< Ohabolana 10 >
1 Ohabolan’ i Solomona. Ny zanaka hendry mahafaly ny rainy; Fa ny zanaka adala mampalahelo ny reniny.
Solomon's proverbs. A wise son makes his father happy, but a stupid son only brings his mother grief.
2 Ny harena azo amin’ ny tsy marina dia tsy mahasoa na inona na inona; Fa ny fahamarinana no mamonjy amin’ ny fahafatesana.
Wealth gained through evil does you no good; but living right saves you from death.
3 Tsy avelan’ i Jehovah ho mosarena ny fanahin’ ny marina; Fa foanany ny fanirian’ ny ratsy fanahy.
The Lord doesn't let good people go hungry, but he stops the wicked from getting what they want.
4 Ho tonga malahelo ny miraviravy tanana amin’ ny asany; Fa mampanan-karena ny tanan’ ny mazoto.
Lazy hands make you poor, but hard-working hands make you rich.
5 Izay manangona amin’ ny fararano no zanaka hendry; Fa izay sondrian-tory amin’ ny taom-pijinjana no zanaka mampahamenatra.
A son who gathers crops during the summer is sensible, but the one who sleeps during harvest brings disgrace.
6 Fitahiana no ho ao amin’ ny lohan’ ny marina; Fa loza no mandrakotra ny vavan’ ny ratsy fanahy.
Those who are good are blessed, but what the wicked say hides their violent nature.
7 Hankasitrahana ny fahatsiarovana ny marina; Fa ho lò ny anaran’ ny ratsy fanahy.
The good are remembered as a blessing, but the reputation of the wicked will rot.
8 Izay hendry am-po no handray ny didy; Fa ho lavo ny adala maro vava.
Those who think wisely pay attention to instruction, but a stupid chatterbox ends up in disaster.
9 Izay mandeha tsy misy tsiny no mandeha matoky; Fa izay maniasia amin’ ny alehany dia fantatra.
Honest people will live in safety, but those who behave deceitfully will be caught out.
10 Izay mami-maso manome alahelo; Fa ho lavo ny adala maro vava.
People who wink slyly cause trouble, but someone who gives a strong rebuke brings peace.
11 Loharanon’ aina ny vavan’ ny marina; Fa loza no mandrakotra ny vavan’ ny ratsy fanahy.
What good people say is a spring that gives life, but what the wicked say hides their violent nature.
12 Ny fankahalana dia manetsika ady; Fa ny fitiavana manarona ny ota rehetra.
Hatred causes conflict, but love covers all wrongs.
13 Amin’ ny molotry ny manan-tsaina no ahitam-pahendrena; Fa tsorakazo no ho amin’ ny lamosin’ ny tsy ampy saina.
Wisdom comes from people with good judgment, but stupid people are punished with a rod.
14 Ny hendry mirakitra fahalalana; Fa ny vavan’ ny adala eo akaikin’ ny fandringanana.
Wise people accumulate knowledge, but the chattering of stupid people is a prelude to disaster.
15 Ny haren’ ny manan-karena no vohiny mafy; Fa ny tsi-fananan’ ny ory no fandringanana azy.
The wealth of the rich provides them protection, while the poverty of the poor ruins them.
16 Ho fiainana ny asan’ ny marina; Fa ho ota ny fitomboan’ ny haren’ ny ratsy fanahy.
If you do right you're rewarded with life, but if you're wicked all you gain is sin.
17 Izay mino anatra dia ho tonga eo amin’ ny lalan’ ny fiainana; Fa mivily izay mandà anatra.
If you accept instruction, you're on the path to life, but if you reject correction you'll go astray.
18 Izay mitahiry lolompo dia manana molotra mandainga, Ary izay mampiely endrikendrika dia adala.
Anyone who hides their hatred is lying, and anyone who spreads slander is stupid.
19 Ny teny maro tsy ilaozan’ izay ota; Fa izay mahatana ny molony no hendry.
If you talk too much, you'll say something wrong. Be wise and take care what you say.
20 Volafotsy voafantina ny lelan’ ny marina; Fa ny fon’ ny ratsy fanahy tsy misy vidiny.
What good people say is like the best silver, but the mind of the wicked isn't worth much.
21 Ny molotry ny marina mamelona ny maro; Fa maty ny adala noho ny tsi-fananany fahalalana.
Advice from good people helps feed many others, but stupid people die because they have no sense.
22 Ny fitahian’ i Jehovah no mampanan-karena, Ary tsy azon’ ny fisasarana ampiana izany.
The Lord's blessing makes you rich, and he doesn't add any sadness to accompany it.
23 Toa laolaon’ ny adala ny fanaovan-dratsy Fa raha ny manan-tsaina, dia fahendrena kosa.
Stupid people think it's fun to do wrong, but someone who has wisdom understands what's right.
24 Ny tahotry ny ratsy fanahy hihatra aminy; Fa ny irin’ ny marina no homena azy.
What the wicked fear will happen to them, while what good people hope for will be granted.
25 Rehefa mipaoka ny tafio-drivotra, dia tsy ao intsony ny ratsy fanahy; Fa ny marina voaorina ho mandrakizay.
When the storm hits, the wicked are no more, but the good are safe and secure forever.
26 Toy ny vinaingitra amin’ ny nify sy ny setroka amin’ ny maso. Dia mba toy izany koa ny malaina amin’ izay maniraka azy.
In the same way vinegar irritates the teeth and smoke irritates the eyes, lazy people irritate their employers.
27 Ny fahatahorana an’ i Jehovah no mahela velona; Fa ny taonan’ ny ratsy fanahy hohafohezina.
Honoring the Lord makes your life longer, but the years the wicked live will be cut short.
28 Ny fanantenan’ ny marina dia fifaliana; Fa ny fanantenan’ ny ratsy fanahy ho foana.
Good people look forward to happiness, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
29 Ny lalan’ i Jehovah dia fiarovana mafy ho an’ izay tsy misy tsiny, Fa fandringanana kosa ho an’ ny mpanao ratsy.
The way of the Lord protects those who do right, but he destroys those who do evil.
30 Ny marina tsy hangozohozo mandrakizay; Fa ny ratsy fanahy tsy honina amin’ ny tany.
The good will never be removed from the land, but the wicked will not remain there.
31 Eo amin’ ny vavan’ ny marina no itsimohan’ ny fahendrena; Fa ny lela fandainga hofongorana.
What good people say produces wisdom, but liars will have their tongues cut out.
32 Ny molotry ny marina mahalala izay ankasitrahana; Fa ny vavan’ ny ratsy fanahy dia feno fitaka.
Good people know the right thing to say, but the wicked always lie.
