< Mpitoriteny 4 >

1 Dia hitako koa ny fampahoriana rehetra atao atỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro; ary indro ny ranomason’ ny ampahorina, sady tsy nisy mpanony azy; ary loza no ataon’ ny tanan’ ny mpampahory azy, sady tsy nisy mpanony.
Then I turned and saw all the oppressions which take place under the sun; and, behold, there were the tears of the oppressed, and they had no comforter; and from the hand of their oppressors there was violence, and they had no comforter.
2 Ary ny maty izay efa maty ela dia nataoko ho sambatra noho ny velona izay mbola velona,
Therefore I praised the dead, who have been long ago dead, more than the living, who are yet alive.
3 nefa tsara indray noho izy roa tonta aza ny tsy ary, izay tsy nahita ny ratsy atao atỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro akory.
Yea, better than both of them is he who hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work which is done under the sun.
4 Ary hitako ny fisasarana rehetra sy ny fahaizan-javatra rehetra, fa avy amin’ ny fifampialonan’ ny olona izany. Zava-poana sy misambo-drivotra foana koa izany.
And I saw all labor, and all success in work, that for this a man is envied by his neighbor. This also is vanity, and striving after wind.
5 Ny adala manohon-tanana ka homana ny tenany.
The fool foldeth his hands together and eateth his own flesh.
6 Tsara ny eran-tànan’ ila misy fiadanana noho ny eran-tànan-droa misy fisasarana sady misambo-drivotra foana.
Better is a hand full of quietness, than both hands full of weariness and striving after wind.
7 Ary izao koa no zava-poana hitako atỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro:
Then I turned and saw other vanity under the sun.
8 Misy mitoetra irery ka tsy mana-namana, eny, tsy manan-janaka na rahalahy aza, nefa tsy misy farany ny fisasarany rehetra, ary ny masony tsy afa-po amin’ ny harena, hanaovany hoe: Ho an’ iza no isasarako sy tsy ampananako soa ny fanahiko? Zava-poana sy asa mahareraka koa izany.
There is one who is alone, and no one with him; yea, he hath neither son nor brother; yet is there no end to all his labor, and his eye is not satisfied with riches. “For whom, then [[saith he]], do I labor and deprive myself of good?” This also is vanity; yea, it is an evil thing!
9 Tsara ny roa noho ny iray; fa misy valiny tsara ny fisasarany.
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.
10 Raha misy lavo izy, dia arenin’ ny namany; fa mahantra ny lavo izay tsy manana namana hanarina azy.
For if they fall, the one will lift his fellow up; but woe to him who is alone when he falleth, and hath not another to help him up!
11 Ary koa, raha miara-mandry ny roa, dia mafana izy; fa hatao ahoana no hampahafana ny irery?
Again, if two lie together, then they have heat; but how can one be warm alone?
12 Raha misy maharesy ny irery aza, ny roa tsy ho leony tsy akory; ary ny mahazaka telo olana tsy mora tapahina.
And if an enemy prevail against one, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
13 Aleo zatovo malahelo hendry toy izay mpanjaka antitra adala ka tsy laitra anarina intsony;
Better is a child poor but wise, than a king old and foolish, who will no more be admonished.
14 fa avy ao an-tranomaizina no nivoahany hanjaka, na dia nateraka tamin’ alahelo tamin’ ny fanjakany aza izy.
For out of prison cometh forth such a one to reign; for in his own kingdom he was born a poor man.
15 Hitako ny miaina rehetra izay miriaria atỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro manotrona ilay zazalahy dia ilay faharoa izay mitsangana handimby ny teo.
I saw that all the living, who walk under the sun, were with the child who stood up in his stead.
16 Tsy hita isa ny olona rehetra, dia izay rehetra anjakany; nefa izay any aoriana tsy mba hifaly aminy; fa zava-poana sy misambo-drivotra foana koa izany.
There was no end to all the people before whom he went forth; yet they that come afterwards shall not rejoice in him. This also is vanity, and striving after wind.
