaty?
When a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath to prevent the Law of Moses from being broken, how can you be angry with me for making a man sound and well on a Sabbath?
24 Ko mizaka ami’ty vinta’e, fa mizakà an-jaka tò.
Do not judge by appearances; judge justly.”
25 Le hoe ty ila’ o nte Ierosalemeo: Tsy itoy hao i paia’ iereo ho vonoeñey?
At this some of the people of Jerusalem exclaimed: “Is not this the man that they are seeking to put to death?
26 Hehe t’ie milañoñe am-batraike eo fe tsy ivolaña’ iareo. Hera toe fohi’ o roandriañeo te ie ro toe i Norizañey?
Yet here he is, speaking out boldly, and they say nothing to him! Is it possible that our leading men have really discovered that he is the Christ?
27 Fohintika ty nihirifa’ indatiy; aa ie avy i Norizañey, tsy ho fohi’ ondaty ty niboaha’e.
Yet we know where this man is from; but, when the Christ comes, no one will be able to tell where he is from.”
28 Aa le nipoña-peo añ’anjomban’ Añahare ao t’Iesoà te nañoke, nanao ty hoe: Eka! Fohi’ areo iraho mbore rendre’ areo ty nihirifako; Tsy nañira-batan-dRaho, fe vañoñe i nañitrik’ Ahiy, i amoea’ areoy.
Therefore, Jesus, as he was teaching in the Temple Courts, raised his voice and said: “Yes; you know me and you know where I am from. Yet I have not come on my own authority, but he who sent me may be trusted; and him you do not know.
29 F’ie fantako, amy te hirik’ ama’e, ie ty nañirak’ ahy.
I do know him, for it is from him that I have come, and he sent me as his Messenger.”
30 Nipay hitsepak’ aze iereo, fe tsy teo ty hahagaoñ’ aze ie mbe tsy nitondroke i ora’ey.
So they sought to arrest him; but no one touched him, for his time was not come yet.
31 Le maro am’ ondatio ty niantok’ aze vaho nanao ty hoe: Ie totsake eo i Norizañey, hanao viloñe maro te amo nanoe’ itìañeo hao?
Many of the people, however, believed in him. “When the Christ comes,” they said, “will he give more signs of his mission than this man has given?”
32 Jinanji’ o Fariseoo i nivesovesoe’ i màroy, le nañitrike mpifeleke hitsepak’ aze o mpisorom-beio naho o Fariseoo.
The Pharisees heard the people whispering about him in this way, and so the Chief Priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him;
33 Le hoe ty nanoa’ Iesoà: Anianike avao iraho te ama’areo vaho hienga mb’amy nañirak’ ahiy añe.
on which Jesus said: “I shall be with you but a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me.
34 Hipay ahy nahareo fe tsy hahaisake; toe tsy mete’ areo hombàñe ty hombako.
You will look for me, and you will not find me; and you will not be able to come where I shall be.”
35 Le hoe ty fifanaontsi’ o Tehodao: Aia ty homba’e te tsy ho trea-tika? Hera homb’ amo miparaitak’ amo Grika añeoo, hañòke o Grikao;
“Where is this man going,” the Jews asked one another, “that we shall not find him? Will he go to our countrymen abroad, and teach foreigners?
36 Inoñe i enta’e ty hoe: Ho paiae’ areo iraho, fa tsy ho isa’ areo; naho, Tsy lefe areo ombañe ty hombako?
What does he mean by saying ‘You will look for me, and you will not find me; and you will not be able to come where I shall be’?”
37 Ie amy andro honka ra’elahi’ i sabadidakeiy, le niongake t’Iesoà nipazake ty hoe: Ampomb’ amako mb’etoa hikama rano ze taliñiereñe. Ze miato amako,
On the last and greatest day of the Festival, Jesus, who was standing by, exclaimed: “If any one thirsts, let him come to me, and drink.
38 hoe i Tsara Masiñey, le higoangoañe boak’ añ’arofo’e ao ty rano veloñe.
I tell you what I have myself seen in the presence of my Father; and you, in the same way, do what you have learned from your father.”
39 (i Arofo ho rambese’ o mpiato ama’eo i nitsarae’e zay, fe mboe tsy ie i Arofoy, amy te mbe tsy nirengèñe t’Iesoà.)
(By this he meant the Spirit, which those who had believed in him were to receive; for the Spirit had not yet come, because Jesus had not yet been exalted.)
40 Aa le maro amy lahialeñe nahajanjiñe i tsaray ro nanao ty hoe: Toe ie i Mpitokiy.
But, as it is, you are seeking to put me to death — a man who has told you the Truth as he heard it from God. Abraham did not act in that way.
41 Hoe ty ila’e: Ie i Norizañey, fa hoe ka ty ila’e: Ho hirike e Galilia añe hao i Norizañey?
You are doing what your own father does.” “We are not bastards,” they said, “we have one Father — God himself.”
42 Tsy fa tsinara’ o Sokitse Masiñeo hao te ho hirik’ amo tiri’ i Davideo i Norizañey, naho ho boake Betleheme, rova’ i Davide?
Is not it said in Scripture that it is of the race of David, and from Bethlehem, the village to which David belonged, that the Christ is to come?”
43 Aa le nifampiria ty ama’e ondatio.
So there was a sharp division among the people on account of Jesus.
44 Teo o te hitsepak’ azeo, f’ie tsy nipaoham-pitañe.
Some of them wanted to arrest him, and yet no one touched him.
45 Aa le nibalike mb’amo mpisorom-bey naho Fariseoo mb’eo o mpifelekeo, le hoe ty nanoa’ o beio: Akore t’ie tsy nasese’areo?
When the officers returned to the Chief Priests and Pharisees, they were asked: “Why have you not brought him?”
46 Le hoe ty natoi’ o mpifelekeo: Mbe lia’e tsy nahafilañoñe manahak’ indatiy t’indaty.
“No man ever spoke as he speaks!” they answered.
47 Le natoi’ o Fariseoo ty hoe: I nahareo ka hao ty nampandridrihe’e?
“What! Have you been led astray too?” the Pharisees replied.
48 Ia amo roandriañeo naho amo Fariseoo ty miantok’ aze?
“Have any of our leading men believed in him, or any of the Pharisees?
49 Fokom-pàtse i màroy, amy te tsy apota’e t’i Hake.
As for these people who do not know the Law — they are cursed!
50 Hoe t’i nanoa’ i Nikodemosy (i mpiam’ iareo nitilike Iesoà taoloy).
But one of their number, Nicodemus, who before this had been to see Jesus, said to them:
51 Mamàtse ondaty aolo’ te ijanjiñañe hahafohiñe i nanoe’ey hao i Han-tikañey?
“Does our Law pass judgment on a man without first giving him a hearing, and finding out what he has been doing?”
52 Natoi’ iereo ty hoe: Nte-Galilia ka v-iheo? Hotsohotsò naho oniño te tsy itroaram-pitoky ty Galilia.
“Are you also from Galilee?” they retorted. “Search, and you will find that no Prophet is to arise in Galilee!”
53 Le hene nimpoly mb’an-kiboho’e mb’eo.
And every one went home
