1 O ry longo, ee te tsy maro ty ho mpañoke; fohiñe te ho lombolombo’e ty fizakañe antika.
Do not become many teachers, my brothers, because you know well that we teachers shall be judged by a severer standard than others.
2 Songa mitsikapy ami’ty sata maro tika. Aa naho tsy fingane’ i saontsi’ey t’indaty le vañoñe indatiy mahafehe ty vata’e iaby.
For in many respects we often stumble. If any man never stumbles in speech, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.
3 Ie aomben-tika añ’oron-tsoavala ty laboridy hañoriha’e antika, le mahafeleke ty vata’e iaby.
When we put bits in the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we control their whole body also.
4 Oniño ka o samboo. Ndra t’ie jabajaba naho aronjen-tio-bey, ro tehafem-panehake kede mb’amy ze satri’ i mpinday azey hombañe.
Look at the ships too, though they are so large, even when driven by fierce winds they are turned by a very small rudder, wherever the impulse of the helmsman wills.
5 Manao izay i famelekey, ie kedekedeke amo an-tsandriñeo, fe raha ra’elahy ty iroharohà’e. Haraharao ty habei’ ty ala viàñe’ ty pitsik’ afo.
So also the tongue is a small member and makes great boasts. Behold, how great a forest is set on fire by a little spark!
6 Afo i famelekey, haliforan-katserehañe; napok’ amo haraon-tikañ’ ao i famelekey f’ie mahativa i sandriñey iaby, naho mamiañ’ afo an-dalam-pañaveloan-tika, toe ampiforehete’ i tsikeokeokey. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire; it is a very world of iniquity among our members, defiling the whole body, and setting on fire the wheel of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Hene mete folahe’ ondatio naho toe fa nifolahe’e ze karazam-biby naho voroñe naho mpilaly vaho o bibin-driakeo,
For while every kind of beast and bird, and of reptiles and sea- creatures are tamable, and actually have been tamed by mankind,
8 fe tsy lefe’ ondaty folaheñe i famelekey. Ie haratiañe mitsingoetse, lifo-boreke mahafate.
no man can tame the tongue, restless evil that it is, full of deadly poison.
9 Ie ty andrengean-tika i Talè Raentikañey, ie ka ty añonjiran-tika t’indaty namboareñe hambam-bintañe aman’ Añahare.
With it we continually bless our Lord and Father, and with it we are accustomed to curse men made in the image of God.
10 Songa am-palie raike ty iakaran-tata naho fàtse. O ry longo, sondo’e t’ie anoeñe!
From out of the same mouth pour forth blessings and cursings! My brothers, this ought not to be so.
11 Ampikararahe’ ty loharano hirik’ am-bava raike hao ty mamy naho ty mafaitse?
Does a spring pour forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter?
12 O ry longo, mete mamoa takoko hao ty sakoañe? ndra sakoañe ty vahe? Toe tsy vokaren-drano masiake ty mamy.
Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives; or a grape-vine, figs? No more can salt water yield fresh water.
13 He ama’ areo ao ty mahihitse naho mahilala? Ee te ho vente’e amy hava­ñona’ey, t’ie mitoloñe an-katretran-troke mahihitse.
Who among you is wise and intelligent? Let him show his deeds by his good life, in the meekness of wisdom.
14 Fe naho añaja’o fikirañañe mafaitse aman-katea-teña ty an-tro’o ao, le ko mibohaboha handañira’o ty hatò.
But if you have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, do not be boasting of that, and be false to the truth.
15 Toe tsy hirik’ añ’abo i hihitse zay, f’ie an-tane, an-kasijin-tsandriñe naho itokoan-angatse.
Such wisdom is not that which is descending from on high, but is earthly, sensual, demonlike.
16 Aa naho eo ty fitsikirihañe naho fifandierañe, le eo ka ty fivalita­boahañe naho ze fonga atao sata raty.
For wherever jealousy and faction exist, there is confusion and every evil deed.
17 Hiringiri’e hey ty hihitse boak’ andin­dìñe ao, ie mifampilongo, lem-pò, mete mivohotse, lifo-tretrè naho voka-tsoa, tsy mitroetroe vaho po-famañahiañe.
But the wisdom which comes from on high is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, conciliatory, overflowing with mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without insincerity.
18 Tongisam-pampilongo am-panintsiñañe ty tabiry mamoa havantañañe.
And the fruit of righteousness is being sown in peace by those who are working peace.
