< Eksodosy 17 >
1 Ary nifindra ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, ka niala tao an-efitra Sina, araka izay natoron’ i Jehovah hitobiany, dia nitoby tao Refidima; ary tsy nisy rano hosotroin’ ny olona.
The whole community of the Israelites journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, following Yahweh's instructions. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Dia nila ady tamin’ i Mosesy ny olona ka nanao hoe: Omeo rano izahay mba hosotroinay. Fa hoy Mosesy taminy: Nahoana no mila ady amiko ianareo? Nahoana no maka fanahy an’ i Jehovah ianareo?
So the people blamed Moses for their situation and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”
3 Ary nangetaheta teo ny olona, dia nimonomonona tamin’ i Mosesy izy ka nanao hoe: Nahoana ianao no nitondra anay niakatra niala tany Egypta hahafatin-ketaheta anay sy ny zanakay ary ny bibinay?
The people were very thirsty, and they complained against Moses. They said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt? To kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?”
4 Ary Mosesy nitaraina tamin’ i Jehovah ka nanao hoe: Ahoana no hataoko amin’ ireto olona ireto? fa mila hitora-bato ahy izy.
Then Moses cried out to Yahweh, “What should I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 Ary hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Mosesy: Mandrosoa eo alohan’ ny olona, ary itondray hiaraka aminao ny loholon’ ny Isiraely; ary ny tehinao, ilay nikapohanao an’ i Neily, dia ento eny an-tananao, ka mandehana.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Go on ahead of the people, and take with you some elders of Israel. Take with you the staff with which you struck the river, and go.
6 Ary, indro, hijanona eo anatrehanao eo ambonin’ ny harambato any Horeba Aho, dia hikapoka ny harambato ianao, ka hisy rano hivoaka avy aminy hosotroin’ ny olona. Dia nanao izany Mosesy teo imason’ ny loholon’ ny Isiraely.
I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you will strike the rock. Water will come out of it for the people to drink.” Then Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7 Ary ny anaran’ izany tany izany dia nataony hoe Masa sy Meriba, noho ny ady nataon’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely, sy noho ny nakany fanahy an’ i Jehovah hoe: Eto aminay va Jehovah, sa tsia?
He called that place Massah and Meribah because of the Israelites' complaining, and because they had tested the Lord by saying, “Is Yahweh among us or not?”
8 Ary tonga ny Amalekita ka niady tamin’ ny Isiraely tao Refidima.
Then an army of the Amalek people came and attacked Israel at Rephidim.
9 Dia hoy Mosesy tamin’ i Josoa: Mifidiana lehilahy ho antsika, dia mandehana ka miadia amin’ ny Amalekita; rahampitso dia hijoro eo an-tampon’ ny havoana aho ka hitana ny tehin’ Andriamanitra etỳ an-tanako.
So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some men and go out. Fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
10 Ary Josoa dia nanao araka izay efa nolazain’ i Mosesy taminy, ka niady tamin’ ny Amalekita izy; ary Mosesy sy Arona sy Hora kosa niakatra ho ao an-tampon’ ny havoana.
So Joshua fought Amalek as Moses had instructed, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Ary raha nasandratr’ i Mosesy ny tànany, dia nahery ny Isiraely; fa raha nampidininy ny tànany, dia nahery kosa ny Amalekita.
While Moses was holding his hands up, Israel was winning; when he let his hands rest, Amalek would begin to win.
12 Fa efa vizana ny tanan’ i Mosesy; ka dia naka vato izy roa lahy, ka nataony teo ambanin’ i Mosesy hipetrahany; ary Arona sy Hora dia nanohana ny tànany, ka ny iray tamin’ ny anila, ary ny iray kosa tamin’ ny anila; dia naharitra tsy nidina intsony ny tànany mandra-pahafatin’ ny masoandro.
When Moses' hands became heavy, Aaron and Hur took a stone and put it under him for him to sit on. At the same time, Aaron and Hur held his hands up, one person on one side of him, and the other person on the other side. So Moses' hands were held steady until the sun went down.
13 Ary Josoa dia nandresy ny Amalekita sy ny olony tamin’ ny lelan-tsabatra.
So Joshua defeated the people of Amalek with the sword.
14 Ary hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Mosesy: Soraty eo amin’ ny boky izany ho fahatsiarovana, ka ambarao amin’ i Josoa; fa hofoanako tokoa ny fahatsiarovana ny Amalekita tsy ho eny ambanin’ ny lanitra.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Write this in a book and read it in Joshua's hearing, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under the skies.”
15 Dia nanorina alitara Mosesy ka nanao ny anarany hoe: Jehovah Nisi.
Then Moses built an altar and he called it “Yahweh is my banner.”
16 Fa hoy izy: Jehovah nianiana hoe: Ny adin’ i Jehovah amin’ ny Amalekita dia tsy hitsahatra hatramin’ izay taranany fara mandimby.
He said, “For a hand was lifted up to the throne of Yahweh—that Yahweh will wage war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
