< Rota 1 >
1 Ary tamin’ ny andro nitsaran’ ny mpitsara dia nisy mosary teo amin’ ny tany. Ary nisy lehilahy avy any Betlehema-joda nandeha nivahiny tany amin’ ny tany Moaba, dia izy sy ny vadiny mbamin’ ny zanany roa lahy;
In the days of one of the judges, when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. And a man from Bethlehem in Judah departed to sojourn in the region of the Moabites with his wife and two children.
2 Elimeleka no anaran-dralehilahy, ary Naomy no anaran’ ny vadiny, ary ny anaran’ ny zanany roa lahy dia Malona sy Kiliona, Efratita avy any Betlehema-joda izy ireo. Dia tonga tany amin’ ny tany Moaba izy ka nitoetra tany.
He called himself Elimelech, and his wife Naomi, and his two sons, the one Mahlon, and the other Chilion, Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. And entering into the region of the Moabites, they stayed there.
3 Ary maty Elimeleka, vadin’ i Naomy ka izy sy ny zanany roa lahy ihany no sisa.
And Elimelech the husband of Naomi died; and she remained with her sons.
4 Ary naka vady tamin’ ny vehivavy Moabita izy roa lahy: Orpa no anaran’ ny anankiray, ary Rota no anaran’ ny anankiray; dia nitoetra tany Moaba tokony ho folo taona izy.
They took wives from among the Moabites, of whom one was called Orpah, and the other Ruth. And they lived there ten years.
5 Ary maty koa izy mirahalahy, dia Malona sy Kiliona, ka dia namoy ny zanany roa lahy sy ny vadiny ravehivavy.
And they both died, namely Mahlon and Chilion, and the woman was left alone, bereaved of her two children and her husband.
6 Dia niainga izy sy ny vinantoni-vavy ka nody avy tany amin’ ny tany Moaba; fa efa reny tany amin’ ny tany Moaba fa novangian’ i Jehovah ny olony ka nomeny hanina.
And she arose so that she might journey to her native land, with both her daughters-in-law, from the region of the Moabites. For she had heard that the Lord had provided for his people and had given them food.
7 Dia niala tamin’ izay nitoerany izy, ary ny vinantony roa vavy niaraka taminy; ary nandeha teny an-dalana izy hiverina any amin’ ny tanin’ ny Joda.
And so she departed from the place of her sojourn, with both her daughters-in-law, and having set out upon the way, she was about to return to the land of Judah.
8 Ary hoy Naomy tamin’ ny vinantony roa vavy: Andeha, samy mody any amin’ ny tranon-dreninareo avy ianareo; mba hohasoavin’ i Jehovah anie ianareo araka izay efa nataonareo tamin’ ny maty sy tamiko koa.
She said to them, “Go to the home of your mother. May the Lord deal mercifully with you, just as you have dealt with the dead and with me.
9 Homen’ i Jehovah tokan-trano anie ianareo ka hahita fiadanana amin’ izay tranon’ ny vadinareo avy. Dia nanoroka azy Naomy; ary izy roa vavy dia samy nanandratra ny feony ka nitomany.
May he grant you to find rest in the houses of the husbands, whom you will obtain by lot.” And she kissed them. They lifted up their voice, and began to weep,
10 Dia hoy izy roa vavy taminy: Hiara-miverina aminao tokoa izahay ho any amin’ ny firenenao.
and to say, “We will journey with you to your people.”
11 Fa hoy Naomy: Miverena ihany ianareo, anaka; nahoana no hiara-mandeha amiko ianareo? Mbola misy zazalahy va ato an-kiboko mba ho vadinareo?
But she answered them, “Return, my daughters. Why come with me? Do I have any more sons in my womb, so that you could hope for husbands from me?
12 Miverena ihany ianareo, anaka, ka mandehana; fa efa antitra aho ka tsy hahazo vady intsony tsy akory. Raha hoy izaho: Manantena ihany aho, eny, na dia hanam-bady anio alina aza aho ka hiteraka zazalahy,
Return, my daughters, go forth. For I am now exhausted by old age, and not fit for the bond of marriage. Even if I were to conceive on this night, and bear sons,
13 moa hahandry azy mandra-pahalehibeny va ianareo ka hijanona tsy hanam-bady? Tsia, anaka, fa mangidy lavitra ny nanjo ahy noho ny nanjo anareo; fa ny tànan’ i Jehovah efa nahinjiny hamely ahy.
if you were willing to wait until they were grown and had completed the years of adolescence, you would be elderly before you could marry. Do not do so, I beg you, my daughters. For your difficulties weigh upon me greatly, and the hand of the Lord has been set against me.”
14 Dia samy nanandratra ny feony indray izy roa vavy ka nitomany; ary Orpa dia nanoroka ny rafozani-vavy, fa Rota kosa nifikitra taminy ihany.
In response, they lifted up their voice and began to weep again. Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, and then turned back. Ruth clung to her mother-in-law.
15 Ary hoy izy: Indro ny rahavavinao lasa nody ho any amin’ ny fireneny sy ny andriamaniny ka mba miverena ianao koa hanaraka ny rahavavinao.
Naomi said to her, “See, your kinswoman returns to her people, and to her gods. Hurry after her.”
16 Fa hoy Rota: Aza manery ahy handao anao sy hiala amin’ ny fanarahana anao; fa izay alehanao no halehako ary izay itoeranao no hitoerako, ny firenenao no ho fireneko, ary ny Andriamanitrao no ho Andriamanitro;
She answered, “Do not be against me, as if I would abandon you and go away; for wherever you will go, I will go, and where you will stay, I also will stay with you. Your people are my people, and your God is my God.
17 izay tany hahafatesanao no hahafatesako, sady any koa no handevenana ahy; hataon’ i Jehovah amiko anie izany, eny mihoatra noho izany aza, raha tsy ny fahafatesana ihany no hampisaraka antsika.
Whichever land will receive you dying, in the same I will die, and there I will have the place of my burial. May God cause these things to happen to me, and add more also, if anything except death alone should separate you and I.”
18 Ary rehefa hitany fa mbola mikikitra homba azy ihany Rota, dia nitsahatra tsy niteny taminy intsony izy.
Therefore, Naomi saw that Ruth, being firmly resolved in her soul, was determined to go with her, and that she was unwilling to be dissuaded, and that nothing further could convince her to return to her own.
19 Dia nandeha izy mianaka mandra-pahatongany tany Betlehema. Ary rehefa tonga tany Betlehema izy, dia taitra taminy ny tanàna rehetra, ka hoy ny vehivavy hoe: Naomy va re ity?
And so they set out together, and they came to Bethlehem. When they had entered the city, the news quickly spread among them all. And the women said, “This is that Naomi.”
20 Fa hoy izy taminy: Aza atao hoe Naomy intsony aho, fa ataovy hoe Mara, satria mangidy indrindra ny nataon’ ny Tsitoha amiko.
But she said to them, “Do not call me Naomi (that is, beautiful), but call me Mara (that is, bitter). For the Almighty has greatly filled me with bitterness.
21 Nivoaka nanam-be aho, fa ampodin’ i Jehovah tsy manana na inona na inona. Nahoana aho no ataonareo hoe Naomy, fa Jehovah efa nitsangan-ko fahavaloko, ary ny Tsitoha efa nampahory ahy?
I went out full and the Lord led me back empty. So then, why call me Naomi, whom the Lord has humbled and the Almighty has afflicted?”
22 Dia niverina Naomy, ary Rota, vehivavy Moabita, vinantoni-vavy, nomba azy tamin’ izy niverina avy tany amin’ ny tany Moaba; dia tonga tao Betlehema izy tamin’ ny niandohan’ ny taom-pijinjana ny vary hordea.
Therefore, Naomi went with Ruth, the Moabite, her daughter-in-law, from the land of her sojourn, and returned to Bethlehem, at the time of the first reaping of the barley.
