Jeremia 48
1 Ny amin’ i Moaba. Izao no lazain’ i Jehovah, Tompon’ ny maro, Andriamanitry ny Isiraely: Nidiran-doza Nebo, fa rava! Mangaihay Kiriataima, fa afaka; Mangaihay Misgaba sady raiki-tahotra.
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says about Moab: Disaster is coming to the town of Nebo, because it will be destroyed. The town of Kiriathaim will be captured and humiliated; the fortress will be torn down and its people shamed.
2 Tsy misy ho reharehan’ i Moaba intsony; Tao Hesbona no niheverany hampididoza aminy hoe: Andeha horavantsika tsy ho firenena izy. Ho ringana koa ianao, ry Madmena, Hanenjika anao ny sabatra.
No one praises Moab anymore. People in Heshbon are plotting, “We will destroy Moab as a nation. People of the town of Madmen, we will silence you too—you will be attacked by swords and chased down.”
3 Injay! misy feo fitarainana ao Horonaima hoe: Fandravana sy fandringanana be!
Listen to the cries from Horonaim: “Violence and terrible destruction!”
4 Rava Moaba, ny madinika ao dia mamoaka fitarainana.
Moab will be smashed. Hear the little ones crying for help.
5 Fa miakatra mitomany lalandava eny amin’ ny fiakarana Lohita izy; Ary amin’ ny fidinana mankany Horonaima no andrenesana fitarainana mafy noho ny fandringanana.
People weep as they go up to Luhith; and as they come down to Horonaim their sad cries at the destruction echo around.
6 Mandosira, vonjeo ny ainareo. Ary aoka ho tahaka ny olona mahantra any an-efitra ianareo.
Run away! Save yourselves! Be like a scrawny tamarisk tree in the desert!
7 Fa noho ny nitokianao tamin’ ny asanao sy ny rakitrao dia ho voasambotra koa ianao; Ary Kemosy ho lasan-ko babo, dia ny mpisorony sy ny mpanapaka rehetra.
It's because you put your confidence in what you do and what you own that you too will be captured. Your god Chemosh will be taken into exile along with his priests and leaders.
8 Ary ny mpandringana ho tonga ao amin’ ny tanàna rehetra, ka tsy hisy tanàna tsy ho afaka; Ny lohasaha koa ho simba, ary ny tany lemaka ho rava, araka izay nolazain’ i Jehovah.
The invaders will attack every town; not a single one will escape destruction. The valley will be ruined, and the plain will be destroyed, for the Lord has spoken.
9 Omeo elatra Moaba, fa hanidina izy ka ho lasa; Ary ho lao ny tanànanay, ka tsy hisy mponina.
Put up gravestones in Moab, because the country will become a wasteland. Its towns will be turned into ruins where no one lives.
10 Ho voaozona anie Izay manao tsirambina foana ny asa asain’ i Jehovah atao! Eny, ho voaozona anie izay mihazona ny sabany tsy handatsa-drà!
A curse on those who don't do the Lord's work properly. A curse on those who don't use their swords to kill.
11 Moaba nandry fahizay hatry ny fony izy mbola kely ka niotrika tao amin’ ny faikany, fa tsy naidina nafindrafindra siny, ary tsy mbola lasan-ko babo izy; koa izany no aharetan’ ny tsirony ao aminy sy tsy iovan’ ny fofony.
The people of Moab have been living comfortably since the country was founded. They're like wine that hasn't been disturbed, not poured from one container to another. So the taste and fragrance remains the same. They haven't experienced exile.
12 Koa, indro, avy ny andro hanirahako mpanohoka ho any aminy, hoy Jehovah, Izay hanohoka azy ka hahafoana ny fitoeran-divainy sady hanorotoro ny sininy.
But watch out, the time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will send them “winemakers” who will pour them out like wine. They will empty out the Moabites, and smash them like jars.
13 Ary Moaba ho menatra noho ny amin’ i Kemosy toy ny nahamenaran’ ny taranak’ Isiraely noho ny amin’ i Betela tokiny.
Then the Moabites will feel let down by Chemosh, just as the people of Israel felt let down when they trusted in the golden calf idol at Bethel.
14 Ahoana no anaovanareo hoe: Lehilahy matanjaka sady mahery an’ ady izahay?
How on earth can you Moabites say, “We're heroes, strong men ready to fight in battle”?
15 Rava Moaba, fa ny tanànany dia efa nanihina. Ary ny zatovony voafantina efa nidina ho any amin’ ny famonoana. Hoy ny Mpanjaka, Jehovah, Tompon’ ny maro, no anarany.
Moab is going to be destroyed and its towns conquered. Its finest young men will be killed, declares the King, whose name is the Lord Almighty.
16 Efa antomotra ny loza hanjo an’ i Moaba, ary mimaona ny fahoriany.
Moab's doom is about to happen; destruction is rushing down on them.
17 Mitomania azy, ianareo rehetra izay manodidina azy sy ianareo rehetra izay mahalala ny anarany! Eny, manaova hoe: Indrisy! tapaka ny tehina mafy sy ny tsorakazo tsara tarehy!
Mourn for them, all you surrounding nations, everyone who knows them! Let others know how the great scepter has been smashed, the rod that once proudly ruled!
18 Ry Dibona, zanakavavy mponina, midìna miala amin’ ny voninahitrao, ka mitoera ao amin’ ny tany mangentana, fa ilay mandringana an’ i Moaba dia miakatra mamely anao sady mandrava ny fiarovanao.
Come down from your glory and sit on the dusty ground, you who live in Dibon, for Moab's destroyer will come and attack you, destroying your fortresses.
19 Ry mponina any Aroera, mijanòna eny an-dalambe, ka mitazàna, ary izay mandositra, na lehilahy na vehivavy, dia anontanio hoe: Nozoin’ inona ianareo?
Stand at the roadside and watch, you who live in Aroer. Ask the men and women who are running away to escape, “What's happened?”
20 Afa-baraka Moaba, eny, raiki-tahotra izy; Midradradradra sy mitaraina, ka ambaraonareo ao Arnona fa rava Moaba.
Moab has been humiliated because it has been defeated. Weep and wail! Shout out beside the River Arnon that Moab has been destroyed!
21 Ary ny fitsarana dia miakatra ao amin’ ny tany lemaka, dia ao Holona sy Jahaza sy Mefata
Punishment has arrived on the towns of the high plain—on Holon, Jahzah, and Mephaath,
22 Sy Dibona sy Nebo sy Beti-diblataima
on Dibon, Nebo, and Beth-diblathaim,
23 Sy Kiriataima sy Beti-gamola sy Beti-meona
on Kiriathaim, Beth-gamul, and Beth-meon,
24 Sy Keriota ary Bozra, eny, ny tanànan’ i Moaba rehetra, na ny lavitra na ny akaiky.
on Kerioth, Bozrah, and on all the towns of Moab, whether far away or nearby.
25 Voakapa ny tandrok’ i Moaba, ary tapaka koa ny sandriny, hoy Jehovah.
Moab's strength is gone; their power has been broken, declares the Lord.
26 Ataovy leony izy, fa niavonavona tamin’ i Jehovah; Moaba hihosinkosina amin’ ny loany sady mba ho tonga fihomehezana kosa.
Make the people of Moab drunk, because they defied the Lord. Then they will roll around in their own vomit, as people laugh at them.
27 Fa tsy efa nataonao ho fihomehezana va ny Isiraely? Moa hita fa naman’ ny mpangalatra va izy, no dia mihifikifika ianao isaky ny milaza azy?
Didn't you Moabites used to ridicule the Israelites? But they weren't ever found to be thieves, were they? Yet whenever you talk about them, you shake your heads in contempt.
28 Ry mponina any Moaba! ilaozy ny tanàna, ka mitoera ao amin’ ny harambato, ary aoka ho tahaka ny voromailala izay manao ny akaniny erỳ am-pitan’ ny hantsana ianao.
You people living in Moab, run from your towns, go and live among the rocks. Be like a dove nesting on the cliffs at the entrance to a ravine.
29 Ffa renay ny fiavonavonan’ i Moaba fatra-piavonavona loatra izy dia ny fireharehany sy ny fiavonavonany sy ny fiaingitrainginy ary ny avonavon’ ny fony.
We know all about how pompous Moabites are, how extremely proud and conceited they are, arrogantly thinking so highly of themselves.
30 Izaho mahalala ny fihoa-bavany sy ny fibedibediny foana, hoy Jehovah; Tsinontsinona ny ataony.
I'm well aware of how disrespectful they are, declares the Lord, but it doesn't matter. They make empty boasts, and what they do is just as empty.
31 Koa hidradradradra noho ny amin’ i Moaba aho; Eny, hitomany noho ny amin’ i Moaba rehetra aho, ary hitsetra noho ny amin’ ny mponina ao Kira-haresa ny olona.
So I will weep for Moab; I will cry out for all the Moabites; I will mourn for the people of Kir-heres.
32 Mihoatra noho ny fitomanian’ i Jazera no hitomaniako anao, ry voalobok’ i Sibma, tafita ny ranomasina ny rantsanao ary tonga hatrany amin’ ny ranomasin’ i Jazera; Ny mpandripaka dia tonga handripaka ny voankazonao masaka fahavaratra sy ny voalobokao.
will weep for you, people of the town of Sibmah with its vineyards, more than I weep for the town of Jazer. Your vines have spread to the sea, and all the way to Jazer. But the destroyer has stolen your harvest of summer fruit and grapes.
33 Ary ny hafaliana sy ny faharavoravoana nesorina tamin’ ny saha nahavokatra sy tamin’ ny tany Moaba, ary nataoko tankina ny divay tamin’ ny vata fanantazana ranom-boaloboka, tsy hisy hihoby amin’ ny fanitsakitsahana; Ny fihobiana dia tsy fihobiana akory.
There's no more celebration and happiness in Moab's orchards and fields. I have stopped the grape juice flowing from the winepresses. No one shouts for joy as they tread out the grapes. No, their shouts now are not because of joy!

Cries for help reach from Heshbon to Elealeh and all the way to Jahaz. They're shouting out from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-shelishiyah, for even the water in the Nimrim Brook has dried up.
35 Ary hatsahatro ao Moaba koa Izay miakatra hanatitra amin’ ny fitoerana avo sy izay mandoro ditin-kazo manitra ho an’ ny andriamaniny, hoy Jehovah.
I'm going to finish off those in Moab who sacrifice on the pagan high places and burn incense to their gods, declares the Lord.
36 Ary noho izany ny foko dia mitomany manao feon-tsodina noho ny amin’ i Moaba, ary ny foko mitomany manao feon-tsodina noho ny amin’ ny mponina ao Kira-haresa. Eny, noho izany dia levona ny harena be izay nohariny.
So I mourn inside like a flute playing a sad song for Moab; like a flute playing a funeral tune for the people of Kir-heres, because they've lost everything of value that they worked for.
37 Fa mibory ny loha rehetra. Ary voaharatra ny somotra rehetra, misy tetika amin’ ny tanana rehetra sy lamba fisaonana amin’ ny valahana.
As signs of their mourning, every head is shaved, every beard is trimmed, every hand has a gash, and every waist is wearing sackcloth.
38 Eny, amin’ ny tampon-trano rehetra any Moaba sy eny an-kalalahana dia misy fisaonana avokoa; Satria torotoroiko toy ny fanaka tsy mahafinaritra intsony Moaba, hoy Jehovah.
Everyone is mourning on all the flat roofs and streets of Moab, because I have smashed the country like a jar nobody wants, declares the Lord.
39 Indrisy! raiki-tahotra izy! Midradradradrà! Indrisy! efa miamboho Moaba, mangaihay Izy, ka dia tonga fihomehezana sy fampitahorana ho an’ izay rehetra manodidina azy.
Moab is completely shattered! Listen to them cry! See how the Moabites turn away in shame! All the surrounding nations are horrified at what's happened to the country, and ridicule its people.
40 Fa izao no lazain’ i Jehovah: Indro, hanidina toy ny voromahery izy ka hamelatra ny elany hipaoka an’ i Moaba.
This is what the Lord says: Watch as an enemy like an eagle swoops down, spreading its wings as it attacks Moab.
41 Afaka ny tanàna, ka azo ny batery fiarovana, ary amin’ izany andro izany ny fon’ ny lehilahy maherin’ i Moaba dia ho tahaka ny fon’ ny vehivavy mihetsi-jaza.
Kirioth has been conquered, and the fortresses captured. At that time Moab's warriors will be as scared as a woman in labor.
42 Ary horavana tsy ho firenena intsony Moaba. Satria niavonavona tamin’ i Jehovah izy.
Moab will cease to exist as a nation because they defied the Lord.
43 Tahotra sy lavaka ary fandrika no mahazo anao, ry mponina any Moaba, hoy Jehovah.
You people living in Moab, what's waiting for you are terror, traps, and snares, declares the Lord.
44 Izay mandositra ny tahotra dia ho latsaka any an-davaka; Ary izay miakatra avy any an-davaka dia ho voan’ ny fandrika; Fa hataoko tonga amin’ i Moaba ny taona hamaliana azy, hoy Jehovah.
You will run away in terror and fall into a trap, and when you climb out of the trap, you'll be caught in a snare. I will do this to the Moabites at the time when they're punished, declares the Lord.
45 Ao amin’ ny alokalok’ i Hesbona no ijanonan’ ny mpandositra, satria lany hery ireny; Kanjo misy afo mivoaka avy any Hesbona, ary lelafo avy any Sihona, ka mandevona ny sisin’ i Moaba sy ny tampon-dohan’ ny mpitabataba.
Those who run away will be left defenseless in Heshbon where they went for protection, because fire blazes out from Heshbon, a fire from where Sihon once reigned. It burns up the whole country of Moab and its defiant people.
46 Idiran-doza ianao, ry Moaba! Ringana ny olon’ i Kemosy! Fa ho babo ny zanakao-lahy, ary ho sambotra ny zanakao-vavy.
What a disaster has come to you Moabites! The people of Chemosh have been wiped out. Your sons and daughters have been taken prisoner and have gone into exile.
47 Nefa mbola hampodiko avy amin’ ny fahababoana ihany Moaba any am-parany, hoy Jehovah. Hatreto ny amin’ ny fitsarana an’ i Moaba.
But even so, later on, I will bring the people of Moab back from exile, declares the Lord. This is the end of the description of the judgment on Moab.
