< Mpitsara 20 >
1 Dia nivoaka ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, ary ny fiangonana hatrany Dana ka hatrany Beri-sheba ary ny tany Gileada koa nivory tahaka ny olona iray ho any amin’ i Jehovah tany Mizpa.
Then all the children of Israel went out and gathered together as one man from Dan to Bersabee, with the land of Galaad, to the Lord in Maspha:
2 Ary ny loholona rehetra tamin’ ny firenen’ Isiraely niseho teo amin’ ny fiangonan’ ny olon’ Andriamanitra, dia lehilahy efatra hetsy mandeha tongotra sady mahatan-tsabatra.
And all the chiefs of the people, and all the tribes of Israel met together in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen fit for war.
3 Ary ren’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina fa niakatra ho any Mizpa ny Zanak’ Isiraely. Dia hoy ny Zanak’ Isiraely: Lazao izay nahatonga izao ratsy izao.
(Nor were the children of Benjamin ignorant that the children of Israel were come up to Maspha.) And the Levite the husband of the woman that was killed, being asked, how so great a wickedness had been committed,
4 Dia namaly ilay Levita, vadin-dravehivavy novonoina, ka nanao hoe: Tonga tany Gibea, izay an’ ny Benjamita, izaho sy ny vaditsindranoko handry tao.
Answered: I came into Gabaa of Benjamin with my wife, and there I lodged:
5 Dia nitsangana hamely ahy ny mponina tao Gibea ka nanodidina ny trano hamely ahy tamin’ ny alina; izaho saiky novonoiny, ary ny vaditsindranoko nandriany ka matiny.
And behold the men of that city in the night beset the house wherein I was, intending to kill me, and abused my wife with an incredible fury of lust, so that at last she died.
6 Dia nalaiko ny vaditsindranoko ka norasaiko ary nampitondraiko tany amin’ ny tany rehetra izay lovan’ ny Isiraely, satria efa nanao fahavetavetana sy zavatra fady indrindra teo amin’ ny Isiraely ireo.
And I took her and cut her in pieces, and sent the, parts into all the borders of your possession: because there never was so heinous a crime, and so great an abomination committed in Israel.
7 Koa indreto ianareo Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, mba alaharo izay teny sy hevitrareo.
You are all here, O children of Israel, determine what you ought to do.
8 Dia nitsangana tahaka ny olona iray ny vahoaka rehetra ka nanao hoe: Tsy hisy hankany amin’ ny laintsika akory isika, ary tsy hisy hody any an-tranontsika akory.
And all the people standing, answered as by the voice of one man: We will not return to our tents, neither shall any one of us go into his own house:
9 Fa ankehitriny, izao no hataontsika amin’ i Gibea: araka ny filokana no aoka hanaovantsika azy.
But this we will do in common against Gabaa:
10 Ary haka folo lahy isan-jato amin’ ny firenen’ Isiraely rehetra isika, dia zato amin’ ny arivo, ary arivo amin’ ny iray alina, mba haka vatsy ho an’ ny olona, ka rehefa tonga any Gibean’ ny Benjamina izy, dia araka ilay zavatra fady indrindra efa nataony teo amin’ ny Isiraely no hataony aminy.
We will take ten men of a hundred out of all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to bring victuals for the army, that we might fight against Gabaa of Benjamin, and render to it for its wickedness, what it deserveth.
11 Dia nivory ny lehilahy rehetra amin’ ny Isiraely ka efa nikambana tahaka ny olona iray hamely ny tanàna.
And all Israel were gathered together against the city, as one man, with one mind, and one counsel:
12 Ary ny firenen’ Isiraely dia naniraka olona tany amin’ ny firenen’ i Benjamina rehetra hanao hoe: Inona izao ratsy natao teto aminareo izao?
And they sent messengers to all the tribe of Benjamin to say to them: Why hath so great an abomination been found among you?
13 Koa ankehitriny atolory anay ireo olona tena ratsy fanahy avy any Gibea ireo, mba hataonay maty izy, ka hesorinay tsy ho eo amin’ ny Isiraely ny ratsy. Fa ny taranak’ i Benjamina tsy nety nihaino ny feon’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely rahalahiny.
Deliver up the men of Gabaa, that have committed this heinous crime, that they may die, and the evil may be taken away out of Israel. But they would not hearken to the proposition of their brethren the children of Israel:
14 Ary nivory ny taranak’ i Benjamina avy tamin’ ny tanànany rehetra hankany Gibea mba handeha hiady amin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely.
But out of all the cities which were of their lot, they gathered themselves together into Gabaa, to aid them, and to fight against the whole people of Israel.
15 Dia voalamina tamin’ izany andro izany ny taranak’ i Benjamina avy tamin’ ireo tanàna ireo, ka enina arivo sy roa alin-dahy nahatan-tsabatra, afa-tsy ny mponina tao Gibea izay voalamina, dia fiton-jato lahy voafantina.
And there were found of Benjamin five and twenty thousand men that drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gabaa,
16 Ary teo amin’ izany olona rehetra izany nisy olona kavia fiton-jato lahy nofantenany, samy nahay nitoraka tamin’ ny antsamotady, ka tsy nisy nivena na dia hoatra ny singam-bolo aza.
Who were seven hundred most valiant men, fighting with the left hand as well as with the right: and slinging stones so sure that they could hit even a hair, and not miss by the stone’s going on either side.
17 Ary ny lehilahy voalamina tamin’ ny Isiraely, afa-tsy ny Benjamina, dia efatra hetsy nahatan-tsabatra; mpanafika avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
Of the men of Israel also, beside the children of Benjamin, were found four hundred thousand that drew swords, and were prepared to fight.
18 Dia niainga ny Zanak’ Isiraely ka niakatra tany Betela ary nanontany tamin’ Andriamanitra hoe: Iza no hiakatra voalohany hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina ho anay? Dia hoy Jehovah: Joda no ho voalohany.
And they arose and came to the house of God, that is, to Silo: and they consulted God, and said: Who shall be in our army the first to go to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the Lord answered them: Let Juda be your leader.
19 Dia niainga maraina koa ny Zanak’ Isiraely ka nitoby tandrifin’ i Gibea.
And forthwith the children of Israel rising in the morning, camped by Gabaa:
20 Ary nivoaka ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely hiady amin’ ny Benjamita; ary nilahatra ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely hiady aminy tao akaiky an’ i Gibea.
And going out from thence to fight against Benjamin, began to assault the city.
21 Ary nivoaka avy tany Gibea kosa ny taranak’ i Benjamina ka naharingana ny Zanak’ Isiraely roa arivo sy roa alin-dahy niampatrampatra tamin’ ny tany tamin’ izany andro izany.
And the children of Benjamin coming out of Gabaa, slew of the children of Israel that day two and twenty thousand men.
22 Fa nifanome toky ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely ka nilahatra hiady indray teo amin’ ilay nilaharany tamin’ ny andro voalohany.
Again Israel trusting in their strength and their number, set their army in array in the same place, where they had fought before:
23 Ary niakatra ny Zanak’ Isiraely ka nitomany teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah mandra-paharivan’ ny andro, dia nanontany tamin’ i Jehovah hoe: Handroso indray va aho hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina rahalahiko? Ary hoy Jehovah: Miakara hiady aminy.
Yet so that they first went up and wept before the Lord until night: and consulted him, and said: Shall I go out any more to fight against the children of Benjamin my brethren, or not? And he answered them: Go up against them, and join battle.
24 Ary ny Zanak’ Isiraely dia nandroso tamin’ ny andro faharoa hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina.
And when the children of Israel went out the next day to fight against the children of Benjamin,
25 Dia nivoaka avy tany Gibea ny Benjamita hiady aminy indray tamin’ ny andro faharoa ka naharingana ny Zanak’ Isiraely valo arivo sy iray alin-dahy niampatrampatra tamin’ ny tany; nahatan-tsabatra avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
The children of Benjamin sallied forth out of the gates of Gabaa: and meeting them made so great a slaughter of them, as to kill eighteen thousand men that drew the sword.
26 Dia niakatra ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra sy ny olona rehetra ka nankany Betela, dia nitomany sy nipetraka teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah ary nifady hanina tamin’ izany andro izany mandra-paharivan’ ny andro; ary nanatitra fanatitra dorana sy fanati-pihavanana teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah izy.
Wherefore all the children of Israel came to the house of God, and sat and wept before the Lord: and they fasted that day till the evening, and offered to him holocausts, and victims of peace offerings,
27 Dia nanontany tamin’ i Jehovah ny Zanak’ Isiraely (fa tao ny fiaran’ ny faneken’ Andriamanitra tamin’ izany andro izany,
And inquired of him concerning their state. At that time the ark of the covenant of the Lord was there,
28 ary Finehasa, zanak’ i Eleazara, zanak’ i Arona, nijanona teo anoloany tamin’ izany andro izany) ka nanao hoe: Mbola hivoaka indray va aho hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina rahalahiko, sa hitsahatra? Ary hoy Jehovah: Miakara, fa rahampitso dia hatolotro ho eo an-tananao izy.
And Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron was over the house. So they consulted the Lord and said: Shall we go out any more to fight against the children of Benjamin our brethren, or shall we cease? And the Lord said to them: Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hands.
29 Ary nasian’ ny Isiraely otrika manodidina an’ i Gibea.
And the children of Israel set ambushes round about the city of Gabaa:
30 Dia niakatra ny Zanak’ Isiraely tamin’ ny andro fahatelo hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina ka nilahatra tandrifin’ i Gibea tahaka ilay teo aloha ihany.
And they drew up their army against Benjamin the third time, as they had done the first and second.
31 Dia nivoaka ny taranak’ i Benjamina hiady tamin’ ny olona ka voatarika niala tamin’ ny tanàna izy ary nanomboka namely sy nahafaty ny olona tahaka ny teo aloha, dia tokony ho telo-polo lahy teo amin’ ny Isiraely tany an-tsampanan-dalana, miakatra ho any Betela ny anankiray, ary ny anankiray kosa ho any Gibea any an-tsaha.
And the children of Benjamin boldly issued out of the city, and seeing their enemies flee, pursued them a long way, so as to wound and kill some of them, as they had done the first and second day, whilst they fled by two highways, whereof one goeth up to Bethel, and the other to Gabaa, and they slew about thirty men:
32 Ary hoy ny taranak’ i Benjamina: Resy eo anoloantsika tahaka ilay teo aloha ihany izy. Fa hoy ny Zanak’ Isiraely: Andeha hanao tari-dositra isika mba hampiala azy amin’ ny tanàna ho any an-dalambe.
For they thought to cut them off, as they did before. But they artfully feigning a flight, designed to draw them away from the city, and by their seeming to flee to bring them to the highways aforesaid.
33 Ary ny lehilahy rehetra amin’ ny Isiraely nitsangana niala tamin’ ny fitoerany ka nilahatra tany Bala-tamara; ary ny Isiraely izay nanotrika dia niroatra avy tamin’ fitoerany, avy tao an-tsahan’ i Gibea.
Then all the children of Israel rising up out of the places where they were, set their army in battle array, in the place which is called Baalthamar. The ambushes also which were about the city, began by little and little to come forth,
34 Ary tonga tandrifin’ i Gibea ny iray alin-dahy voafantina tamin’ ny Isiraely rehetra, ary efa mafy ny ady nefa tsy fantatry ny Benjamita fa efa hiharan-doza izy.
And to march from the west side of the city. And other ten thousand men chosen out of all Israel attacked the inhabitants of the city. And the battle grew hot against the children of Benjamin: and they understood not that present death threatened them on every side.
35 Ary Jehovah namely ny Benjamita teo anoloan’ ny Isiraely, ary tamin’ izany andro izany ny taranak’ i Benjamina dia nahafatesan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely zato sy dimy arivo amby roa alin-dahy; nahatan-tsabatra avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
And the Lord defeated them before the children of Israel, and they slew of them in that day five and twenty thousand, and one hundred, all fighting men and that drew the sword.
36 Ary hitan’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina fa resy izy; ary ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely nanao tari-dositra tamin’ ny Benjamita, satria natoky ny otrika izay efa napetrany teo akaikin’ i Gibea izy.
But the children of Benjamin when they saw themselves to be too weak, began to flee. Which the children of Israel seeing, gave them place to flee, that they might come to the ambushes that were prepared, which they had set near the city.
37 Ary ny otrika niroatra faingana hankany Gibea, dia nandeha faingana ka namely ny tanàna rehetra tamin’ ny lelan-tsabatra.
And they that were in ambush arose on a sudden out of their coverts, and whilst Benjamin turned their backs to the slayers, went into the city, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
38 Ary ny famantarana nifaneken’ ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely sy ny otrika dia tsangan’ afo lehibe hisavoana ao an-tanàna.
Now the children of Israel had given a sign to them, whom they had laid in ambushes, that after they had taken the city, they should make a fire: that by the smoke rising on high, they might shew that the city was taken.
39 Ary nirona tamin’ ny ady ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely (ny taranak’ i Benjamina nanomboka namely sy nahafaty ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely tokony ho telo-polo lahy; fa hoy izy: Resy tokoa eo anoloantsika izy tahaka ny tamin’ ny ady voalohany;
And when the children of Israel saw this in the battle (for the children of Benjamin thought they fled and pursued them vigorously, killing thirty men of their army)
40 fa raha vao niakatra avy tao amin’ ny tanàna ny setroka mitankosina, dia niherika ny taranak’ i Benjamina; ary, indro, niakatra ho amin’ ny lanitra avokoa ny setroky ny tanàna).
And perceived as it were a pillar of smoke rise up from the city; and Benjamin looking back, saw that the city was taken, and that the flames ascended on high:
41 Ary raha niverina ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely, dia talanjona ny Benjamita, satria hitany fa efa nidiran-doza izy.
They that before had made as if they fled, turning their faces stood bravely against them; which the children of Benjamin seeing, turned their backs,
42 Dia niamboho teo anoloan’ ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely hankany amin’ ny lalana ho any an-efitra izy, fa ny ady nahatratra azy: ary izay nivoaka avy tao amin’ ny tanàna koa dia novonoiny teo.
And began to go towards the way of the desert, the enemy pursuing them thither also. And they that fired the city came also out to meet them.
43 Nanemitra ny Benjamita izy ka nanenjika azy ary nanitsaka azy mora foana tandrifin’ i Gibea atsinanany.
And so it was, that they were slain on both sides by the enemies, and there was no rest of their men dying. They fell and were beaten down on the east side of the city Gabaa.
44 Ary ny Benjamita dia nahafatesany valo arivo sy iray alin-dahy; lehilahy nahery avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
And they that were slain in the same place were eighteen thousand men, all most valiant soldiers.
45 Dia nivily sy sisa ka nandositra nankany an-efitra ho any amin’ ny harambato any Rimona; ary ny voatsimpona teny an-dalana dia dimy arivo lahy, ary ny voatsimpona teny an-dalana dia dimy arivo lahy, ary mbola nenjehiny mafy ihany hatrany Gidoma izy ka nahafatesany roa arivo lahy.
And when they that remained of Benjamin saw this, they fled into the wilderness and made towards the rock that is called Remmon. In that flight, also as they were straggling and going different ways, they slew of them five thousand men. And as they went farther, they still pursued them, and slew also other two thousand.
46 Ary ny Benjamita rehetra izay lavo tamin’ izany andro izany dia dimy arivo sy roa alin-dahy nahatan-tsabatra; lehilahy nahery avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
And so it came to pass, that all that were slain of Benjamin in divers places, were five and twenty thousand fighting men, most valiant for war.
47 Fa nisy enin-jato lahy nihodina ka nandositra nankany an-efitra ho any amin’ ny harambato any Rimona, dia nitoetra tao efa-bolana.
And there remained of all the number of Benjamin only six hundred men that were able to escape, and flee to the wilderness: and they abode in the rock Remmon four months.
48 Ary ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely niverina indray tany amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina ka namely azy tamin’ ny lelan-tsabatra, hatramin’ ny olona tao an-tanàna ka hatramin’ ny biby fiompy ary izay hitany dia nodorany tamin’ ny afo avokoa.
But the children of Israel returning, put all the remains of the city to the sword, both men and beasts, and all the cities and villages of Benjamin were consumed with devouring flames.
