< Mpitoriteny 2 >
1 Hoy izaho anakampo: Aoka mba hizahako toetra amin’ ny hafaliana ianao, ka dia mifalia amin’ ny fahitana ny fahafinaretana; kanjo, indro, zava-poana koa izany.
Come, then, I said in my heart, I will have a taste of joy, and thou shalt see what is good; but, behold, this also was vanity.
2 Hoy izaho, miantso ny fihomehezana: Fahadalana, ary ny fifaliana hoe: Mahefa inona?
Of laughter I said, It maketh one mad: and of joy, What doth this do?
3 Nisaina tato am-poko hamalifaly ny nofoko tamin’ ny divay aho (ny foko anefa mbola hitondra azy amin’ ny fahendrena ihany) ary hitana ny fahadalana, mandra-pahitako izay tsara ho an’ ny zanak’ olombelona ka tokony hataony atỳ ambanin’ ny lanitra amin’ ny andro vitsy iainany.
I resolved in my heart to indulge my body with wine, while my heart guideth itself with wisdom; and to lay fast hold on folly, till I might see what it is that is good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heavens during the number of the days of their life.
4 Nanao asa lehibe ho ahy aho, nanao trano, nanao tanim-boaloboka,
I made great works: I built myself houses; I planted myself vineyards;
5 nanao tanimboly sy saha aho ka namboly hazo fihinam-boa samy hafa karazana tao;
I made myself gardens and orchards, and I planted therein trees of all kinds of fruit;
6 nanao kamory aho handemana ny ala be zana-kazo;
I made myself pools of water, to water therewith the forest overgrown with trees;
7 nahazo ankizilahy sy ankizivavy aho sady nanana ompikely; ary nanana fananana be aho, dia omby sy ondry aman’ osy mihoatra noho izay rehetra talohako teto Jerosalema.
I bought men-servants and maid-servants, and I had likewise those born in my house; I had also great possessions of cattle and flocks above all that had been before me in Jerusalem.
8 Nihary volafotsy sy volamena koa aho ary fanaka tsara fananan’ ny mpanjaka sy izay avy amin’ ny tany samy hafa; ary nahazo mpihiralahy sy mpihiravavy aho mbamin’ izay mahafinaritra ny zanak’ olombelona, dia vady sy vaditsindrano betsaka.
I gathered unto myself also silver and gold, and the choice treasures of kings and of the provinces: I procured myself male singers and female singers, and the delights of the sons of men, wagons and chariots.
9 Dia efa nisandratra mihoatra noho izay rehetra talohako teto Jerosalema aho; ary ny fahendreko anefa dia mbola tato amiko ihany.
So was I great, and obtained more than all that had been before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.
10 Ary na inona na inona nirin’ ny masoko dia tsy nisy narovako taminy; tsy nisakana ny foko tamin’ izay mety ho fifaliana aho; fa nahazo hafaliana avy tamin’ ny fisasarako rehetra ny foko; ary izany no anjarako avy tamin’ ny fisasarako rehetra.
And whatsoever my eyes desired I refused them not; I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart was rejoiced with all my toil, and this was my portion of all my toil.
11 Kanefa nitodika aho nandinika ny asa rehetra nataon’ ny tanako sy ny fisasarana izay nisasarako, ka, indreo, zava-poana sy misambo-drivotra foana izany rehetra izany, fa tsy nisy nahasoa tatỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro.
But when I turned myself [to look] on all my works that my hands had wrought, and on the toil that I had toiled to accomplish: then, behold, all was vanity and a torture of the spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
12 Ary nitodika aho hijery ny fahendrena sy ny fahaverezan-tsaina ary ny fahadalana; fa inona no hataon’ ny olona izay handimby ny mpanjaka? Izay efa natao hatramin’ ny ela ihany.
And then I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly; for what [can] the man [do] that cometh after the king? [only] that which [others] have done already.
13 Dia hitako fa ny fahendrena dia tsara’ noho ny fahadalana, toy ny fahatsaran ny mazava noho ny maizina.
But I saw indeed that wisdom hath the advantage over folly, as great as the advantage of light over darkness.
14 Ny mason’ ny hendry dia eo an-dohany; fa ny adala kosa mandeha amin’ ny maizina; nefa hitako fa mitovy ihany ny manjo azy roa tonta.
The wise man hath his eyes in his head, while the fool walketh in darkness; but I myself perceived then also that one occurrence will befall all of them.
15 Dia hoy izaho anakampo: Mitovy amin’ ny manjo ny adala ihany ny manjo ahy, koa nahoana ary no nanan-tombom-pahendrena aho? Dia hoy izaho anakampo: zava-poana koa izany.
Then said I in my heart, The same that befalleth the fool will also befall even me: and why have I then been wiser? Then spoke I in my heart, that this is also vanity.
16 Fa samy tsy misy fahatsiarovana mandrakizay na ny hendry na ny adala; fa amin’ ny andro ho avy dia samy ho hadino ela izy. Indrisy! samy ho faty na ny adala na ny hendry.
For there is no recollection of the wise any more than of the fool for ever: seeing that which hath long ago been will, in the days that are coming, all be forgotten. And how doth the wise die equally with the fool!
17 Dia efa halako ny aina, satria nataoko ho ratsy ny asa atao atỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro; fa zava-poana sy misambo-drivotra foana izy rehetra.
Therefore I hated life; because I felt displeased with the work that is wrought under the sun; for all is vanity and a torture of the spirit.
18 Eny, efa halako ny fisasarako rehetra izay nisasarako tatỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro, fa havelako ho an’ ny olona izay handimby ahy izany,
Yea, I hated also all my toil with which I had toiled under the sun; because I should have to leave it unto the man that will be after me.
19 ary iza no mahalala na ho hendry na ho adala izy? Nefa izy no ho tompon’ izay rehetra nisasarako sy nataoko tamin’ ny fahendreko tatỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro. Zava-poana koa izany.
And who knoweth, whether he will be a wise man or a fool? yet will he have full sway over all my toil wherein I have toiled, and wherein I have shown myself wise under the sun. Also this is vanity.
20 Dia nitodika aho hampamoy ny foko amin’ ny fahakiviana ny amin’ ny fisasarana rehetra izay nisasarako tatỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro.
Therefore I turned about to cause my heart to give up thinking of all the toil wherewith I had toiled under the sun.
21 Fa misy olona izay misasatra amin’ ny fahendrena sy ny fahalalana ary ny fahaizana, nefa ny olona izay tsy nisasatra tamin’ izany akory no tsy maintsy hamelany azy ho lovany. Zava-poana sy faharatsiana lehibe koa izany.
For there is many a man whose toil is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and with energy; yet to a man that hath not toiled therefore must he give it as his portion. Also this is vanity and a great evil.
22 Fa inona no azon’ ny olona amin’ ny fisasarany rehetra sy amin’ ny fikatsahan’ ny fony, izay nisasarany tatỳ ambanin’ ny masoandro?
For what doth a man obtain of all his toil, and of the torture of his heart, wherewith he toileth under the sun?
23 Fa ny androny rehetra dia fanaintainana avokoa, ary ny fisasarany dia fahasorisorena; eny, na dia amin’ ny alina aza dia tsy manam-pitsaharana ny fony. Zava-poana koa izany.
For all his days are full of pains, and vexation is [mingled with] his employment: yea, even in the night his heart taketh not rest. Also this is vanity.
24 Tsy misy mahasoa ny olona mihoatra noho ny mihinana sy misotro ary ny mampahafinaritra ny tenany amin’ ny fisasarany. Izany koa aza dia efa hitako fa avy amin’ ny tànan’ Andriamanitra
It is not a good thing [inherent] in man that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy happiness for his toil. Also this have I seen, that it cometh out of the hand of God.
25 (fa iza no mahalany, ary iza no mahazo manaram-po mihoatra noho izaho?).
For who can well eat, or who can enjoy earthly things more than I?
26 Fa ny olona izay ankasitrahan’ Andriamanitra dia omeny fahendrena sy fahalalana ary fifaliana; fa ny mpanota kosa ampiasainy hanangona sy hamory, mba hisy homeny izay ankasitrahan’ Andriamanitra. Zava-poana sy misambo-drivotra foana koa izany.
For to a man who is good in his presence [God] giveth wisdom, and knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he giveth employment, to gather up and to bring together, that he may give it to him that is good before God. Also this is vanity and a torture of the spirit.
