< Ezra 8 >
1 Ary izao no lohan’ ny fianakaviana sy filazana ny firazanan’ ny olona izay niara-niakatra tamiko avy tany Babylona tamin’ ny nanjakan’ i Artaksersesy mpanjaka:
This is a list of the names of the leaders of the clans who came with me up [to Jerusalem] from Babylonia when Artaxerxes was the king [of Persia]:
2 Gersoma, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Finehasa; Daniela, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ Itamara; Hatosy, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Davida;

3 Zakaria, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Sekania (avy tamin’ ny zanak’ i Parosy), mbamin’ ny namany dimam-polo amby zato lahy voasoratra araka ny firazanany;
Zechariah and 150 [other] men from the clan descended from Parosh
4 Elihoenay, zanak’ i Zerahia, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Pahata-moaba, mbamin’ ny namany roan-jato lahy;
Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah and 200 other men from the clan descended from Pahath-Moab
5 ny zanak’ i Jahaziela, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Sekania, mbamin’ ny namany telon-jato lahy;
Shecaniah the son of Jahaziel and 300 other men from the clan descended from Zattu
6 Ebeda, zanak’ i Jonatana, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Adina, mbamin’ ny namany dimam-polo lahy;
Ebed the son of Jonathan and 50 other men from the clan descended from Adin
7 Jesaia, zanak’ i Atalia, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Elama, mbamin’ ny namany fito-polo lahy;
Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah and 70 other men from the clan descended from Elam
8 Zebadia, zanak’ i Mikaela, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Sefatia, mbamin’ ny namany valo-polo lahy;
Zebadiah the son of Michael and 80 other men from the clan descended from Shephatiah
9 Obadia, zanak’ i Jehiela, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Joaba, mbamin’ ny namany valo ambin’ ny folo amby roan-jato lahy;
Obadiah the son of Jehiel and 218 other men from the clan descended from Joab
10 ny zanak’ i Josifia, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Selomita, mbamin’ ny namany enim-polo amby zato lahy;
Shelomith the son of Josiphiah and 160 other men from the clan descended from Bani
11 Zakaria, zanak’ i Bebay, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Bebay, mbamin’ ny namany valo amby roa-polo lahy,
Zechariah the son of Bebai and 28 other men from the clan descended from [another man whose name was] Bebai
12 Johanana, zanak’ i Hakatana, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Azgada, mbamin’ ny namany folo amby zato lahy;
Johanan the son of Hakkatan and 110 other men from the clan descended from Azgad
13 ary ny avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Adonikama, zandriny taoriana ireo, ary izao no anarany: Elifeleta sy Jeiela sy Semaia mbamin’ ny namany enim-polo lahy,
Also Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah, who returned [here] later with 60 men from the clan descended from Adonikam
14 Otahy sy Zaboda, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Bigvay, mbamin’ ny namany fito-polo lahy.
And Uthai and Zaccur and 70 other men from the clan descended from Bigvai.
15 Ary novoriko teo amoron’ ny ony mankany Ahava izy, ka nilasy teo hateloana izahay; ary nony nandinika ny olona sy ny mpisorona aho, dia nahita fa tsy nisy taranak’ i Levy teo na dia iray akory aza.
I gathered all of them together at the canal that goes [from Babylon] to Ahava [town]. We set up our tents there and stayed there for three days. [During that time] I checked the lists of names and found out that there were priests [going with us], but no [other] descendants of Levi [who could help them in the temple].
16 Ka dia nirahiko Eliezera sy Ariela sy Semaia sy Elnatana sy Jariba sy Elnatana sy Natana sy Zakaria sy Mesolama (samy loholona ireo) ary Joariba sy Elnatana (samy mpampianatra ireo).
So I summoned Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, two men whose names were Elnathan, and Jarib, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, who were all leaders [of the people]. I also summoned Joiarib and another Elnathan, who were wise.
17 Ary nampitondraiko teny ho any amin’ Ido, loholona any Kasifia, ireo, ka nambarako azy izay teny holazainy amin’ Ido sy ny Netinima rahalahiny any Kasifia, mba ho entiny any aminay izay ho mpanao fanompoam-pivavahana ao an-tranon’ Andriamanitray.
I sent them all to Iddo, the leader of the descendants of Levi, who was living in Casiphia [town], to request that he and his relatives and other men who had worked in the temple send to us some men who would [go/come with us to] work in God’s new temple [in Jerusalem].
18 Ary araka ny soa nataon’ ny tànan’ Andriamanitray taminay no nitondrany olon-kendry anankiray ho any aminay avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Maly, zanak’ i Levy, zanak’ Isiraely, ary Serebia, sy ny zanany mbamin’ ny rahalahiny, valo ambin’ ny folo lahy,
Because God was kind to us, they brought to us a man named Sherebiah and 18 of his sons and other relatives. Sherebiah was a very wise man, a descendant of Mahli, [who was a grandson] of Levi.
19 ary Hasabia sy Jesaia, avy tamin’ ny taranak’ i Merary, mbamin’ ny rahalahiny ary ny zanany roa-polo lahy;
They also sent to us Hashabiah, along with Jeshaiah, descendants of [Levi’s son] Merari, and 20 of their relatives.
20 ary avy tamin’ ny Netinima, izay notendren’ i Davida sy ny mpanapaka hanompo ny Levita, dia roa-polo amby roan-jato lahy; notononina anarana avokoa ireo.
They also sent 220 other men to work in the temple. Those men’s ancestors had been appointed by King David to assist the descendants of Levi [who helped the priests in the temple]. I listed/wrote the names of all those men.
21 Dia niantso andro fifadian-kanina aho teo amoron’ ny ony Ahava hampahorianay tena eo anatrehan’ Andriamanitray, mba hangataka Azy hahalavorary ny dianay sy ny an’ ny vady aman-janakay ary ny biby fiompinay rehetra.
There alongside the Ahava Canal, I told them that we all would (fast/abstain from eating food) and pray. I also told them that we should humble ourselves in the presence of our God. We prayed that God would protect us while we traveled, and also protect our children and our possessions/belongings.
22 Fa nahamenatra ahy ny hangataka miaramila sy mpitaingin-tsoavaly amin’ ny mpanjaka hiaro anay amin’ ny fahavalonay eny an-dalana, satria efa niteny tamin’ ny mpanjaka izahay ka nanao hoe: Sy tànan’ Andriamanitray mahasoa izay rehetra mitady Azy; fa ny heriny sy ny fahatezerany kosa mamely izay rehetra mahafoy Azy.
Previously we had told the king that our God takes care of all those who truly trust in him, but that he becomes very angry with those who refuse to obey him. So I would have been ashamed if I had asked the king to send soldiers and men riding on horses to protect us from our enemies while we were traveling along the road.
23 Ary nifady hanina izahay ka nangataka izany tamin’ Andriamanitray, dia nihaino anay Izy.
So we (fasted/abstained from eating food) and requested God to protect us, and he (answered our prayers/did what we requested.)
24 Ary nanokana roa ambin’ ny folo lahy tamin’ ny lohan’ ny mpisorona aho, dia Serebia sy Hasabia ary rahalahiny folo lahy ho namany,
I chose twelve of the leaders of the priests, Sherebiah and Hashabiah and ten of their relatives.
25 ka nolanjaiko ny volafotsy sy ny volamena horaisiny mbamin’ ny fanaka, dia ny fanatitra ho ao an-tranon’ Andriamanitray, izay efa naterin’ ny mpanjaka sy ireo mpanolotsainy sy ireo mpanapaka ary ny Isiraely rehetra izay vory teo;
I appointed them to supervise carrying to Jerusalem the gifts of silver and gold and the other valuable items that the king and his advisors and other officials, and the Israeli people [who were living in Babylonia], had contributed for the temple of our God.
26 eny, nolanjaiko hatolotra azy ny talenta volafotsy dimam-polo amby enin-jato sy fanaka volafotsy, lanjan’ ny talenta zato, ary talenta volamena zato
As I gave these various items to those priests, I weighed each of the items. This was the total: 25 tons of silver, 100 items made from silver that altogether weighed 7,500 pounds, (7,500 pounds/3,400 kg.) of gold,
27 sy kapoaka volamena misarona roa-polo, lanjan’ ny darika arivo, ary fanaka varahina roa manganohano, tsara toy ny volamena.
20 gold bowls that altogether weighed (19 pounds/8.6 kg.), and two items made of polished bronze that were as valuable as ones made of gold.
28 Ary hoy izaho taminy: Hianareo dia masìna ho an’ i Jehovah, sady masìna koa ny fanaka; ary ny volafotsy sy ny volamena dia fanati-tsitrapo ho an’ i Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny razanareo.
I said to those priests, “You belong to Yahweh, the God whom our ancestors (worshiped/also belonged to), and these valuable things also belong to him. The people themselves gave these things to be offerings to Yahweh (voluntarily/because they wanted to).
29 Koa miambena ianareo, ka tandremo ireny mandra-pandanianareo azy indray eo anatrehan’ ny lohan’ ny mpisorona sy ny Levita ary ny lohan’ ny fianakaviana amin’ ny Isiraely any Jerosalema, dia amin’ ny efi-trano ao an-tranon’ i Jehovah.
So guard them carefully, and [when we arrive] in Jerusalem, weigh them in the presence of the priests, the descendants of Levi [who will help the priests], and the other Israeli leaders there. They will then put them in the storerooms in the new temple.”
30 Dia noraisin’ ny mpisorona sy ny Levita izany volafotsy sy volamena ary fanaka voalanja izany mba ho entiny ho any Jerosalema ho ao an-tranon’ Andriamanitray.
So the priests and [other] descendants of Levi took from me all the gifts of silver and gold and the other valuable items, in order to carry them to the temple in Jerusalem.
31 Dia niala teo amin’ ny ony Ahava izahay tamin’ ny andro faharoa ambin’ ny folo tamin’ ny volana voalohany mba hankany Jerosalema; ary ny tànan’ Andriamanitray nomba anay, ka Izy no namonjy anay tamin’ ny tanan’ ny fahavalo sy ny mpanotrika teny an-dalana.
On April 19, we left the Ahava Canal and started to travel to Jerusalem. Our God took care of us, and while we traveled, he prevented our enemies and bandits from (ambushing us/suddenly attacking us).
32 Ary nony tonga tany Jerosalema izahay, dia nijanona hateloana aloha.
After we arrived in Jerusalem, we rested for three days.
33 Ary tamin’ ny andro fahefatra no nandanjana ny volafotsy sy ny volamena ary ny fanaka ho eo an-tànan’ i Meremota, zanak’ i Oria mpisorona, tao an-tranon’ Andriamanitray; ary teo aminy koa Eleazara, zanak’ i Finehasa; ary teo amin’ izy roa lahy koa Jozabada, zanak’ i Jesoa, sy Noadia, zanak’ i Binoy; Levita izy roa lahy ireo;
Then on the fourth/next day we went to the temple. There the silver and gold and the other items were weighed and given to the priest Meremoth, the son of Uriah. Eleazar the son of Phinehas and two descendants of Levi, Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of Binnui, were with him.
34 an-isany sy an-danjany izany rehetra izany; ary voasoratra tamin’ izany andro izany ny lanjany rehetra.
They counted everything, and wrote down how much they weighed, and wrote [a description of] each item.
35 Ary ny olona izay niverina avy tamin’ ny fahababoana dia nanatitra fanatitra dorana ho an’ Andriamanitry ny Isiraely, dia vantotr’ ombilahy roa ambin’ ny folo ho an’ ny Isiraely rehetra sy ondrilahy enina amby sivifolo sy zanak’ ondry fito amby fito-polo ary osilahy roa ambin’ ny folo ho fanatitra noho ny ota: fanatitra dorana ho an’ i Jehovah ireo rehetra ireo.
We who had returned from Babylonia offered to God sacrifices on the altar. We offered twelve bulls for all us Israeli people. We also offered 96 rams and 27 lambs. We also sacrificed twelve goats [to atone] for the sins that all the people had committed. These were all completely burned on the altar.
36 Ary ny didin’ ny mpanjaka dia natolony tamin’ ny solo-mpanjaka sy ny mpanapaka tamin’ ny etỳ an-dafin’ ny ony etỳ; ary izy ireo nampandroso ny olona sy ny tranon’ Andriamanitra.
Some of us who returned [from Babylonia] took to the governors and other officials of the province west of the [Euphrates] River the letter that the king had given to us. [After they read the letter, ] they did all [that they were able to do] for us Israeli people and for the temple of God.
