THE former treatise, Theophilus, I composed, concerning all things which Jesus began both to do and to teach,
2 pak’ amy andro nampionjonañe azey, ie fa nanoro o Firàheñe ji­nobo’e añamy Arofo Masiñeio.
until that day, when having given a charge to his apostles through the Holy Ghost, whom he had chosen, he was taken up:
3 Aa naho niheneke i halovilovia’ey le niboak’ am’ iereo naho niventè’e an-tsata maro, hampatokisañe iareo t’ie veloñe, vaho niisa’ iareo efa-polo andro, le nita­roña’e i Fifehean’ Añaharey.
to whom also he had shewed himself alive, after he had suffered, by many infallible proofs, during forty days being frequently seen by them, and speaking of the things which relate to the kingdom of God:
4 Aa ie nifañaoñe le nafanto’e te tsy hiakats’ Ierosaleme fa han­diñe i nampitaman-dRaey: i Jinanji’ areo amakoy.
and assembling them together, commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye have heard from me.
5 Nampilipotse an-drano t’i Jaona, fe halipotse amy Arofo Masiñey nahareo te heron-kerone.
For John indeed baptised with water; but ye shall be baptised with the Holy Ghost not many days after the present.
6 Aa ie nifanontoñe le nañontanea’ iareo ty hoe: O Rañandria, Hampolie’o am’ Israele henaneo hao i fifeheañey?
They then accordingly assembling together, asked him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time reestablish the kingdom of Israel?
7 Hoe re tam’ iereo: Tsy anahareo ty hahafohiñe ty andro ndra o sa nalaha n-dRae amy fandilia’eio,
But he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times and the seasons, which the Father hath reserved under his own authority.
8 fe handrambe haozarañe nahareo te ivotraha’ i Arofo Masiñey; ho mpitalily ahy e Ierosaleme naho e Iehodà iaby naho e Samaria ao vaho pak’ antsietoitane añe.
But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses for me, both in Jerusalem, and throughout all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the extremity of the earth.
9 Ie nitsarae’e le nonjoneñe vaho rinambe’ ty rahoñe tsy ho am-pahaisaha’ iareo.
And as he was speaking these things, while they were looking upon him, he was taken up; and a cloud enveloping him hid him from their eyes.
10 Ie mbe nitalake mb’an­dikerañe eñe mb’amy nionjona’ey, hehe te nijohañe añila’ iereo t’indaty roe nisarom-poty
And as they looked up earnestly into the heaven, while he was passing, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 nanao ty hoe, Ry nte-Galilia, akore t’ie miandrandra mb’ andindìñe ey? Iesoà nirambeseñe boak’ ama’ areo mb’andindimb’eoy ro hibalike manahake i nahaisaha’ areo aze nionjoñe mb’andikerañe eñey.
who also said to them, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this Jesus, who hath been taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, in the same manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12 Aa le nibalike mb’e Ierosaleme mb’eo iereo, boak’ami’ty vohitse atao Oliva, mañeva fañaveloan-tSabotse boake Ierosaleme.
Then they returned unto Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, about a sabbath-day’s journey distant.
13 Ie nigodañe ao iereo le niañambone mb’ añ’ efetse ambone ami’ty nitobea’ i Petera naho Iakobe naho i Jaona naho i Andrea, i Filipo naho i Tomasy, i Bartolomeo naho i Matio, Iakobe ana’ i Alfeo naho i Simona Zelota, vaho i Jodasy ana’ Iakobe.
And when they had arrived, they went up to an upper room, where abode Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James son of Alpheus, and Simon the zealous, and Jude brother to James.
14 Ie nitraok’ ìna naho nitolom-pitalaho naho halaly miharo amo Rakembao naho i Marie rene’ Iesoà vaho o roahalahi’eo.
These all persevered unanimously in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
15 Niongak’ añivo’ o rolongoo amy andro rezay t’i Petera (va’e zato tsy roapolo ty aman-tahinañe nifanontoñe ao) le nanao ty hoe:
And in those days arose Peter in the midst of the disciples, and said, (there was a number of persons together, about an hundred and twenty, )
16 Ry longo, tsi-mete tsy niheneke i Sokitse Masiñe nitokie’ i Arofo Masiñey am-palie’ i Davide i Jodasy niaolo o nitsepake Iesoàoy.
Men and brethren, it must needs be that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost delivered before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the conductor of those who seized on Jesus.
17 Ie nivolilieñe aman-tika naho nandrambe anjara amo fitoroñañe zao.
For he was reckoned of our number, and had obtained an appointment to this ministry.
18 (Nahazoan-teteke indatiy amy tamben-tahi’ey, ie nitsirikoake naho nipo­nake, vaho hene niforotrake o tsinai’eo.)
This man indeed accordingly purchased a spot of ground with the wages of iniquity; and projected forward, he burst in the midst, and all his bowels fell out.
19 Nanitsike o mpimoneñe e Ierosaleme ao iabio izay vaho tinoka’ iereo ty hoe Akeldama i tonday ami’ty saontsi’ iareo, midika ty hoe: Tondan-dio.
And it was a fact known to all who dwelt at Jerusalem; so that this field is called in their own dialect, Aceldama, that is, The field of blood.
20 Toe nipatereñe amy boken-Tsaboy, ty hoe: Adono hangoakoake ty traño’e, tsy hiambesara’ ondaty ka, vaho: ho rambese’ ty ila’e i fehe’ey.
For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let there be no man to dwell in it: and his office, as bishop, let another take.
21 Aa naho ondaty nirekets’ amantika amy ze hene andro niziliha’ i Iesoà Talè naho niakara’e amantika,
Wherefore from among the men who have associated with us always during the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22 mifototse amy nampilipora’ i Jaonay pak’amy andro nandrambesañe aze aman-tikañeio; le raik’ amy rezay ty ho mpiaman-tika valolombelo’ i fitroara’ey.
beginning from his baptism by John, until the day in which he was taken up from us, must there be chosen with us a witness of his resurrection, even one of these.
23 Aa le nonjoñeñe roe: Iosefe atao Barsabasy (i Josto ty añaram-binta’e), naho i Matia;
So they appointed two persons, Joseph called Barsabas, whose sirname was Justus, and Matthias.
24 vaho hoe iereo te nihalaly: Ry Iehovà, mpaharofoanañe ze kila arofo, atorò anay ty jinobo’o amo roe retoañe,
And joining in prayer, they said, Do thou, O Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, point out the one of these two which thou hast chosen,
25 handrambesa’e anjara ami’ty fitoroñañe toy naho ty maha-Firàheñe, ie niola t’i Jodasy nivike mb’amy nevae’e ao.
to take a part in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, to go to his own place.
26 Aa le nanoa’ iareo tsato-piso naho nitsatoke amy Matia, ie ty nitovo’ i Firàheñe folo-raik’ amby rey.
And they drew lots for them and the lot fell to Matthias and he was by unanimous suffrage numbered with the eleven apostles.
