1 Indrisy! efa matromatroka ny volamena; Efa niova ny tena volamena tsara! Ny vato nohamasinina dia efa nahahany eny an-joron-dalambe rehetra eny.
Oh how is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! how are the stones of the sanctuary poured out at the corners of every street.
2 Indrisy! ny zanaka mahafinaritr’ i Ziona, izay saro-bidy tahaka ny tena volamena, dia efa atao ho toy ny siny, asan-tànan’ ny mpanefy tanimanga!
The precious sons of Zion, valued equal to pure gold, how are they now esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
3 Na dia ny amboadia aza dia manolotra nono hampinonoany ny zanany; Fa ny oloko zanakavavy kosa dia efa masiaka toy ny ostritsa any an-efitra.
Even wild beasts offer the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 Ny lelan’ ny zaza minono miraikitra amin’ ny lanilaniny noho ny hetaheta; Ny ankizy madinika mangataka hanina, nefa tsy misy mizara ho azy.
The tongue of the suckling cleaveth to its palate by reason of thirst: babes ask for bread, there is not one to break it for them.
5 Izay nihinana zava-py dia mahantra eny an-dalambe; Izay notezaina tamin’ ny jaky dia mandamaka eny amin’ ny zezika.
Those that used to eat dainty food are desolate in the streets: they that were reared up on scarlet now embrace dunghills.
6 Fa ny heloky ny oloko zanakavavy dia lehibe noho ny helok’ i Sodoma, Izay noravana indray mipi-maso monja, nefa tsy nokasihin-tanana akory,
For greater is the iniquity of the daughter of my people than the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as it were in a moment, and no human hands were laid on her.
7 Ny lehibeny dia mangatsakatsaka noho ny fanala, eny, fotsy noho ny ronono; Mena noho ny voahangy ny tenany; Tahaka ny vato safira ny endriny.
Her crowned princes were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more brilliant in body than pearls, more than the sapphire, their countenance:

Darker than black is now their visage; they are not to be recognized in the streets: their skin is shriveled fast upon their bones; it is dry, it is become like wood.
9 Tsara ny matin-tsabatra noho ny maty mosary; Fa ireto dia mihareraka toy ny voatrobaka noho ny tsi-fisian’ ny vokatry ny saha.
Happier are those slain by the sword than those slain by hunger; for those poured forth their blood, being pierced through, —[these perished] without the fruits of the field.
10 Ny tanan’ ny vehivavy malemy fanahy aza dia nahandro ny zanany: Eny, izany no nohaniny tamin’ ny fandringanana ny oloko zanakavavy.
The hands of merciful women cooked their own children: they became food unto them in the downfall of the daughter of my people.
11 Tanterahin’ i Jehovah ny fahavinirany, naidiny ny fahatezerany mirehitra, ary Izy nampirehitra afo tao Ziona, handevonana ny fanorenany.
The Lord hath let loose all his fury: he hath poured out the fierceness of his anger: and he hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath devoured her foundations.

The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not believe that an adversary or an enemy could ever enter within the gates of Jerusalem.
13 Noho ny fahotan’ ny mpaminany sy ny heloky ny mpisorony, izay nandatsaka ny ran’ ny marina tao aminy, no nahatongavan’ izao.
[But it hath happened] because of the sins of her prophets, the iniquities of her priests, that had shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous.
14 Niraparapa toy ny jamba teny an-dalambe izy, sady voahosin-drà ny tenany, ka tsy nisy sahy nikasika ny akanjony.
They wandered about blindly in the streets, they became defiled with blood; so that men were not able to touch their garments.
15 Ny olona niantsoantso azy hoe: Mialà ianareo, fa maloto, mialà, mialà, aza mikasika anay. Raha nandositra sy niraparapa izy, dia hoy ny olona tany amin’ ny jentilisa: Tsy mahazo mivahiny atỳ intsony ireny.
Depart, ye unclean, they called out unto them: depart, depart, touch not. So they flee away and also wander about: men say among the nations, They shall no more sojourn there.
16 Ny fahatezeran’ i Jehovah no nampihahakahaka azy, ary tsy mijery azy intsony Izy; Ny mpisorona tsy hajain’ ireny, ary ny antitra tsy amindrany fo.
The anger of the Lord hath divided them; he will no more look at them: the faces of the priests they respected not, and the elders they spared not.
17 Mbola pahina ny masonay miandry foana ny hamonjy anay; Nitazana teo amin’ ny tilikambo izahay nanantena ny firenena izay tsy nahavonjy anay.
Even now our eyes anxiously wait for our valueless help: in our waiting have we waited for a nation that cannot help.
18 Mitsongo-dia anay izy, ka tsy mahazo mandeha eny an-dalambe aza izahay; Akaiky ny fara-fiainanay, tapitra ny andronay, eny, tonga ny fara-fiainanay.
They hunt our steps, that we cannot walk in our streets: our end is near, our days are full: for our end is come.
19 Ny mpanenjika anay dia haingam-pandeha noho ny voromahery eny amin’ ny lanitra, ka miolomay manenjika anay any an-tendrombohitra ary manotrika anay any an-efitra izy.
Swifter were our pursuers than the eagles of heaven: upon the mountains did they hotly follow us: in the wilderness did they lie in wait for us.
20 Ny fofonainay, ilay voahosotr’ i Jehovah, dia efa voafandriky ny longoany, dia ilay nataonay hoe: Ao ambanin’ ny alokalony no hahavelona anay any amin’ ny firenena.
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was caught in their pits, he, of whom we said, Under his shadow shall we live among the nations.
21 Mifalia sy miraveravoa ihany ary, ry Edoma zanakavavy, izay monina any amin’ ny tany Oza, ianao koa no horosoana ny kapoaka, ka ho mamo sy hitanjaka ianao.
Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of 'Uz: also unto thee shall the cup pass; thou wilt be drunken, and make thyself naked.
22 Tsy misy intsony ny helokao, ry Ziona zanakavavy, tsy ho entina ho babo intsony ianao; Hamaly anao Izy, ry Edoma zanakavavy, noho ny helokao ka hampiseho ny fahotanao.
Brought to an end is thy iniquity, O daughter of Zion; He will no more carry thee away into exile: He visiteth thy iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He layeth open thy sins.
