1 Samoela 23

1 Ary nisy nanambara tamin’ i Davida hoe: Indro, ny Filistina mamely an’ i Keila ka mamabo ny ao amin’ ny famoloana.

Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Ke'ilah, and they are plundering the threshing-floors.

2 Ary Davida nanontany tamin’ i Jehovah hoe: Handeha hamely izao Filistina izao va aho? Ary hoy Jehovah tamin’ i Davida: Mandehana, asio ny Filistina, ka vonjeo Keila.

Thereupon David asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite among these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go and smite among the Philistines, and deliver Ke'ilah.

3 Ary hoy ny olon’ i Davida taminy: He! atỳ Joda aza isika matahotra, koa mainka raha mankany Keila hiady amin’ ny miaramilan’ ny Filistina?

And David's men said unto him, Behold, here in Judah are we afraid: how much more then if we should go to Ke'ilah against the battle-arrays of the Philistines?

4 Dia nanontany tamin’ i Jehovah indray Davida. Ary Jehovah namaly azy hoe: Miaingà, midìna hankany Keila, fa Izaho no hanolotra ny Filistina ho eo an-tananao.

Then David asked yet again counsel of the Lord. And the Lord answered him and said, Arise, Go down to Ke'ilah; for I [will] deliver the Philistines into thy hand.

5 Dia lasa Davida sy ny olony nankany Keila ary niady tamin’ ny Filistina ka namabo ny ombiny sady nahafaty olona be dia be. Ary dia voavonjin’ i Davida ny mponina tao Keila.

So David and his men went to Ke'ilah; and he fought with the Philistines, and lead away their cattle, and smote among them a great slaughter. So David delivered the inhabitants of Ke'ilah.

6 Ary raha nandositra nankany amin’ i Davida tany Keila Abiatara, zanak’ i Ahimeleka, dia nitondra efoda teny an-tànany izy.

And it came to pass, when Ebyathar the son of Achimelech, fled over to David, to Ke'ilah, that the ephod came down with him.

7 Ary nambara tamin’ i Saoly fa tonga tao Keila Davida. Dia hoy Saoly: Andriamanitra efa nanolotra azy ho eo an-tanako, satria efa voahidy izy izao noho ny nidirany amin’ ny tanàna misy vavahady mihidy.

And it was told to Saul that David was come to Ke'ilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.

8 Ary Saoly namory ny olona rehetra hidina hankany Keila hanafika ka hanao fahirano an’ i Davida sy ny olony.

And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Ke'ilah, to besiege David and his men.

9 Ary fantatr’ i Davida fa Saoly namorona sain-dratsy hamelezana azy; dia hoy izy tamin’ i Abiatara mpisorona: Ento etỳ ny efoda.

And David understood that Saul secretly devised mischief against him; and he said to Ebyathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

10 Dia hoy Davida: Ry Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny Isiraely ô, efa ren’ ny mpanomponao tokoa fa Saoly mitady hankatỳ Keila mba handrava ny tanana noho ny amiko.

Then said David, O Lord, God of Israel, thy servant hath heard for certain that Saul seeketh to come to Ke'ilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

11 Ka moa ny mponina etỳ Keila hanolotra ahy ho eo an-tànany va? Hidina etỳ va Saoly toy ny efa ren’ ny mpanomponao? Ry Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny Isiraely ô, mifona aminao aho, ambarao amin’ ny mpanomponao. Ary hoy Jehovah: Hidina izy.

Will the men of Ke'ilah surrender me into his hand? will Saul come down as thy servant hath heard? O Lord, God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the Lord said, He will come down.

12 Dia hoy Davida: Ny mponina etỳ Keila hanolotra ahy sy ny oloko ho eo an-tànan’ i Saoly va? Ary hoy Jehovah Hanolotra anao izy.

Then said David, Will the men of Ke'ilah surrender me and my men into the hand of Saul! And the Lord said, They will surrender.

13 Ary dia niainga Davida sy ny olony tokony ho enin-jato lahy ka niala tao Keila ary nandeha tamin’ izay azony naleha. Ary nolazaina tamin’ i Saoly fa efa nandositra niala tao Keila Davida, dia nijanona tsy nandeha izy.

Then arose David and his men, about six hundred men, and departed out of Ke'ilah, and wandered about whithersoever they could go. And when it was told to Saul that David was escaped from Ke'ilah, he forbore to go forth.

14 Ary Davida nitoetra tany an-efitra tao amin’ ny batery fiarovana sy nitoetra tany amin’ ny tany havoana tany an-efitr’ i Zifa. Ary Saoly nitady azy isan’ andro, fa Andriamanitra tsy nanolotra azy ho eo an-tànany.

And David remained in the wilderness in strong-holds, and abode on the mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him all the time, but God delivered him not into his hand.

15 Ary hitan’ i Davida fa Saoly nivoaka hitady ny ainy; fa Davida dia tany an-efitr’ i Zifa tany anaty ala.

And David saw that Saul was gone forth to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the forest.

16 Ary Jonatana, zanak’ i Saoly, niainga, dia nankany amin’ i Davida tany an’ ala ka nampahery ny tànany tamin’ Andriamanitra.

And Jonathan, the son of Saul, arose and went to David into the forest, and strengthened his hand in God.

17 Ary hoy izy tamin’ i Davida: Aza matahotra, fa tsy hahazo anao ny tànan’ i Saoly raiko; fa ianao no ho mpanjaka amin’ ny Isiraely, ary izaho no hanarakaraka anao, ary fantatr’ i Saoly raiko koa izany.

And he said unto him, Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father will not find thee; and thou wilt be king over Israel, and I will be next unto thee; and also Saul my father knoweth this.

18 Ary nanao fanekena teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah izy roa lahy; ary Davida dia nitoetra tany an’ ala, fa Jonatana kosa nankany an-tranony.

And they made, both of them, a covenant before the Lord: and David remained in the forest; but Jonathan went to his house.

19 Ary niakatra nankany amin’ i Saoly tany Gibea ny Zifita ka nanao hoe: Tsy miery any aminay ao amin’ ny batery fiarovana any an’ ala, any amin’ ny havoana Hakila, izay atsimon’ ny efitra, va Davida?

Then came up the Ziphites unto Saul to Gib'ah, saying, Behold, David is hiding himself with us in the strong-holds in the forest, on the hill of Chachilah, which is on the right of the desert.

20 Koa ankehitriny, ry mpanjaka, araka ny fanirian’ ny fonao hidina, dia midìna ianao, fa azonay hatolotra eo an-tànan’ ny mpanjaka izy.

And now in accordance with all the longing of thy soul, O king, to come down, come down; and our part shall be to surrender him into the king's hand.

21 Ary hoy Saoly: Hotahin’ i Jehovah anie ianareo; fa ianareo namindra fo tamiko.

And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the Lord; for ye have pity on me.

22 Masìna ianareo, mandehana, hevero indray, ka tsongoy tsara ny diany, ary fantaro izay nahita azy tany; fa manao saina lalina dia lalina, hono, izy.

Go, I pray you, make yet more preparations, and remark and see his place where his foot may be, who hath seen him there; for I am told that he dealeth with great subtilty.

23 Koa izahao sy fantaro tsara ny fierena rehetra izay iereny, dia miverena etỳ amiko indray hilaza marimarina, ary izaho dia hiaraka aminareo; koa raha mitoetra amin’ ny tany izy, dia hotadiaviko eran’ ny arivon’ i Joda rehetra.

See therefore, and remark every one of all the lurking-places where he usually hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you; and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

24 Dia niainga nankany Zifa ireo hialoha an’ i Saoly; fa Davida sy ny olony dia tany amin’ ny efitr’ i Maona, tamin’ ny tani-hay atsimon’ ny efitra.

And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Ma'on, in the plain on the right of the desert.

25 Ary nandeha Saoly sy ny mpanompony hitady azy. Ary nolazaina tamin’ i Davida izany, ka dia nidina tany amin’ ny harambato izy ka nitoetra tany an-efitr’ i Maona. Ary nony ren’ i Saoly izany, dia nanenjika an’ i Davida tany an-efitr’ i Maona izy.

And Saul and his men went to make a search. And they told it to David: wherefore he came down to the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Ma'on. And when Saul heard this, he pursued after David into the wilderness of Ma'on.

26 Ary Saoly nandeha tamin’ ny ilan’ ny tendrombohitra iray, fa Davida sy ny olony tamin’ ny ilany kosa; ary niezaka mafy handositra Davida noho ny tahony an’ i Saoly; fa Saoly sy ny olony saiky nahodidina an’ i Davida sy ny olony hisambotra azy.

And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David made haste to get away from before Saul; and Saul and his men were compassing David and his men to seize them.

27 Dia nisy iraka tonga tao amin’ i Saoly nanao hoe: Avia haingana ianao, fa ny Filistina efa manafika ny tany.

But a messenger came unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

28 Dia niverina Saoly tamin’ ny nanenjehany an’ i Davida ary nandeha niady tamin’ ny Filistina; ary ny anaran’ izany tany izany dia nataony hoe: Sela-hamalekota.

Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammachlekoth.

29 Ary Davida niakatra niala teo ka nitoetra tao amin’ ny batery fiarovana tany En-jedy.

And David went up from there, and dwelt in strong-holds of 'En-gedi.
