Nomery 25

1 Ary nitoetra tao Sitima ny Isiraely, dia niantomboka nijangajanga tamin’ ny zanakavavin’ ny Moabita izy.

Now when Israel was living in Shittim the people became false to the Lord, doing evil with the daughters of Moab:

2 Fa ireo nanasa ny olona hihinana tamin’ ny zavatra novonoiny ho fanatitra ho an’ ny andriamaniny, ka nihinana ny olona sady niankohoka tamin’ ny andriamaniny.

For they sent for the people to be present at the offerings made to their gods; and the people took part in their feasts and gave honour to their gods.

3 Dia niray tamin’ i Bala-peora ny Isiraely, ka nirehitra taminy ny fahatezeran’ i Jehovah.

So Israel had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor: and the Lord was moved to wrath against Israel.

4 Dia hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Mosesy: Alao ny loholona rehetra, ary ahantòny tandrifin’ ny masoandro eo anatrehan’ i Jehovah ireo nijangajanga ireo, mba hitsaharan’ ny firehetan’ ny fahatezeran’ i Jehovah amin’ ny Isiraely.

Then the Lord said to Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, hanging them up in the sun before the Lord, so that the wrath of the Lord may be turned from Israel.

5 Dia hoy Mosesy tamin’ ny mpitsara ny Isiraely: Samia ianareo mamono ny olom-peheziny, izay niray tamin’ i Bala-peora.

So Moses said to the judges of Israel, Let everyone put to death those of his men who have had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor.

6 Ary, indro, avy ny anankiray tamin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely nitondra vehivavy Midianita teo amin’ ny rahalahiny, teo imason’ i Mosesy sy ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, izay nitomany teo amin’ ny varavaran’ ny trano-lay fihaonana.

Then one of the children of Israel came to his brothers, taking with him a woman of Midian, before the eyes of Moses and all the meeting of the people, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of meeting.

7 Ary raha nahita izany Finehasa, zanak’ i Eleazara, zanak’ i Arona mpisorona, dia nitsangana niala teo amin’ ny fiangonana izy ka nitondra lefona teny an-tànany;

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, seeing it, got up from among the people and took a spear in his hand,

8 dia nandeha nanaraka ilay lehilahy Isiraelita tao an-day izy, ary nataony indray nandefona izy roroa, dia ny lehilahy Isiraelita sy ny vehivavy, ka voagorobaka hatrany amin’ ny kibon-dravehivavy. Dia natsahatra ny areti-mandringana teo amin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely.

And went after the man of Israel into the tent, driving the spear through the two of them, through the man of Israel and through the stomach of the woman. So the disease was stopped among the children of Israel.

9 Ary izay maty tamin’ ny areti-mandringana dia efatra arivo amby roa alina.

But twenty-four thousand of them had come to their death by the disease.

10 Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy ka nanao hoe:

And the Lord said to Moses,

11 Finehasa, zanak’ i Eleazara, zanak’ i Arona mpisorona, nampiala ny fahatezerako tamin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely, raha firehitra noho ny fitiavany Ahy izy; ka dia tsy nataoko lany ringana ny Zanak’ Isiraely tamin’ ny firehetan’ ny fahatezerako.

Through Phinehas, and because of his passion for my honour, my wrath has been turned away from the children of Israel, so that I have not sent destruction on them all in my wrath.

12 Ary noho izany dia lazao hoe: Indro, omeko azy ny faneken’ ny fihavanako;

So say to them that I will make with him an agreement of peace:

13 ary izy sy ny zanany mandimby azy no hanana izany ho faneken’ ny fisoronana mandrakizay, satria nirehitra noho ny fitiavany an’ Andriamaniny izy ka nanao fanavotana ho an’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely.

And by this agreement, he and his sons after him have the right to be priests for ever; because, by his care for the honour of his God, he took away the sin of the children of Israel.

14 Ary ny anaran’ ilay lehilahy Isiraelita novonoina, izay niaraka novonoina tamin-dravehivavy Midianita, dia Zimry, zanak i Salo, lohan’ ny fianakaviana tamin’ ny Simeonita.

Now the man of Israel who was put to death with the woman of Midian was Zimri, the son of Salu, a chief of one of the families of the Simeonites.

15 Ary ny anaran’ ny vehivavy Midianita izay novonoina dia Kosby, zanak’ i Zora, lohan’ ny fianakaviana tamin’ ny Midianita.

And the woman of Midian who was put to death was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was the head of a family in Midian.

16 Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy ka nanao hoe:

Then the Lord said to Moses,

17 Rafeso ny Midianita, ka iadio;

Take up arms against the Midianites and overcome them;

18 fa izy nandrafy anareo tamin’ ny fanangoleny, izay nanangoleny anareo tamin’ ny an’ i Peora sy Kosby anabaviny, zanakavavin’ ny andriandahy Midianita anankiray, izay novonoina tamin’ ny andron’ ny areti-mandringana noho ny an’ i Peora.

For they are a danger to you with their false ways, causing sin to come on you in the question of Peor, and because of Cozbi, their sister, the daughter of the chief of Midian, who was put to death at the time of the disease which came on you because of Peor.
