1 Raha misy olona mangalatra omby, na ondry, na osy, ka mamono azy, na mivarotra azy, dia hanonitra omby dimy ho solon’ ny omby iray izy ary ondry na osy efatra ho solon’ ny ondry na osy iray.
“Anyone who steals an ox or a sheep and kills or sells it, he must pay back five oxen for one ox and four sheep for one sheep.
2 Raha azo manamitrano ny mpangalatra ka asiana ho faty, dia tsy hisy valin-drà amin’ izany;
If a thief is discovered breaking into someone's house and is beaten to death, no one shall be guilty of murder.
3 fa raha tratry ny masoandro miposaka kosa izy, dia hisy valin-drà ihany amin’ izany; hanonitra tokoa izy; ary raha tsy manana na inona na inona, dia hamidy izy noho ny halatra nataony.
But if it happens during daylight, then someone is guilty of murder. A thief must pay everything back that's stolen. If he doesn't have anything, then he must be sold to pay for what was stolen.
4 Raha hita marina velona eo aminy ny halatra na omby, na boriky, na ondry, na osy, dia hanonitra roa heny izy.
If what was stolen is a live animal he still has, whether it's an ox, donkey, or sheep, he must pay back double.
5 Raha misy olona mampitondraka amin’ ny voly na tanim-boaloboka, fa alefany handeha ny bibiny, ka homana ny volin’ olona izany biby izany, dia amin’ ny tsara indrindra ao amin’ ny sahany, ary amin’ ny tsara indrindra ao amin’ ny tanim-boalobony, no hanonerany.
If livestock are grazing in a field or vineyard and their owner lets them stray so that they graze in someone else's field, the owner must pay compensation from the best of their own fields or vineyards.
6 Raha misy afo mirehitra ka mahazo ny tsilo, ka may ny antontam-bary, na ny vary maniry, na ny saha, dia hanonitra tokoa izay nampirehitra ny afo.
If a fire is started and it spreads to thorn bushes and then burns stacked or standing grain, or even the whole field, the person who started the fire must pay full compensation.
7 Raha misy olona mampitahiry vola na fanaka ny namany, ka angalarin’ ny sasany ao amin’ ny tranon’ ilay olona izany, raha hita ny mpangalatra, dia hanonitra roa heny izy.
If someone gives his neighbor money or possessions to be kept safe and they are stolen from the neighbor's house, if the thief is caught they must pay back double.
8 Fa raha tsy hita kosa ny mpangalatra, dia ho entina eo anatrehan’ Andriamanitra ny tompon’ ny trano mba hizahana na naninjitra ny tànany ka naka ny fananan’ ny namany izy, na tsia.
If the thief isn't caught the owner of the house must appear before the judges to find out whether he took his neighbor's property.
9 Ny amin’ ny zavatra ifandirana rehetra, na omby, na boriky, na ondry, na osy, na fitafiana, na zavatra very, izay ataon’ olona ho azy, dia ho entina eo anatrehan’ Andriamanitra ny tenin’ izy roa tonta, koa izay helohih’ Andriamanitra dia hanonitra roa heny ho an’ ny namany.
If there's an argument over the ownership of an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or anything that was lost that someone says, ‘This is mine,’ both parties are to bring their case before the judges. The one whom the judges find in the wrong must pay the other back double.
10 Raha misy olona mampitahiry ny namany boriky, na omby, na ondry, na osy, na biby fiompy hafa, ka maty izany, na maratra, na roahina ka tsy misy mahita,
If someone asks a neighbor to look after a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any other animal, but it dies or is injured or is stolen without anybody noticing,
11 dia fianianana amin’ i Jehovah no hitsarana azy roa tonta, hahafantarana na efa naninjitra ny tànany ka naka ny fananan’ ny namany ilay anankiray, na tsia; ary heken’ ny tompony izany, dia tsy hisy onitra.
then an oath must be taken before the Lord to decide if the neighbor has taken the owner's property. The owner must accept the oath and not demand compensation.
12 Fa raha nangalarina tany aminy tokoa izany, dia hanonitra ho an’ ny tompon-javatra izy.
However, if the animal really was stolen from the neighbor, he must compensate the owner.
13 Raha voaviraviram-biby izany, dia hitondra azy ho vavolombelona izy; tsy hanonitra izay voaviravira izy.
If it was killed and torn to pieces by a wild animal, the neighbor shall present the carcass as evidence and does not need to pay compensation.
14 Ary raha misy olona mindran-javatra amin’ ny namany, ka simba na maty izany, nefa tsy mba teo aminy ny tompon-javatra, dia hanonitra tokoa izy.
If someone borrows a neighbor's animal and it's injured or dies while its owner is not present, they must pay compensation in full.
15 Fa raha teo aminy ihany ny tompon-javatra, dia tsy hanonitra izy; ary raha zavatra ahofa kosa, dia vitan’ ny hofany izany.
If the owner was present, no compensation is to be paid. If the animal was hired, only the hire charge needs to be paid.
16 Ary raha misy olona mitaona zazavavy, izay tsy voafofo, ka mandry aminy, dia hanome harena azy izy mba ho vadiny.
If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the full bride-price for her to become his wife.
17 Fa raha mandà tokoa ny rainy ka tsy manome azy ho vadiny, dia handoa vola ralehilahy araka ny harena fanome zazavavy hampakarina.
If her father adamantly refuses to give her to him, the man still must pay the same amount as the bride-price for a virgin.
18 Aza velomina ny vehivavy manana ody.
You must not allow a woman who practices witchcraft to live.
19 Izay rehetra mandry amin’ ny biby dia hatao maty tokoa.
Anyone who has sex with an animal must be executed.
20 Izay mamono zavatra hatao fanatitra amin’ ny andriamanitra hafa, afa-tsy amin’ i Jehovah ihany, dia ho voaozona.
Anyone who sacrifices to any other god than the Lord must be set apart and executed.
21 Ary aza manao izay sarotra amin’ ny vahiny, na mampahory azy; fa ela mba vahiny tany amin’ ny tany Egypta ihany ianareo.
You must not exploit or mistreat a foreigner. Remember that you yourselves were once foreigners in Egypt.
22 Aza mampahory ny mpitondratena sy ny kamboty akory ianareo.
You must not take advantage of any widow or orphan.
23 Fa raha mampahory azy na amin’ inona na amin’ inona ianao, ka mitaraina amiko izy, dia hihaino ny fitarainany tokoa Aho,
If you mistreat them, and they call out to me for help, I will definitely respond to their cry.
24 ka hirehitra ny fahatezerako, ary hamono anareo amin’ ny sabatra Aho; dia mba ho mpitondratena ny vadinareo, ary ho kamboty kosa ny zanakareo.
I will become angry, and I will kill you with the sword. Your wives will become widows and your children will be fatherless.
25 Raha mampisambo-bola ny oloko izay malahelo eo aminao ianao, dia tsy ho toy ny mpampanana vola aminy; fa tsy hampandoa zana-bola azy ianao.
If you lend money to any of my people because they're poor, you must not behave as a moneylender to them. You must not charge them any interest.
26 Raha maka ny lamban’ ny namanao ho tsatòka ianao, dia hampodinao aminy izany, raha mbola tsy milentika ny masoandro.
If you require your neighbor's cloak as security for a loan, you must return it to him by sunset,
27 Fa izany ihany no firakofany sady fitafiany amin’ ny hodiny, ka inona no ho entiny mandry? ary raha mitaraina amiko izy, dia hohenoiko, fa mamindra fo Aho.
because it's the only clothing he has for his body. What would he sleep in otherwise? If he calls out to me for help, I will listen, for I am considerate.
28 Aza miteny ratsy an’ Andriamanitra ianao, na manozona ny mpanapaka ny firenenao.
You must not despise God or curse your people's leader.
29 Aza atao ela vao manatitra ny santatry ny vokatrao sy ny fisotronao; ny matoa amin’ ny zanakao-lahy dia omeo Ahy.
You must not hold onto the required offerings of your produce, olive oil, and wine. You must give me the firstborn of your sons.
30 Izao no hataonao amin’ ny ombinao sy ny ondry aman’ osinao; hafitoana no hitoerany ao amin’ ny reniny; ary amin’ ny andro fahavalo no hanateranao azy ho Ahy.
You must also give me the firstborn of your cattle, sheep, and goats. They can stay with their mothers for their first seven days, but give them to me on the eighth day.
31 Ary ho olona masìna ho Ahy ianareo, koa izay hena voaviraviram-biby any an-tsaha dia tsy hohaninareo; fa harianareo ho an’ ny amboa izany.
You are to be holy people to me. You must not eat any animal carcass that you find in the countryside that has been killed by wild animals. Throw it to the dogs to eat.”
