< Jaona 1 >
1 Tamin’ ny voalohany ny Teny, ary ny Teny tao amin’ Andriamanitra, ary ny Teny dia Andriamanitra.
In [the] beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Izy dia tao amin’ Andriamanitra tamin’ ny voalohany.
He was in the beginning with God.
3 Izy no nahariana ny zavatra rehetra; ary raha tsy Izy dia tsy nisy nahariana izao zavatra ary izao, na dia iray aza.
All things received being through him, and without him not one [thing] received being which has received being.
4 Izy no nisiam-piainana; ary ny fiainana no fanazavana ny olona.
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 Ary ny mazava dia mamirapiratra ao amin’ ny maizina; fa ny maizina tsy nandray azy.
And the light appears in darkness, and the darkness apprehended it not.
6 Nisy lehilahy nirahin’ Andriamanitra, Jaona no anarany.
There was a man sent from God, his name John.
7 Izy tonga ho vavolombelona hanambara ny Mazava, mba hinoan’ ny olona rehetra noho ny teniny.
He came for witness, that he might witness concerning the light, that all might believe through him.
8 Tsy izy anefa no Ilay Mazava, fa tonga ho vavolombelona hanambara ny Mazava ihany izy.
He was not the light, but that he might witness concerning the light.
9 Tao ny tena Mazava Izay mahazava ny olona rehetra tonga amin’ izao tontolo izao.
The true light was that which, coming into the world, lightens every man.
10 Teo amin’ izao tontolo izao Izy, ary Izy no nanaovana izao tontolo izao, nefa izao tontolo izao tsy nahalala Azy.
He was in the world, and the world had [its] being through him, and the world knew him not.
11 Tonga tany amin’ ny Azy Izy, fa ny Azy tsy nandray Azy.
He came to his own, and his own received him not;
12 Fa izay rehetra nandray Azy dia nomeny hery ho tonga zanak’ Andriamanitra, dia izay mino ny anarany,
but as many as received him, to them gave he [the] right to be children of God, to those that believe on his name;
13 dia ireo izay tsy nateraky ny rà, na ny sitrapon’ ny nofo, na ny sitrapon’ ny olona, fa naterak’ Andriamanitra.
who have been born, not of blood, nor of flesh's will, nor of man's will, but of God.
14 Ary ny Teny dia tonga nofo ka nonina tamintsika; ary hitanay ny voninahiny, dia voninahitra miendrika ho an’ ny Lahitokana avy tamin’ ny Ray, sady feno fahasoavana sy fahamarinana.
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we have contemplated his glory, a glory as of an only-begotten with a father), full of grace and truth;
15 Jaona nanambara Azy ka niantso hoe: Izy Ilay nolazaiko hoe: Izay avy
(John bears witness of him, and he has cried, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that comes after me is preferred before me, for he was before me; )
16 Fa tamin’ ny fahafenoany no nandraisantsika rehetra, dia fahasoavana anampy fahasoavana.
for of his fulness we all have received, and grace upon grace.
17 Fa ny lalàna dia nomena tamin’ ny alalan’ i Mosesy; fa ny fahasoavana sy ny fahamarinana kosa dia tonga tamin’ ny alalan’ i Jesosy Kristy.
For the law was given by Moses: grace and truth subsists through Jesus Christ.
18 Tsy nisy nahita an’ Andriamanitra na oviana na oviana; fa ny Zanakalahy Tokana, Izay ao an-tratran’ ny Ray, Izy no nanambara Azy.
No one has seen God at any time; the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].
19 Ary izao no nambaran’ i Jaona, raha ny Jiosy naniraka mpisorona sy Levita avy tany Jerosalema hankany aminy mba hanontany azy hoe: Iza moa ianao?
And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites that they might ask him, Thou, who art thou?
20 Ary nilaza marina izy ka tsy nandà, fa hoy ny filàzany: Tsy izaho no Kristy.
And he acknowledged and denied not, and acknowledged, I am not the Christ.
21 Ary izy ireo nanontany azy hoe: Ahoana ary? Elia va ianao? Fa hoy izy: Tsy izy aho. Ilay Mpaminany va ianao? Fa izy namaly hoe: Tsia.
And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he says, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.
22 Dia hoy ireo taminy: Iza ary ianao? mba hitondranay valiny ho any amin’ izay naniraka anay. Lazainao ho iza moa ny tenanao?
They said therefore to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23 Dia hoy izy: Izaho dia feon’ ny miantso mafy any an-efitra hoe: Ataovy mahitsy ny lalan’ i Jehovah, araka izay nolazain’ Isaia mpaminany.
He said, I [am] [the] voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the path of [the] Lord, as said Esaias the prophet.
24 Ary iraka avy tamin’ ny Fariseo ireo.
And they were sent from among the Pharisees.
25 Dia nanontany azy ireo ka nanao taminy hoe: Nahoana ary ianao no manao batisa raha tsy ianao no Kristy, na Elia, na Ilay Mpaminany?
And they asked him and said to him, Why baptisest thou then, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet?
26 Jaona namaly azy ka nanao hoe: Izaho manao batisa amin’ ny rano; fa eto aminareo misy Anankiray Izay tsy fantatrareo,
John answered them saying, I baptise with water. In the midst of you stands, whom ye do not know,
27 dia Ilay avy ao aoriako, ary tsy miendrika hamaha ny fehin-kapany aza aho.
he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to unloose.
28 Izany zavatra izany dia natao tany Betania any an-dafin’ i Jordana, izay nanaovan’ i Jaona batisa.
These things took place in Bethany, across the Jordan, where John was baptising.
29 Nony ampitso dia nahita an’ i Jesosy avy manatona azy Jaona, ka dia hoy izy: Indro ny Zanak’ ondrin’ Andriamanitra, Izay manaisotra ny fahotan’ izao tontolo izao!
On the morrow he sees Jesus coming to him, and says, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
30 Izy Ilay nolazaiko hoe: Misy Lehilahy avy ao aoriako Izay efa tonga eo alohako, satria talohako Izy.
He it is of whom I said, A man comes after me who takes a place before me, because he was before me;
31 Ary izaho tsy nahalala Azy; fa mba haseho amin’ ny Isiraely Izy, izany no nihaviako manao batisa amin’ ny rano.
and I knew him not; but that he might be manifested to Israel, therefore have I come baptising with water.
32 Ary Jaona nanambara ka nanao hoe: Izaho nahita ny Fanahy midìna avy any an-danitra tahaka ny voro-mailala ka nitoetra teo amboniny.
And John bore witness, saying, I beheld the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon him.
33 Ary izaho tsy nahalala Azy; fa Izay naniraka ahy hanao batisa amin’ ny rano no nilaza tamiko hoe: Izay ho hitanao idinan’ ny Fanahy sy itoerany, dia Izy no Mpanao batisa amin’ ny Fanahy Masìna.
And I knew him not; but he who sent me to baptise with water, he said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, he it is who baptises with [the] Holy Spirit.
34 Ary nahita aho, ka dia nanambara fa Izy no Zanak’ Andriamanitra.
And I have seen and borne witness that this is the Son of God.
35 Nony ampitson’ iny indray dia nijanona Jaona sy ny mpianany roa lahy;
Again, on the morrow, there stood John and two of his disciples.
36 ary nijery an’ i Jesosy nitsangantsangana izy ka nanao hoe: Indro ny Zanak’ ondrin’ Andriamanitra!
And, looking at Jesus as he walked, he says, Behold the Lamb of God.
37 Ary ireo mpianatra roa lahy ireo, rehefa nandre azy niteny, dia nanaraka an’ i Jesosy.
And the two disciples heard him speaking, and followed Jesus.
38 Ary Jesosy nitodika ka nahita azy manaraka, dia nanao taminy hoe: Inona no tadiavinareo? Ary hoy izy roa lahy taminy: Raby (izay atao hoe, raha adika, Mpampianatra ô), aiza Hianao no mitoetra?
But Jesus having turned, and seeing them following, says to them, What seek ye? And they said to him, Rabbi (which, being interpreted, signifies Teacher), where abidest thou?
39 Hoy Izy taminy: Avia, fa ho hitanareo. Koa dia nandeha izy ka nahita izay nitoerany ary nitoetra teo aminy tamin’ izany andro izany; ary efa tokony ho ora fahafolo tamin’ izay.
He says to them, Come and see. They went therefore, and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.
40 Andrea, rahalahin’ i Simona Petera, no anankiray tamin’ izy roa lahy, izay nandre ny tenin’ i Jaona ka nanaraka an’ i Jesosy.
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard [this] from John and followed him.
41 Izy no nahita an’ i Simona rahalahiny aloha, dia hoy izy taminy: Efa nahita ny Mesia izahay (izay atso hoe, raha adika, ny Kristy).
He first finds his own brother Simon, and says to him, We have found the Messias (which being interpreted is Christ).
42 Dia nitondra azy ho any amin’ i Jesosy izy. Ary nony nijery azy Jesosy, dia hoy Izy: Hianao no Simona, zanak’ i Jaona; ianao hatao hoe Kefasy (izay atao hoe, raha adika, Petera)
And he led him to Jesus. Jesus looking at him said, Thou art Simon, the son of Jonas; thou shalt be called Cephas (which interpreted is stone).
43 Nony ampitso dia te-hiala ho any Galilia Jesosy, ary nahita an’ i Filipo Izy ka nanao taminy hoe: Manaraha Ahy.
On the morrow he would go forth into Galilee, and Jesus finds Philip, and says to him, Follow me.
44 Ary Filipo dia avy any Betsaida, tanànan’ i Andrea sy Petera.
And Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Filipo kosa nahita an’ i Natanaela ka nanao taminy hoe: Efa hitanay Ilay nosoratan’ i Mosesy tao amin’ ny lalàna, sy nosoratan’ ny mpaminany, dia Jesosy, zanak’ i Josefa, avy any Nazareta.
Philip finds Nathanael, and says to him, We have found him of whom Moses wrote in the law, and the prophets, Jesus, the son of Joseph, who is from Nazareth.
46 Ary hoy Natanaela taminy: Moa mba misy zava-tsoa va avy any Nazareta? Dia hoy Filipo taminy: Andeha hizaha.
And Nathanael said to him, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip says to him, Come and see.
47 Jesosy nahita an’ i Natanaela avy manatona Azy, dia nilaza azy hoe: Indro ny tena Isiraelita tsy misy fitaka.
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and says of him, Behold [one] truly an Israelite, in whom there is no guile.
48 Hoy Natanaela taminy: Ahoana no ahafantaranao ahy? Dia namaly Jesosy ka nanao taminy hoe: Fony tsy mbola niantso anao Filipo, dia hitako teo ambanin’ ny aviavy ianao.
Nathanael says to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
49 Dia namaly Natanaela ka nanao hoe: Raby ô, Hianao no Zanak’ Andriamanitra; Hianao no Mpanjakan’ ny Isiraely.
Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesosy namaly ka nanao taminy hoe: Moa ny nilazako taminao va fa hitako teo ambanin’ ny aviavy ianao no inoanao? Hahita zavatra lehibe noho izany ianao.
Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, believest thou? Thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 Ary hoy koa Izy taminy: Lazaiko aminareo marina dia marina tokoa: Ho hitanareo ny lanitra misokatra sy ny anjelin’ Andriamanitra miakatra sy midìna eo ambonin’ ny Zanak’ olona.
And he says to him, Verily, verily, I say to you, Henceforth ye shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of man.
