< Eksodosy 16 >
1 Ary tamin’ ny andro fahadimy ambin’ ny folo tamin’ ny volana faharoa taorian’ ny nialany tany amin’ ny tany Egypta dia nifindra niala tao Elima ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, ka nankany amin’ ny efitra Sina, izay eo anelanelan’ i Elima sy Sinay.
The whole Israelite community left Elim and went to the Desert of Sin, between Elim and Sinai. This was on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left the land of Egypt.
2 Dia nimonomonona tamin’ i Mosesy sy Arona tany an-efitra ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra,
There in the desert they complained to Moses and Aaron.
3 ka nanao taminy hoe: Inay anie izahay mba matin’ ny tànan’ i Jehovah tany amin’ ny tany Egypta, raha nipetraka teo anilan’ ny fahandroan-kena ka nihinan-kanina ho voky; fa nitondra anay nivoaka ho atỳ an-efitra ianareo hahafaty mosary izao fiangonana rehetra izao.
“The Lord should've killed us back in Egypt!” the Israelites told them. “At least there we could sit down beside stewpots of meat and eat bread until we were full. But you had to bring all of us out here in the desert to starve us all to death!”
4 Ary hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Mosesy: Indro, Izaho handatsaka mofo avy any an-danitra ho anareo; dia hivoaka ny olona ka hanangona izay sahaza hohaniny isan’ andro, hizahako toetra azy, na handeha manaraka ny lalako izy, na tsia.
The Lord told Moses, “Just watch! I'm going to rain down bread from heaven for you! Each day the people are to go out and collect enough for that day. I'm going to test them by this to find out whether they'll follow my instructions or not.
5 Ary raha mby amin’ ny andro fahenina dia hamboariny izay azony; ary hisy indroa toraka izay angoniny isan’ andro.
On the sixth day they are to collect twice as much as usual and prepare it.”
6 Ary hoy Mosesy sy Arona tamin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra: Anio hariva dia ho fantatrareo fa Jehovah no nitondra anareo nivoaka avy tany amin’ ny tany Egypta;
So Moses and Aaron explained to all the Israelites, “This evening you will have the proof that it was the Lord who led you out of Egypt,
7 ary rahampitso maraina dia ho hitanareo ny voninahitr’ i Jehovah, fa efa reny ny fimonomononanareo tamin’ i Jehovah; fa izahay moa no inona, no imonomononanareo?
and in the morning you will see the glory of the Lord displayed as he responds to the complaints he's heard you making against him. For why should you be complaining to us? We're nobodies!”
8 Ary hoy koa Mosesy; Ho hitanareo izany, raha homen’ i Jehovah hena hohanina ianareo anio hariva, ary mofo hahavoky rahampitso maraina; fa efa ren’ i Jehovah ny fimonomononanareo, izay nimonomononanareo taminy; fa izahay moa no inona? Tsy izahay no imonomononanareo, fa Jehovah.
Then Moses continued, “The Lord is going to give you meat to eat this evening and as much bread as you want in the morning, for he has heard your complaints against him. Why are you complaining to us nobodies? Your complaints aren't directed against us, but against the Lord.”
9 Ary hoy Mosesy tamin’ i Arona: Lazao amin’ ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, hoe: Manatòna eo anatrehan’ i Jehovah; fa efa reny ny fimonomononanareo.
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole Israelite community, ‘Present yourselves before the Lord, because he has heard your complaints.’”
10 Ary raha Arona mbola niteny tamin’ ny fiangonana, dia ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, dia nijery nanatrika ny efitra izy ireo, ka, indro, ny voninahitr’ i Jehovah niseho teo amin’ ny rahona.
While Aaron was still speaking to all the Israelites, they looked toward the desert and saw the glory of the Lord appear in a cloud.
11 Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy ka nanao hoe:
The Lord told Moses,
12 Efa reko ny fimonomononan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely, koa mitenena aminy hoe: Anio hariva dia hihinan-kena ianareo, ary rahampitso maraina kosa dia ho voky mofo ianareo, ka dia ho fantatrareo fa Izaho no Jehovah Andriamanitrareo.
“I have heard the complaints of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘In the evening you will eat meat, and in the morning you will have as much bread as you want. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.’”
13 Ary nony hariva dia niakatra ny papelika, ka rakotra azy ny toby; ary nony maraina dia nisy ando manodidina ny toby;
That evening quail flew in and landed, filling the camp. In the morning dew covered the ground all around the camp.
14 ary nony niala ny ando, dia, indro, nisy zava-madinika boribory teny amin’ ny efitra, madinika toy ny fanala amin’ ny tany.
Once the dew had gone, there was something thin and flaky on the desert, looking like frost crystals on the ground.
15 Ary rehefa hitan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely izany, dia nifanontany hoe izy: Inona itony? satria tsy fantany ireny. Dia hoy Mosesy taminy: Itony no mofo izay nomen’ i Jehovah ho fihinanareo.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked each another, “What is it?” because they had no idea what it was. So Moses explained to them, “It's the bread the Lord has provided for you to eat.
16 Izao no teny izay nandidian’ i Jehovah: Samia manangona azy ianareo araka izay tokony ho laninareo avy, dia eran’ ny vata omera avy ho amin’ ny isan-olona, araka ny isanareo; samia mitondra ianareo rehetra ho an’ izay ao an-dainy avy.
This is what the Lord has ordered you to do: ‘All of you shall collect as much as is needed. Take an omer for each person in your tent.’”
17 Dia nanao izany ny Zanak’ Isiraely, ka samy nanangona: ny sasany nanangona be, ary ny sasany kosa kely.
So the Israelites did as they were told. Some collected more, while others collected less.
18 Ary raha nafatrany tamin’ ny vata omera izany, dia tsy nanana amby ny nanangona be, ary ny nanangona kely tsy nanana ny tsy ampy; samy nanangona araka izay fihinany avy izy.
But when they measured it out in omers, those who had collected a lot didn't have any left over, while those who had only collected a little still had enough. Each person collected gathered as much as they needed to eat.
19 Ary hoy Mosesy taminy: Aza misy mamela sisa ho tra-maraina.
Then Moses said to them, “No one is to leave any of it until the morning.”
20 Kanefa tsy mba nanaraka ny tenin’ i Mosesy izy, fa namela sisa ho tra-maraina ihany ny olona sasany, dia niteraka olitra izany ka maimbo; ary dia tezitra tamin’ ny olona Mosesy.
But some didn't listen to Moses. They did leave some of it until the morning, and it was full of maggots and smelled bad. Moses became angry with them.
21 Ary nanangona ny mana isa-maraina ny olona, dia samy araka izay fihinany avy; ary nony nafana ny andro, dia levona ireny.
So each morning everyone collected as much as they needed, and when the sun became hot, it melted away to nothing.
22 Ary nony tamin’ ny andro fahenina dia nanangona avy sasaka noho ny isan’ andro ny olona, dia indroan’ ny vata omera ho an’ ny isan-olona avy; dia avy ny lohan’ ny fiangonana ka nanambara tamin’ i Mosesy.
However, on the sixth day, they collected twice as much of this food, two omers for each person. All the Israelite leaders came and told Moses what they had done.
23 Ary hoy Mosesy taminy: Izao no lazain’ i Jehovah: Rahampitso dia tena andro fitsaharana masìna ho an’ i Jehovah; koa manendasa izay hendasinareo, ary mahandroa izay handrahoinareo, ary izay sisa rehetra dia avelao ho anareo, hotehirizina ho tra-maraina.
Moses replied, “These are the Lord's instructions: ‘Tomorrow is a special day of rest, a holy Sabbath to honor the Lord. So bake what you want, and boil what you want. Then put to one side what's left and keep it until morning.’”
24 Dia namela izany ho tra-maraina izy, araka izay nandidian’ i Mosesy; ary tsy mba maimbo na niteraka olitra izany.
So they kept it until morning as Moses had ordered, and it didn't smell bad or have any maggots.
25 Ary hoy Mosesy: Hano ireny anio, fa Sabata ho an’ i Jehovah anio, ka anio no tsy hahitanareo azy any an-tsaha.
Moses told them, “Eat it today, because today is a Sabbath to honor the Lord. Today you won't find anything out there.
26 Henemana no hanangonanareo azy; fa Sabata ny andro fahafito, ka dia tsy hisy amin’ izany.
You can go out collecting for six days, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, it won't be there.”
27 Ary nony tamin’ ny andro fahafito dia nisy olona nivoaka hanangona, fa tsy nahita na dia kely akory aza.
However, on the seventh day some people still went out collecting, but they did not find anything.
28 Ary hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Mosesy: Mandra-pahoviana no handavanareo tsy hitandrina ny didiko sy ny lalàko?
The Lord told Moses, “How long are you going to refuse to obey my commands and instructions?
29 Saino fa Jehovah no nanome anareo ny Sabata, koa izany no anomezany anareo mofo ampy ho indroa andro amin’ ny andro fahenina; samia mitoetra eo amin’ ny fitoerany avy ianareo, ka aoka tsy hisy hiala amin’ ny fitoerany amin’ ny andro fahafito.
You need to understand that the Lord has given you the Sabbath, so on the sixth day he will provide you with food for two days. On the seventh day, everyone has to stay where they are—no one needs to go out.”
30 Dia nitsahatra ny olona tamin’ ny andro fahafito.
So the people did no work on the seventh day.
31 Ary ny anarany dia nataon’ ny taranak’ Isiraely hoe Mana; ary tahaka ny voan-drafy izy sady fotsy; ary ny fanandramana azy dia tahaka ny mofo misy tantely.
The Israelites called the food manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers with honey.
32 Ary hoy Mosesy: Izao no teny izay nandidian’ i Jehovah: Analao eran’ ny vata omera izy hotehirizina hatramin’ ny taranakareo fara mandimby, mba ho hitany ny mofo izay nampihinaniko anareo tany an-efitra, raha nitondra anareo nivoaka avy tany amin’ ny tany Egypta Aho.
Moses said, “This is what the Lord has ordered: ‘Keep an omer of manna as a reminder for future generations, so that they can see the food I used to feed you in the desert when I led you out of Egypt.’”
33 Ary hoy Mosesy tamin’ i Arona: Makà vilany, ka asio mana eran’ ny vata omera eo anatiny, dia apetraho eo anatrehan’ i Jehovah mba hotehirizina hatramin’ ny taranakareo fara mandimby.
So Moses told Aaron, “Take a jar and put an omer of manna in it. Then place it before the Lord to be kept as a reminder for future generations.”
34 Ary araka izay nandidian’ i Jehovah an’ i Mosesy no nametrahan’ i Arona izany teo anatrehan’ ny Vavolombelona mba hotehirizina.
Aaron did so and placed the jar in front of the Testimony, to be preserved just as the Lord had ordered Moses.
35 Ary ny Zanak’ Isiraely nihinana mana mandritra ny efa-polo taona mandra-pahatongany tany amin’ izay tany misy monina: eny, mana no nohaniny mandra-pahatongany tany amin’ ny sisin’ ny tany Kanana.
The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to the land where they would settle down—they ate manna until they arrived at the border of Canaan.
36 Ary ny omera dia ampahalofon’ ny vata efaha.
(An omer is a tenth of an ephah.)
