< Mpitsara 9 >
1 Ary Abimeleka, zanak’ i Jerobala, dia nandeha nankany Sekema tany amin’ ny anadahin-dreniny ka niresaka taminy sy tamin’ izay rehetra isan’ ny fianakavian-dreniny nanao hoe:
And Abimelech the son of Jerobaal went to Sichem to his mother’s brethren and spoke to them, and to all the kindred of his mother’s father, saying:
2 Mba mitenena ianareo eo anatrehan’ ny mponina rehetra eto Sekema hoe: Iza no tsara ho anareo: ny hiarahan’ izy fito-polo lahy zanak’ i Jerobala manjaka aminareo va, sa ny hanjakan’ ny lehilahy iray? Koa tsarovy fa taolanareo sy nofonareo aho.
Speak to all the men of Sichem: whether is better for you that seventy men all the sons of Jerobaal should rule over you, or that one man should rule over you? And withal consider that I am your bone, and your flesh.
3 Ary ny anadahin-dreniny nilaza azy teo anatrehan’ ny mponina rehetra tao Sekema ka nanao izany teny rehetra izany; koa ny fon’ ireo dia ta-hanaraka an’ i Abimeleka, fa hoy izy: Rahalahintsika izy.
And his mother’s brethren spoke of him to all the men of Sichem, all these words, and they inclined their hearts after Abimelech, saying: He is our brother:
4 Dia nomeny sekely volafotsy fito-polo avy tao an-tranon’ i Bala-berita izy, ary nanambazan’ i Abimeleka olom-poana sy marivo salosana izany, ka dia nanaraka azy ireo.
And they gave him seventy weight of silver out of the temple of Baalberith: wherewith he hired to himself men that were needy, and vagabonds, and they followed him.
5 Dia nankany an-tranon-drainy tany Ofra izy ka namono ny rahalahiny fito-polo lahy, zanak’ i Jerobala, teo ambonin’ ny vato iray; ary Jotama, faralahin’ i Jerobala, no sisa velona, satria niery izy.
And he came to his father’s house in Ephra, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerobaal, seventy men, upon one stone: and there remained only Joatham the youngest son of Jerobaal, who was hidden.
6 Dia nivory ny mponina rehetra tao Sekema sy ny olona rehetra tao Milo ka nandeha nampanjaka an’ i Abimeleka teo anilan’ ny hazo terebinta, akaikin’ ny tsangambato any Sekema.
And all the men of Sichem were gathered together, and all the families of the city of Mello: and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak that stood in Sichem.
7 Ary nisy nilaza izany tamin’ i Jotama, dia nandeha izy ka nitsangana teo an-tampon’ ny tendrombohitra Gerizima, ary nanandratra ny feony ka niantso hoe: Mihainoa, ahy ianareo mponina ao Sekema mba hihainoan’ Andriamanitra anareo kosa.
This being told to Joatham, he went and stood on the top of mount Garizim: and lifting up his voice, he cried, and said: Hear me, ye men of Sichem, so may God hear you.
8 Niainga, hono, ny hazo hanosotra mpanjaka hanjaka aminy; ka hoy izy tamin’ ny oliva: Manjaka aminay ianao.
The trees went to anoint a king over them: and they said to the olive tree: Reign thou over us.
9 Fa hoy ny oliva taminy: Ho foiko va ny diloiloko, izay ankalazan’ ireny andriamanitra sy ny olona ahy, ka handeha hitsingevingevina erỳ ambony hazo aho?
And it answered: Can I leave my fatness, which both gods and men make use of, to come to be promoted among the trees?
10 Ary hoy ny hazo tamin’ ny aviavy: Avia ianao ka manjakà aminay.
And the trees said to the fig tree: Come thou and reign over us.
11 Dia hoy ny aviavy taminy: Ho foiko va ny fahamamiako sy ny vokatro tsara, ka handeha hitsingevingevina erỳ ambony hazo aho?
And it answered them: Can I leave my sweetness, and my delicious fruits, and go to be promoted among the other trees?
12 Dia hoy ny hazo tamin’ ny voaloboka: Avia ianao, ka manjakà aminay.
And the trees said to the vine: Come thou and reign over us.
13 Fa hoy ny voaloboka taminy: Ho foiko va ny ranoko, izay mahafaly an’ Andriamanitra sy ny olona, ka handeha hitsingevingevina erỳ ambony hazo aho?
And it answered them: Can I forsake my wine, that cheereth God and men, and be promoted among the other trees?
14 Ary hoy ny hazo rehetra tamin’ ny tsilo: Avia ianao, ka manjakà aminay.
And all the trees said to the bramble: Come thou and reign over us.
15 Fa hoy ny tsilo tamin’ ny hazo: Raha hohosoranareo ho mpanjakanareo tokoa ary aho, dia avia ianareo ka mialofa ato amin’ ny alokaloko; fa raha tsy izany, aoka hisy afo hivoaka avy amin’ ny tsilo ka handevona ny sederan’ i Libanona.
And it answered them: If indeed you mean to make me king, come ye and rest under my shadow: but if you mean it not, let fire come out from the bramble, and devour the cedars of Libanus.
16 Koa ankehitriny, raha marina sy mahitsy ny nataonareo tamin’ ny nampanjakanareo an’ i Abimeleka, ary raha soa no nataonareo tamin’ i Jerobala sy ny taranany, ka novalianareo araka izay nataon’ ny tànany izy
Now therefore if you have done well, and without sin in appointing Abimelech king over you, and have dealt well with Jerobaal, and with his house, and have made a suitable return for the benefits of him, who fought for you,
17 (fa ny raiko niady ho anareo sady nanao ny ainy tsy ho zavatra ka namonjy anareo tamin’ ny tanan’ ny Midiana;
And exposed his life to dangers, to deliver you from the hands of Madian,
18 nefa ianareo kosa niodina tamin’ ny taranaky ny raiko androany ka namono ny zanany fito-polo lahy teo ambonin’ ny vato iray, ary Abimeleka, zanaky ny ankizivaviny, no nampanjakainareo tamin’ ny mponina ao Sekema, satria rahalahinareo izy),
And you are now risen up against my father’s house, and have killed his sons seventy men upon one stone, and have made Abimelech the son of his handmaid king over the inhabitants of Sichem, because he is your brother:
19 koa raha marina sy mahitsy ny nataonareo androany tamin’ i Jerobala sy ny zanany, dia mifalia amin’ i Abimeleka ianareo, ary aoka izy kosa hifaly aminareo.
If therefore you have dealt well, and without fault with Jerobaal, and his house, rejoice ye this day in Abimelech, and may he rejoice in you.
20 Fa raha tsy izany kosa, dia aoka hisy afo hivoaka avy amin’ i Abimeleka ka handevona ny mponina ao Sekema sy ny olona ao Milo; ary aoka koa hisy afo hivoaka avy amin’ ny mponina ao Sekema sy ny olona ao Milo ka handevona an’ i Abimeleka.
But if unjustly: let fire come out from him, and consume the inhabitants of Sichem, and the town of Mello: and let fire come out from the men of Sichem, and from the town of Mello, and devour Abimelech.
21 Dia riatra nandositra Jotama ka nankany Bera ary nitoetra teo mba hiery an’ i Abimeleka rahalahiny.
And when he had said thus he fled, and went into Bera: and dwelt there for fear of Abimelech his brother.
22 Ary rehefa nanapaka telo taona tamin’ ny Isiraely Abimeleka,
So Abimelech reigned over Israel for three years.
23 Andriamanitra dia naniraka fanahy ratsy tamin’ i Abimeleka sy ny mponina tao Sekema; ary ny mponina tao Sekema dia nivadika nahafoy an’ i Abimeleka,
And the Lord sent a very evil spirit between Abimelech and the inhabitants of Sichem: who began to detest him,
24 mba hitsingerenan’ ny loza natao tamin’ ny namonoana ny zanak’ i Jerobala fito-polo lahy ka hanody an’ i Abimeleka rahalahiny izay namono azy, sy ny mponina tao Sekema, izay nampahery ny tànany hamono ny rahalahiny.
And to leave the crime of the murder of the seventy sons of Jerobaal, and the shedding of their blood upon Abimelech their brother, and upon the rest of the princes of the Sichemites, who aided him.
25 Ary nanaovan’ ny mponina tao Sekema otrika tany an-tampon-tendrombohitra izy, dia nobaboin’ ny otrika izay rehetra nandalo tamin’ izany lalana izany; ary nolazaina tamin’ i Abimeleka izany.
And they set an ambush against him on the top of the mountains: and while they waited for his coming, they committed robberies, taking spoils of all that passed by: and it was told Abimelech.
26 Dia tonga tao Gala, zanak’ i Ebeda, sy ny rahalahiny ka nankany Sekema, ary ny mponina tao Sekema natoky azy.
And Gaal the son of Obed came with his brethren, and went over to Sichem. And the inhabitants of Sichem taking courage at his coming,
27 Dia nivoaka ho any an-tsaha izy ka nioty ny voalobony ary nanosihosy azy, dia nanao fanati-piderana ka niditra tao an-tranon’ ny andriamaniny izy, dia nihinana sy nisotro ary nanozona an’ i Abimeleka.
Went out into the fields, wasting the vineyards, and treading down the grapes: and singing and dancing they went into the temple of their god, and in their banquets and cups they cursed Abimelech.
28 Ary hoy Gala, zanak’ i Ebeda: Iza moa Abimeleka, ary iza moa Sekema, no hotompointsika? Tsy zanak’ i Jerobala va izy? ary tsy Zebola va no lefiny? Manompoa ny taranak’ i Hamora, rain’ i Sekema; fa nahoana no hanompo io isika?
And Gaal the son of Obed cried: Who is Abimelech, and what is Sichem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerobaal, and hath made Zebul his servant ruler over the men of Emor the father of Sichem? Why then shall we serve him?
29 Ary enga anie ka ho eo ambanin’ ny tanako ireto olona ireto! dia hesoriko Abimeleka. Dia hoy izy tamin’ i Abimeleka: Hamaroy ny miaramilanao ka mivoaha.
Would to God that some man would put this people under my hand, that I might remove Abimelech out of the way. And it was said to Abimelech: Gather together the multitude of an army, and come.
30 Ary rehefa ren’ i Zebola, komandin’ ny tanàna, ny tenin’ i Gala, zanak’ i Ebeda, dia nirehitra ny fahatezerany.
For Zebul the ruler of the city, hearing the words of Gaal, the son of Obed, was very angry,
31 Dia naniraka olona mangingina tany amin’ i Abimeleka izy hanao hoe: Indro, Gala, zanak’ i Ebeda, sy ny rahalahiny dia tonga ato Sekema; ary, indro, mandrendrika ny ato an-tanàna hiodina aminao izy.
And sent messengers privately to Abimelech, saying: Behold Gaal the son of Obed is come into Sichem with his brethren, and endeavoureth to set the city against thee.
32 Koa ankehitriny, miaingà alina ianao sy ny vahoaka eo aminao, ka manotreha any an-tsaha.
Arise therefore in the night with the people that is with thee and he hid in the field:
33 Ary raha maraina, raha vao miposaka ny masoandro, dia mifohaza maraina koa ianao, ka miroata hamely ny tanàna; ary, indro, raha mivoaka hiady aminao izy sy ny vahoaka eo aminy, dia ataovy aminy izay zakan’ ny tananao.
And betimes in the morning at sun rising set upon the city. And when he shall come out against thee with his people, do to him what thou shalt be able.
34 Dia niainga alina Abimeleka sy ny vahoaka rehetra teo aminy ka nanao otrika efa-toko tandrifin’ i Sekema,
Abimelech therefore arose with all his army by night, and laid ambushes near Sichem in four places.
35 Dia nivoaka Gala, zanak’ i Ebeda, ka nijanona teo anoloan’ ny vavahadin’ ny tanàna; dia niroatra avy tao am-panotrehana Abimeleka sy ny vahoaka teo aminy.
And Gaal the son of Obed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city. And Abimelech rose up, and all his army with him from the places of the ambushes.
36 Ary rehefa hitan’ i Gala ny olona, dia hoy izy tamin’ i Zebola: Indreo, misy olona midìna avy eny an-tampon’ ny tendrombohitra. Fa hoy Zebola taminy: Ny aloky ny tendrombohitra no hitanao ka toa olona.
And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul: Behold a multitude cometh down from the mountains. And he answered him: Thou seest the shadows of the mountains as if they were the heads of men, and this is thy mistake.
37 Dia niteny indray Gala ka nanao hoe: Indreo, misy olona eo amin’ ny havoana, ary, indreo misy, antokony hafa mandeha amin’ ny lalana eo amin’ ny hazo terebinta Meonenima.
Again Gaal said: Behold there cometh people down from the middle of the land, and one troop cometh by the way that looketh towards the oak.
38 Dia hoy Zebola taminy: Aiza ny vavanao izay niteny hoe: Iza moa Abimeleka, no hotompointsika? Tsy ireo va no olona izay nohamavoinao? Mivoaha ankehitriny ka miadia aminy.
And Zebul said to him: Where is now thy mouth wherewith thou saidst? Who is Abimelech that we should serve him? Is not this the people which thou didst despise? Go out, and fight against him.
39 Dia nivoaka teo anoloan’ ny mponina tao Sekema Gala ka niady tamin’ i Abimeleka.
So Gaal went out in the sight of the people of Sichem, and fought against Abimelech,
40 Dia nanenjika azy Abimeleka, ary nandositra teo anoloany izy, ka maro ny faty niampatrampatra hatreny anoloan’ ny vavahady aza.
Who chased and put him to flight, and drove him to the city: and many were slain of his people, even to the gate of the city:
41 Ary Abimeleka nonina tany Aroma; ary Zebola nandroaka an’ i Gala sy ny rahalahiny mba tsy honina any Sekema intsony.
And Abimelech sat down in Ruma: but Zebul drove Gaal, and his companions out of the city, and would not suffer them to abide in it.
42 Ary nony ampitson’ iny dia nivoaka ho ratsy any an-tsaha ny olona; ary nolazaina tamin’ i Abimeleka izany,
So the day following the people went out into the field. And it was told Abimelech.
43 Dia naka ny vahoaka izy ka nizara azy ho telo toko ary nanotrika tany an-tsaha; dia nijery izy, ka, indreo, ny olona nivoaka avy tao an-tanàna; dia nitsangana hiady aminy izy ka namely azy.
And he took his army, and divided it into three companies, and laid ambushes in the fields. And seeing that the people came out of the city, he arose and set upon them,
44 Ary Abimeleka sy ny antokony izay teo aminy dia niroatra ka nitsangana teo anoloan’ ny vavahadin-tanàna; ary ny roa toko kosa niroatra namely ny vahoaka rehetra tany an-tsaha ka namono azy.
With his own company, assaulting and besieging the city: whilst the two other companies chased the enemies that were scattered about the field.
45 Ary Abimeleka namely ny tanàna mandritra izany andro izany, dia nahafaka ny tanàna ka namono ny olona tao; ary noravany ny tanàna sady nofafazany sira.
And Abimelech assaulted the city all that day: and took it, and killed the inhabitants thereof, and demolished it, so that he sowed salt in it.
46 Ary nony nandre izany ny olona rehetra tao amin’ ny tilikambo tao Sekema, dia niditra tao amin’ ny efi-trano fierena tao an-tranon’ i Berita andriamaniny izy.
And when they who dwelt in the tower of Sichem had heard this, they went into the temple of their god Berith where they had made a covenant with him, and from thence the place had taken its name, and it was exceeding strong.
47 Ary nolazaina tamin’ i Abimeleka fa tafangona tao amin’ ny tilikambo tao Sekema ny olona rehetra.
Abimelech also hearing that the men of the tower of Sichem were gathered together,
48 Ary Abimeleka sy ny vahoaka teo aminy dia niakatra tany an-tendrombohitra Zalmona; ary Abimeleka nitondra famaky teny an-tànany, dia nikapa sampan-kazo, ka nobetainy izany, dia nolanjainy teny an-tsorony, ary hoy izy tamin’ ny vahoaka teo aminy: Izay hitanareo ataoko, dia mba manaova faingana toy izany koa ianareo.
Went up into mount Selmon he and all his people with him: and taking an axe, he cut down the bough of a tree, and laying it on his shoulder and carrying it, he said to his companions: What you see me do, do you out of hand.
49 Koa samy nikapa sampan-kazo avy ny vahoaka rehetra ka nanaraka an’ i Abimeleka, dia nametraka izany teo an-trano fiarovana ka nandoro azy tamin’ ny afo, raha mbola tao ny olona, ka maty koa ny olona rehetra tao amin’ ny tilikambo tao Sekema, na lehilahy na vehivavy, tokony ho arivo no isany.
So they cut down boughs from the trees, every man as fast as he could, and followed their leader. And surrounding the fort they set it on fire: and so it came to pass that with the smoke and with the fire a thousand persons were killed, men and women together, of the inhabitants of the tower of Sichem.
50 Dia nandeha Abimeleka nankany Tebeza ary nitoby tandrifin’ i Tebeza ka nahafaka azy.
Then Abimelech departing from thence came to the town of Thebes, which he surrounded and besieged with his army.
51 Fa nisy tilikambo mafy tao anatin’ ny tanàna, ka nandositra tao ny lehilahy rehetra sy ny vehivavy ary izay rehetra tao an-tanàna ka nihidy tao, dia niakatra teo an-tampon’ ny tilikambo izy.
And there was in the midst of the city a high tower, to which both the men and the women were fled together, and all the princes of the city, and having shut and strongly barred the gate, they stood upon the battlements of the tower to defend themselves.
52 Ary Abimeleka nankany amin’ ny tilikambo ka namely azy, dia nanatona ny varavaran’ ny tilikambo izy handoro azy amin’ ny afo.
And Abimelech coming near the tower, fought stoutly: and approaching to the gate, endeavoured to set fire to it:
53 Fa nisy vehivavy anankiray, nanjera vato fikosoham-bary tamin’ ny lohan’ i Abimeleka ka nahavaky ny karan-dohany.
And behold a certain woman casting a piece of a millstone from above, dashed it against the head of Abimelech, and broke his skull.
54 Dia nantsoin’ i Abimeleka faingana ny zatovo, mpitondra ny fiadiany, ka hoy izy taminy: Tsoahy ny sabatrao, ka vonoy aho, mba tsy hanaovan’ ny olona ahy hoe: Vehivavy no nahafaty azy. Dia namely azy miboroaka ilay zatovo, ka maty izy.
And he called hastily to his armourbearer, and said to him: Draw thy sword, and kill me: lest it should be said that I was slain by a woman. He did as he was commanded, and slew him.
55 Ary rehefa hitan’ ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely fa maty Abimeleka, dia samy lasa nandeha ho any amin’ ny fonenany avy izy.
And when he was dead, all the men of Israel that were with him, returned to their homes.
56 Izany no namalian’ Andriamanitra ny ratsy nataon’ i Abimeleka, izay efa nataony tamin’ ny rainy tamin’ ny namonoany ny rahalahiny fito-polo lahy.
And God repaid the evil, that Abimelech had done against his father, killing his seventy brethren.
57 Ary ny ratsy rehetra nataon’ ny mponina tao Sekema dia natsingerin’ Andriamanitra tamin’ ny lohany avokoa, ka dia nihatra taminy ilay fanozonana nataon’ i Jotama, zanak’ i Jerobala.
The Sichemites also were rewarded for what they had done, and the curse of Joatham the son of Jerobaal came upon them.
