1 Nanonjohy i lia’ey t’Iakòbe le nifanalaka ama’e o anjelin’ Añahareo;
Nowe Iaakob went forth on his iourney and the Angels of God met him.
2 aa ie niisa’ Iakòbe le nanao ty hoe, Toben’Añahare itoy, le natao’e ty hoe Makanaime i toetse zay.
And when Iaakob saw them, he said, This is Gods hoste, and called the name of the same place Mahanaim.
3 Nirahe’ Iakòbe ty hiaolo aze mb’ amy Esave rahalahi’e mb’an-tane Seira, tane’ i Edome añe,
Then Iaakob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, vnto the land of Seir into the countrey of Edom:
4 le nafanto’e ami’ty hoe, Endeso mb’amy talèko Esave añe o entañe zao, Hoe ty enta’ Iakòbe mpitoro’o, Nañialo amy Labàne ao iraho, le nitambatse añe ampara’ henane;
To whom he gaue commandement, saying, Thus shall ye speake to my lorde Esau: thy seruant Iaakob sayeth thus, I haue bene a stranger with Laban, and taried vnto this time.
5 Amañ’ añombe naho borìke, mpirai-lia naho ondevo ampela naho lahy; le nampihitrifeko mb’ amy talèkoy mb’eo ty saontsy hahatreavako fañisohañe am-pahaisaha’o.
I haue beeues also and Asses, sheepe, and men seruantes, and women seruantes, and haue sent to shew my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
6 Nibalike mb’am’Iakòbe i ìrake rey nitalily ty hoe, Nivotrak’ amy Esave rahalahi’o zahay, le mb’etoan-dre hifanalaka ama’o rekets’ondaty efa-jato.
So ye messengers came againe to Iaakob, saying, We came vnto thy brother Esau, and hee also commeth against thee and foure hundreth men with him.
7 Nirevendreveñe naho nangebahebak’ amy zao t’Iakòbe; le zinara’e ho lia roe ze hene ondaty ama’eo naho o mpirai-liao naho o mpirai-trokeo vaho o ramevao
Then Iaakob was greatly afraid, and was sore troubled, and deuided the people that was with him, and the sheepe, and the beeues, and the camels into two companies.
8 fa hoe re, Aa naho pok’ami’ty lia-raike t’i Esave vaho horidañe’e, le hifiora’ i sehanga’ey.
For he said, If Esau come to ye one company and smite it, the other companie shall escape.
9 Le hoe t’Iakòbe, O ry Andrianañahare’ i Avrahame raeko naho Andrianañahare’ Ietsàke raeko, ry Iehovà nanao tamako ty hoe, Mimpolia mb’ an-tane’o mb’amo longo’oo mb’eo vaho hanoako soa.
Moreouer Iaakob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Izhak: Lord, which saydest vnto me, Returne vnto thy coutrey and to thy kinred, and I will do thee good,

I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and al the trueth, which thou hast shewed vnto thy seruant: for with my staffe came I ouer this Iorden, and now haue I gotte two bads.

I pray thee, Deliuer me from the hande of my brother, from the hande of Esau: for I feare him, least he will come and smite me, and the mother vpon the children.
12 Ihe fa nitsara ty hoe, Toe hañasoa azo iraho, vaho hampiraeko amo fasen-driakeo o tarira’oo, ze tsy mete iaheñe ty amo fifamorohota’eo.
For thou saydest; I will surely doe thee good, and make thy seede as the sande of the sea, which can not be nombred for multitude.
13 Aa le nitobe eo re amy haleñey, vaho nilivae’e amo raha rinambem-pità’eo ty ho ravoravo amy Esave zoke’e:
And he taryed there the same night, and tooke of that which came to had, a present for Esau his brother:
14 ose-vave roanjato, naho oselahy roa-polo, añondri-vave roanjato naho añondri-lahy roapolo,
Two hundreth shee goates and twenty hee goates, two hundreth ewes and twentie rammes:
15 rameva minono rekets’ ana’e telopolo, añombe-vave efapolo, añombe-lahy folo, borìke vave roapolo, vaho ana-borìke folo.
Thirtie mylche camels with their coltes, fourtie kine, and ten bullockes, twentie she asses and ten foles.
16 Natolo’e an-taña’ o mpitoro’eo irezay, sindre lia’e, vaho hoe re amo mpitoro’eo, Iaolò Iraho naho adaradiso ami’ty lia-raike ty lia-raike.
So he deliuered them into the hande of his seruants, euery droue by themselues, and saide vnto his seruants, Passe before me, and put a space betweene droue and droue.
17 Le hoe re amy aoloy, Ie mifanampe ama’o t’i Esave zokeko, manao ty hoe, Ama’ia irehe? Homb’aia v’iheo? vaho ho ama’ ia o aolo’oo?
And he commanded the formost, saying, If Esau my brother meete thee, and aske thee, saying, Whose seruant art thou? And whither goest thou? And whose are these before thee?
18 le hoe ty hatoi’o: A i Iakòbe mpitoro’oy, ravoravo nampisangitrife’e amy Esave talekoy; Indroy ie! manonjohy anay.
Then thou shalt say, They be thy seruant Iaakobs: it is a present sent vnto my lord Esau: and beholde, he him selfe also is behinde vs.
19 Izay ty nafanto’e amy faharoey naho amy fahateloy, vaho amo nanonjohy i mpirai-lia rey iabio, ami’ty hoe: Ty hoe zao ty ho saontsie’ areo amy Esave te mizo aze
So likewise commanded he the seconde and the thirde, and all that followed the droues, saying, After this maner, ye shall speake vnto Esau, when ye finde him.
20 le tovoño ty hoe, Ingo, manonjohy anay t’Iakòbe mpitoro’o; ty amy asa’e ty hoe, Hampanintsiñeko amo ravoravo miaolo ahio ty haviñera’e; ie añe le ho treako ty lahara’e, ke ho no’e.
And ye shall say moreouer, Beholde, thy seruant Iaakob commeth after vs (for he thought, I will appease his wrath with the present that goeth before me, and afterwarde I will see his face: it may be that he will accept me.)
21 Aa le nitsake aolo’ aze i banabana’ey, ie nialeñe an-kialo atoy.
So went the present before him: but he taried that night with the companie.
22 Nitroatse amy haleñey re, ninday i vali’e roe rey naho i mpitoro’e roe rey, vaho i ana-dahy folo-raik’ amby rey nitsake ami’ty fitsaha’ Iabòke.
And he rose vp the same night, and tooke his two wiues, and his two maides, and his eleuen children, and went ouer the forde Iabbok.
23 Nasese’e mb’eo naho nampitsahe’e i torahañey vaho nampitsahe’e ze tama’e.
And he tooke them, and sent them ouer the riuer, and sent ouer that he had.
24 Aa le nidoke ho vahiny t’Iakòbe vaho nigarabiñe ama’e ty lahilahy ampara’ te niporea’ ty maraindray.
Now when Iaakob was left him selfe alone, there wrestled a man with him vnto the breaking of the day.
25 Ie nioni’e te tsy hahagiok’ aze, le pinao’e ty fikatsoha’ ty moja’e, vaho nikatsoke ty moja’ Iakòbe amy fifandrapaha’ey.
And he sawe that he could not preuaile against him: therefore he touched the holowe of his thigh, and the holowe of Iaakobs thigh was loosed, as he wrestled with him.
26 Le hoe re, Avotsoro fa hanjirike i àndroy. Fe hoe re, Tsy havotsoko naho tsy itata’o hey.
And he saide, Let me goe, for the morning appeareth. Who answered, I will not let thee go except thou blesse me.
27 Aa le nanoa’e ty hoe, Ia ty añara’o? Iakòbe, hoe re.
Then said he vnto him, What is thy name? And he said, Iaakob.
28 Le hoe re, Tsy hatao Iakòbe ka ty tahina’o, fa Israele, amy t’ie nifanehak’ aman’ Andrianañahare naho am’ondatio vaho nahatañe.
Then said he, Thy name shalbe called Iaakob no more, but Israel: because thou hast had power with God, thou shalt also preuaile with men.
29 Hoe ty nañontanea’ Iakòbe, Ehe, itsarao ty tahina’o. Fa hoe re, Ino ty añontanea’o ty añarako? Le nitata’e eo.
Then Iaakob demaded, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore now doest thou aske my name? and he blessed him there
30 Aa le natao’ Iakòbe ty hoe Penoele i toetsey, ami’ty hoe, Nifañatre-daharañe aman’ Añahare iraho, fe narova’e ty fiaiko.
And Iaakob called the name of the place, Peniel: for, saide he, I haue seene God face to face, and my life is preserued.
31 Nanjirike i àndroy t’ie nitsake e Penoele ty amy moja’ey.
And the sunne rose vp to him as he passed Peniel, and he halted vpon his thigh.
32 Aa le tsy fikamà’ o nte-Israeleo pake henane ty oza’ i moja mipitek’ am-pikatsohañey, amy te nipaohe’e ty oza’ i fikatsoha’ i moja’ Iakòbey ami’ty lahin-oza’ i tohakeiy.
Therefore the children of Israel eate not of the sinewe that shranke in the hollowe of the thigh, vnto this day: because he touched the sinew that shranke in the holow of Iaakobs thigh.
