1 Abakozi b’ebibi badduka nga tewali abagoba, naye abatuukirivu babeera n’obuvumu ng’empologoma.
The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
2 Eggwanga bwe lijeema, liba n’abafuzi bangi, naye olw’omuntu alina okutegeera n’okumanya obutebenkevu budda nate mu nsi.
In rebellion, a land has many rulers, but order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge.
3 Omufuzi anyigiriza abaavu, afaanana nga enkuba etonnya ezikiriza n’eterekaawo birime.
A needy man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain which leaves no crops.
4 Abo abava ku mateeka ga Mukama batendereza aboonoonyi, naye abo abagakuuma babawakanya.
Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; but those who keep the law contend with them.
5 Abantu abakozi b’ebibi tebategeera bwenkanya, naye abo abanoonya Mukama babutegeerera ddala bulungi.
Evil men do not understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.
6 Omuntu omwavu atambulira mu butuukirivu, asinga omugagga ow’amakubo amakyamu.
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich.
7 Oyo akuuma amateeka ga Mukama mwana eyeegendereza, naye mukwano gw’ab’omululu akwasa kitaawe ensonyi.
Whoever keeps the law is a wise son; but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.
8 Ayongera ku bugagga bwe mu bukumpanya, abukuŋŋaanyiza omulala anaayinza okuba ow’ekisa eri abaavu.
He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.
9 Atassaayo mwoyo kuwulira mateeka ga Mukama, n’okusaba kwe tekukkirizibwa.
He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
10 Buli akyamya abatuukirivu mu kkubo ebbi, aligwa mu katego ke ye, naye abatuukirivu balisikira ebirungi.
Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he will fall into his own trap; but the blameless will inherit good.
11 Omugagga alowooza nti mugezi, naye omwavu alina okutegeera, amunyooma.
The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him.
12 Abatuukirivu bwe bawangula wabaawo okujaguza okw’amaanyi, naye abakakanyalira mu kukola ebikyamu bwe bafuna obuyinza abantu beekweka.
When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.
13 Oyo akweka ebibi bye, talifuna mukisa kukulaakulana, naye buli abyatula n’abireka, alisaasirwa.
He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14 Alina omukisa omuntu atya Mukama ebbanga lyonna, naye oyo akakanyaza omutima gwe abonaabona.
Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
15 Ng’empologoma ewuluguma oba eddubu eritiisatiisa, bw’abeera omufuzi omubi atulugunya abateesobola.
As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.
16 Omufuzi nantagambwako tafuga na bwenkanya, naye oyo akyawa amagoba agafuniddwa mu bukyamu alibeera n’essanyu ery’obulamu obuwangaazi.
A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment. One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days.
17 Omuntu alumirizibwa olw’okutta munne, alibeera mu kutegana okutuusa okufa, tewabanga n’omu amuyamba.
A man who is tormented by blood guilt will be a fugitive until death. No one will support him.
18 Omuntu atambulira mu bugolokofu alinunulibwa talibeerako kabi, naye oyo ow’amakubo amabi aligwa mbagirawo.
Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.
19 Omuntu alima ennimiro ye aliba n’emmere nnyingi, naye oyo ali mu birowoozo ebitaliimu alifa bwavu.
One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.
20 Omusajja omwesigwa aliweebwa emikisa mingi, naye oyo ayanguyiriza okugaggawala talirema kubonerezebwa.
A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.
21 Okuttira abantu ku liiso ng’osala emisango si kirungi, naye ate olw’okunoonya akookulya omuntu ayinza okuzza omusango.
To show partiality is not good, yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.
22 Omusajja omukodo yeegomba okugaggawala, naye nga tamanyi nti obwavu bumulindiridde.
A stingy man hurries after riches, and does not know that poverty waits for him.
23 Oyo anenya omuntu, oluvannyuma aliganja, okusinga oyo awaaniriza n’olulimi.
One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than one who flatters with the tongue.
24 Buli anyaga kitaawe, oba nnyina, n’agamba nti, “Si nsonga,” afaanana n’oyo azikiriza.
Whoever robs his father or his mother and says, “It’s not wrong,” is a partner with a destroyer.
25 Omuntu ow’omululu aleeta oluyombo, naye oyo eyeesiga Mukama aligaggawazibwa.
One who is greedy stirs up strife; but one who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
26 Eyeesiga omutima gwe, musirusiru, naye oyo atambulira mu magezi alifuna emirembe.
One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
27 Agabira abaavu talibaako ne kye yeetaaga, naye abakodowalira anaabanga n’ebikolimo bingi.
One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses.
28 Abakozi b’ebibi bwe babeera mu buyinza, abantu beekweka, naye abakozi b’ebibi bwe bazikirira, abatuukirivu bakulaakulana.
When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous thrive.
