1 Ny tenin’ i Lemoela mpanjaka, dia ny teny mavesa-danja izay nananaran-dreniny azy.
These are the words of King Lemuel, an oracle, taught to him by his mother.
2 Ahoana, anaka? Ary ahoana, ry zanako naterako? Ary ahoana, ry zanaky ny voadiko?
What shall I tell you, my son?—the son I gave birth to, the son given in response to my vows.
3 Aza omena ny vehivavy ny herinao, Na ny fombam-piainanao ho an’ izay manimba mpanjaka.
Don't waste your strength sleeping with women, those that bring down kings.
4 Tsy mety amin’ ny mpanjaka, ry Lemoela, Eny; tsy mety amin’ ny mpanjaka ny misotro divay, Na amin’ ny mpanapaka ny ho fatra-paniry toaka;
Lemuel, kings shouldn't be drinking wine, rulers shouldn't be drinking alcohol.
5 Fandrao, raha misotro izy, dia manadino ny lalàna Ka mamily ny fitsarana ny zanaky ny fahoriana.
For if they drink, they'll forget what the law says, and pervert the rights of those who are suffering.
6 Omeo toaka izay efa ho faty, Eny, divay ho an’ izay malahelo azon’ ny fangidiam-panahy;
Give alcohol to those who are dying, and wine to those who are in terrible distress.
7 Aoka hisotro izy mba hanadinoany ny alahelony, Ary tsy hahatsiarovany ny fahoriany intsony.
Let them drink so they can forget their poverty, and not remember their troubles any longer.
8 Sokafy ny vavanao hisolo ny moana, Hahazoan’ ny kamboty ny rariny;
Speak up for those who have no voice, for the rights of those marginalized by society.
9 Sokafy ny vavanao, ka tsarao marina, Ary omeo rariny ny ory sy ny malahelo.
Speak up and judge fairly; defend the poor and destitute.
10 Iza no mahita vehivavy tsara? Fa ny tombany dia mihoatra lavitra noho ny voahangy.
Who can find a strong, capable wife? She's worth more than jewels!
11 Matoky azy ny fon’ ny lahy, Ary tsy mitsahatra ny fanambinana azy.
Her husband has complete confidence in her, and with her he'll never be poor.
12 Soa no ataon-dravehivavy aminy, fa tsy ratsy, Amin’ ny andro rehetra iainany.
She brings him good, not evil, all her life.
13 Mizaha volon’ ondry sy rongony izy Ary mazoto miasa amin’ ny tànany.
She gets wool and flax, and with her eager hands turns them into clothes.
14 Toy ny sambon’ ny mpandranto izy, Ka avy any amin’ ny lavitra no itondrany ny haniny.
Like a merchant's ship, she brings food from far away.
15 Mifoha izy, raha mbola alina, Ka manome hanina ho an’ ny ankohonany Sy anjara ho an’ ny ankizivaviny.
She gets up while it's still dark to make breakfast for her family, and to plan what her servant girls need to do.
16 Mihevitra saha izy ka mahazo azy; Ny vokatry ny tànany no anaovany tanim-boaloboka.
She looks at a field, and decides to buy it; from the money she's earned she buys a vineyard.
17 Misikìna hery izy, Ary hatanjahiny ny sandriny.
She's keen to get ready, and works hard with her strong arms.
18 Hitany fa tsara ny tombom-barony, Ary tsy maty jiro mandritra ny alina izy.
She knows that the things she makes are valuable. She keeps busy—her lamp burns late into the night.
19 Mandray ny fihazonam-bohavoha izy, Ary ny tànany mihazona ny ampela.
She spins the thread and weaves the cloth.
20 Manatsotra ny tànany amin’ ny ory izy, Eny, mamelatra ny tànany amin’ ny mahantra.
She's generous to the poor, and gives help to the needy.
21 Tsy manahy ny oram-panala ho amin’ ny ankohonany izy, Fa ny ankohonany rehetra samy voatafy volon’ ondry mena avokoa.
She doesn't worry if it snows, because her whole family has warm clothing.
22 Manao firakotra ho azy izy; Ny fitafiany dia rongony fotsy madinika sy lamba volomparasy.
She makes herself bedspreads; she dresses in fine linen and purple clothes.
23 Ny lahy dia hajaina eo am-bavahady, Raha miara-mipetraka eo amin’ ny loholona.
Her husband is well-respected in the council at the town gates, where he sits with the town elders.
24 Manao akanjo hariry madinika ravehivavy ka mivarotra izany, Ary fehin-kibo no amidiny amin’ ny mpandranto.
She makes linen clothes for sale, and supplies merchants with belts.
25 Hery sy voninahitra no fitafiany, Ary ny andro ho avy dia ihomehezany.
She's clothed with strength and dignity, and she is happy about the future.
26 Manokatra ny vavany amin’ ny fahendrena izy; Ary ny lalàn’ ny famindram-po no eo amin’ ny lelany.
She speaks wise words, and she's kind when she gives instructions.
27 Mitandrina tsara ny ataon’ ny ankohonany izy Ary tsy homana ny mofon’ ny fahalainana.
She looks after the needs of her whole household, and she's never idle.
28 Ny zanany mitsangana ka midera azy hoe sambatra; Ny lahy koa mitsangana ka midera azy hoe:
Her children are quick to bless her. Her husband praises her too, saying,
29 Maro no zazavavy nanao soa, Fa ianao manoatra noho izy rehetra.
“Many women do great things, but you are better than all of them!”
30 Fitaka ny fahatsaram-bika, ary zava-poana ny fahatsaran-tarehy; Fa ny vehivavy matahotra an’ i Jehovah ihany no hoderaina.
Charm can deceive, and beauty fades, but a woman who honors the Lord should be praised.
31 Omeo azy ny avy amin’ ny vokatry ny tànany; Ary aoka ny asany hidera azy eo am-bavahady.
Give her the recognition she deserves; praise her publicly for what she's done.
