1 Dia nanandratra ny feony ny fiangonana rehetra ka nitaraina; ary nitomany ny olona tamin’ iny alina iny.

And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

2 Dia nimonomonona tamin’ i Mosesy sy Arona ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, ka hoy ny fiangonana rehetra taminy; Inay anie isika mba maty tany amin’ ny tany Egypta ihany; na inay anie isika mba maty tatỳ amin’ ity efitra ity!

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said unto them: 'Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would we had died in this wilderness!

3 Ary nahoana Jehovah no mitondra antsika ho amin’ ity tany ity ho lavon-tsabatra, ary ny vadintsika sy ny zanatsika madinika ho babo; tsy aleontsika miverina ho any Egypta va?

And wherefore doth the LORD bring us unto this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey; were it not better for us to return into Egypt?'

4 Dia nifampitaona hoe izy: Andeha hifidy mpitarika isika ka hiverina any Egypta.

And they said one to another: 'Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.'

5 Ary Mosesy sy Arona dia niankohoka teo anatrehan’ ny fivorian’ ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra.

Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6 Ary Josoa, zanak’ i Nona, sy Kaleba, zanak’ i Jefone, izay isan’ ny nisafo ny tany, dia nandriatra ny fitafiany;

And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of them that spied out the land, rent their clothes.

7 ary niteny tamin’ ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, izy roa lahy ka nanao hoe: Ny tany izay nalehanay nosafoina dia tany tsara indrindra.

And they spoke unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: 'The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.

8 Raha sitrak’ i Jehovah isika, dia hitondra antsika ho amin’ izany tany izany Izy, ka homeny antsika, dia tany tondra-dronono sy tantely.

If the LORD delight in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it unto us — a land which floweth with milk and honey.

9 Fa aza miodina amin’ i Jehovah ianareo, ary aza matahotra ny tompon-tany; fa hanina ho antsika ireo; ny fiarovany efa niala taminy, ary Jehovah momba antsika; koa aza matahotra azy ianareo.

Only rebel not against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us; their defence is removed from over them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.'

10 Fa hoy ny fiangonana rehetra: Torahy vato izy roa lahy. Kanjo ny voninahitr’ i Jehovah niseho teo amin’ ny trano-lay fihaonana, teo anatrehan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra.

But all the congregation bade stone them with stones, when the glory of the LORD appeared in the tent of meeting unto all the children of Israel.

11 Dia hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Mosesy: Mandra-pahoviana no hamotsifotsian’ ity firenena ity Ahy? ary mandra-pahoviana no tsy hinoany Ahy noho ny famantarana rehetra izay nataoko teo aminy?

And the LORD said unto Moses: 'How long will this people despise Me? and how long will they not believe in Me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?

12 Hamely azy amin’ ny areti-mandringana Aho ka hamongotra azy, fa hanao anao ho firenena lehibe sy mahery noho izy kosa.

I will smite them with the pestilence, and destroy them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.'

13 Dia hoy Mosesy tamin’ i Jehovah: Dia ho ren’ ny Egyptiana izany; fa ny herinao no nitondranao ity firenena ity nivoaka avy teo aminy,

And Moses said unto the LORD: 'When the Egyptians shall hear — for Thou broughtest up this people in Thy might from among them —

14 ary holazainy amin’ ny monina eo amin’ ity tany ity izany; ary efa reny fa Hianao Jehovah no eto amin’ ity firenena ity, ary Hianao Jehovah no hita mifanatrika, ary ny rahonao mijanona eo amboniny, ary Hianao no mitarika azy eo aloha amin’ ny andri-rahona nony andro, ary amin’ ny andri-afo nony alina.

they will say to the inhabitants of this land, who have heard that Thou LORD art in the midst of this people; inasmuch as Thou LORD art seen face to face, and Thy cloud standeth over them, and Thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night;

15 Fa raha mahafaty ity firenena ity toy ny olona iray Hianao, dia hiteny ny jentilisa, izay nandre ny lazanao, ka hanao hoe:

now if Thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of Thee will speak, saying:

16 Satria tsy zakan’ i Jehovah ny mitondra iny firenena iny ho any amin’ ny tany izay nianianany taminy homena azy, dia namono azy tany an-efitra Izy.

Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which He swore unto them, therefore He hath slain them in the wilderness.

17 Ary ankehitriny, aoka hiseho ny halehiben’ ny herin’ ny Tompo, araka ilay teninao hoe:

And now, I pray Thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as Thou hast spoken, saying:

18 Mahari-po Jehovah sady be famindram-po, mamela heloka sy fahadisoana, kanefa tsy mety manamarina ny meloka, fa mamaly ny heloky ny ray amin’ ny zanaka hatramin’ ny zafiafy sy ny zafindohalika.

The LORD is slow to anger, and plenteous in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

19 Mifona aminao aho, mamelà ny helok’ ity firenena ity araka ny halehiben’ ny famindram-ponao, sy araka ny namelanao ny helok’ ity firenena ity hatrany Egypta ka mandraka ankehitriny.

Pardon, I pray Thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of Thy lovingkindness, and according as Thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.'

20 Dia hoy Jehovah: Efa navelako araka ny teninao izany.

And the LORD said: 'I have pardoned according to thy word.

21 Kanefa raha velona koa Aho, ka ho feno ny voninahitr’ i Jehovah ny tany rehetra,

But in very deed, as I live — and all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD —

22 ireo lehilahy rehetra ireo, izay nahita ny voninahitro sy ny famantarako izay nataoko tany Egypta sy tany an-efitra, nefa naka fanahy Ahy izao im-polo izao, ka tsy nihaino ny feoko,

surely all those men that have seen My glory, and My signs, which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have put Me to proof these ten times, and have not hearkened to My voice;

23 dia tsy hahita mihitsy ny tany izay nianianako tamin’ ny razany homena azy; eny, izay rehetra namotsifotsy Ahy dia samy tsy hahita izany.

surely they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that despised Me see it.

24 Fa ny amin’ i Kaleba mpanompoko kosa, satria fanahy hafa no tao aminy, ka tanteraka tamin’ ny fanarahana Ahy izy, dia ho entiko ho any amin’ ny tany izay nalehany izy, ary ny zanany handova izany.

But My servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed Me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

25 Ary ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita no mponina eo amin’ ny lohasaha; koa rahampitso dia miverena ianareo, ka mankanesa any an-efitra amin’ ny lalana mankany amin’ ny Ranomasina Mena.

Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the Vale; tomorrow turn ye, and get you into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.'

26 Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy sy Arona ka nanao hoe:

And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:

27 Mandra-pahoviana no mbola handeferako amin’ izao fiangonana ratsy mimonomonona amiko izao? Efa reko ny fimonomononan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely, izay imonomononany amiko.

'How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that keep murmuring against Me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they keep murmuring against Me.

28 Lazao aminy hoe: Raha velona koa Aho, hoy Jehovah, dia araka izay nolazainareo teo anatrehako no hataoko aminareo:

Say unto them: As I live, saith the LORD, surely as ye have spoken in Mine ears, so will I do to you:

29 Etỳ amin’ ity efitra ity no hiampatramparan’ ny fatinareo; ary ianareo rehetra izay voalamina araka ny nanisana anareo, dia ny hatramin’ ny roa-polo taona no ho miakatra, izay efa nimonomonona tamiko,

your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, ye that have murmured against Me;

30 dia tsy ho tonga mihitsy any amin’ ny tany izay nananganako tanana hamponenana anareo, afa-tsy Kaleba, zanak’ i Jefone, sy Josoa, zanak’ i Nona.

surely ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I lifted up My hand that I would make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 Fa ny zanakareo madinika kosa, izay nolazainareo fa ho babo, dia izy no ho entiko miditra, ary izy no hahalala ny tany izay nolavinareo.

But your little ones, that ye said would be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have rejected.

32 Fa ny aminareo, dia hiampatrampatra amin’ ity efitra ity ny fatinareo;

But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness.

33 ary ny zanakareo hirenireny toy ny mpiandry ondry atỳ an-efitra efa-polo taona ka hiharan’ ny valin’ ny fijangajanganareo, mandra-pahafatinareo rehetra atỳ an-efitra.

And your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your strayings, until your carcasses be consumed in the wilderness.

34 Araka ny isan’ ny andro efa-polo izay nisafoanareo ny tany, ka ny andro iray hosoloana taona iray no hitondranareo ny helokareo efa-polo taona; ka dia ho fantatrareo ny fahafoizako anareo.

After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know My displeasure.

35 Izaho Jehovah efa nilaza fa hataoko tokoa izany amin’ izao fiangonana ratsy rehetra izao, izay miangona hiodina amiko; etỳ amin’ ity efitra ity no hahalany ritra azy, ary etỳ no hahafatesany.

I the LORD have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against Me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.'

36 Ary ny lehilahy izay nirahin’ i Mosesy hisafo ny tany, dia izay niverina ka nampimonomonona ny fiangonana rehetra tamin’ i Mosesy, satria nanao laza ratsy ny tany izy,

And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, and who, when they returned, made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,

37 dia matin’ ny areti-mandringana teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah ireny lehilahy nilaza ratsy ny tany ireny.

even those men that did bring up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

38 Fa Josoa, zanak’ i Nona, sy Kaleba, zanak’ i Jefone, kosa, izay isan’ ny lehilahy nandeha nisafo ny tany, dia velona ihany.

But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men that went to spy out the land.

39 Dia nolazain’ i Mosesy tamin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra izany teny izany; ka dia nanjoretra terỳ ny olona.

And Moses told these words unto all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly.

40 Dia nifoha maraina koa izy ary niakatra tany an-tampon’ ny tendrombohitra ka nanao hoe: Indreto izahay hiakatra ho any amin’ ny tany izay nolazain’ i Jehovah, fa efa nanota izahay.

And they rose up early in the morning, and got them up to the top of the mountain, saying: 'Lo, we are here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised; for we have sinned.'

41 Dia hoy Mosesy: Nahoana no mandika ny didin’ i Jehovah ianareo? fa tsy hambinina izany.

And Moses said: 'Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD, seeing it shall not prosper?

42 Aza miakatra, fa tsy momba anareo Jehovah,

Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten down before your enemies.

43 fandrao ho resy eo anoloan’ ny fahavalonareo ianareo; fa ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita dia eo anoloanareo, ka ho lavon-tsabatra ianareo; satria niala tamin’ ny fanarahana an’ i Jehovah ianareo, dia tsy homba anareo Izy.

For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and ye shall fall by the sword; forasmuch as ye are turned back from following the LORD, and the LORD will not be with you.'

44 Kanjo sahisahy foana izy ka niakatra teo an-tampon’ ny tendrombohitra ihany; nefa Mosesy sy ny fiaran’ ny faneken’ i Jehovah tsy niala teo an-toby.

But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain; nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

45 Dia nidina ny Amalekita sy ny Kananita, izay nonina teo amin’ izany tendrombohitra izany, ka namely azy ary nanorotoro azy hatrany Horma.

Then the Amalekite and the Canaanite, who dwelt in that hill-country, came down, and smote them and beat them down, even unto Hormah.
