1 Mpaniratsira ny divay, ary mpitabataba ny toaka, Koa izay miraikiraiky azon’ izany dia tsy hendry.
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is noisy; and whosoever indulgeth therein will never be wise.
2 Ny fampitahoran’ ny mpanjaka dia toy ny fieron’ ny liona tanora; Izay mampahatezitra azy dia mankahà-doza hihatra amin’ ny ainy,
Like the roaring of a young lion is the dread of a king: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3 Voninahitry ny olona ny hanalavitra ny ady; Fa ny adala rehetra kosa misafoaka.
It is an honor for a man to cease from a contest; but every fool enrageth himself.
4 Ny malaina tsy mety miasa amin’ ny ririnina, Ka dia hangataka izy raha fararano, fa tsy hahazo.
Because it is winter's cold, will the sluggard not plough: when he therefore seeketh in the harvest time, there will be nothing.
5 Rano lalina ny hevitra ao am-pon’ ny olona; Fa izay manan-tsaina dia mahay manovo azy ihany,
Like deep water is counsel in the heart of man; but the man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Maro ny olona samy midera ny soa ataon’ ny tenany avy; Fa izay olo-mahatoky, iza moa no mahita azy?
Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; but who can find a faithful man?
7 Izay olona marina mandeha amin’ ny fahitsiany Sambatra ny zanany mandimby azy.
The righteous walketh in his integrity: happy will be his children after him.
8 Mipetraka eo amin’ ny seza fitsarana ny mpanjaka, Ka mikororoka manaisotra ny ratsy rehetra ny masony.
A king that sitteth on the throne of justice scattereth away with his eyes all evil.
9 Iza no mahazo manao hoe: Efa nahadio ny foko aho Ka madio tsy manana ota?
Who can say, I have made my heart pure, I am cleansed from my sin.
10 Ny vato mizana samy hafa sy ny vata famarana samy hafa Dia samy fahavetavetana eo imason’ i Jehovah.
Divers weights, and divers measures, are both of them alike an abomination of the Lord.
11 Na dia ny zaza aza dia mampiseho amin’ ny fanaony Na madio sy mahitsy ny fitondran-tenany.
Even a child maketh himself known by his doings, whether his work will be pure, and whether it will be upright.
12 Ny sofina mandre sy ny maso mahita Dia samy nataon’ i Jehovah avokoa.
The ear that heareth, and the eye that seeth, the Lord hath made both of them alike.
13 Aza tia torimaso ianao, fandrao tonga malahelo; Ahirato ny masonao, dia ho voky hanina ianao.
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty: open thy eyes, so wilt thou be satisfied with bread.
14 Ratsy! ratsy! hoy ny mpividy; Kanjo nony lasa izy, dia mandoka tena.
It is bad, it is bad, saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then doth he boast.
15 Ao ihany ny volamena sy ny voahangy betsaka; Fa ny molotra misy fahalalana no ravaka soa.
There is gold, and a multitude of pearls; but a precious vessel are the lips of knowledge.
16 Alao ny lambany, fa efa niantoka olon-kafa izy, Ary tano ho solon’ ny vahiny niantohany.
Take away his garment, because he hath become surety for a stranger; and on account of a strange woman take a pledge from him.
17 Mamin’ ny olona ny hanina azo amin’ ny fitaka; Kanjo ho feno fasika ny vavany any am-parany.
Bread of falsehood is pleasant to a man; but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel-stones.
18 Ny hevitra rehetra dia aorin’ ny fisainana, Ary ny fahaizana mandamina tsara no entonao miady.
Plans are established by counsel; and with wise reflection conduct war.
19 Izay mandehandeha manaratsy dia manambara ny hevitra afenina, Koa aza miraharaha amin’ izay mibedibedy foana.
He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that enticeth with his lips.
20 Izay manozona ny rainy na ny reniny, Dia ho faty ao amin’ ny alim-pito ny jirony.
Whoso curseth his father or his mother—his lamp shall be quenched in obscure darkness.
21 Ny harena malaky azo foana eo am-boalohany Dia tsy hotahina any am-parany.
An inheritance hastily gotten at the beginning will at its end not be blessed,
22 Aza manao hoe: Hamaly ny ratsy nataony aho; Fa andraso Jehovah, fa Izy no hamonjy anao.
Do not say, I will recompense evil; [but] wait on the Lord, and he will help thee.
23 Fahavetavetana eo imason’ i Jehovah ny vato samy hafa, Ary ny mizana mandainga dia tsy tsara.
Divers weights are an abomination of the Lord; and a deceitful balance is not good.
24 Avy amin’ i Jehovah ny dian’ ny olona, Ary hataon’ izay olombelona ahoana no hahafantatra ny lalany?
From the Lord are the steps of man [ordained]; but man— how can he understand his own way?
25 Fandrika amin’ ny olona ny malaky manao hoe: Zavatra masìna ity; Ka nony vita ny voady, vao mamototra.
It is a snare to a man to sanctify things hastily, and to make inquiry only after having made vows.
26 Ny mpanjaka hendry mikororoka manaisotra ny ratsy fanahy Sady mitarika ny kodia fivelezana eo amboniny.
A wise king scattereth the wicked, and turneth over them the threshing-wheel.
27 Jiron’ i Jehovah ny fanahin’ ny olona, Itsilovana ny efitrefitra rehetra ao am-po.
A lamp of the Lord is the soul of man, searching all the inner chambers of the body.
28 Famindram-po sy fahamarinana no miaro ny mpanjaka, Ary ampitoeriny amin’ ny famindram-po ny seza fiandrianany.
Kindness and truth will watch over a king, and he will prop up through kindness his throne.
29 Voninahitry ny zatovo ny fahatanjahany, Ary ravaky ny anti-panahy ny volo fotsy.
The ornament of young men is their strength; and the glory of old men is a hoary head.
30 Ny fampangirifiriana dia mahafaka ny faharatsiana, Ary ny kapoka mahadio ny efitrefitra ao an-kibo.
The bruises of a wound are cleansing means for the bad, and stripes [will reach] the inner chambers of the body.
