1 Omwenge mukudaazi, ekitamiiza muleekaanyi, era buli alaga mu kkubo ekyamu olw’ebyo talina magezi.
Wine [is] a mocker, strong drink [is] raging: and whoever is deceived by it is not wise.
2 Obusungu bwa kabaka buli ng’okuwuluguma kw’empologoma, n’oyo amusunguwaza yeefiiriza bulamu bwe.
The fear of a king [is] as the roaring of a lion: [whoever] provoketh him to anger sinneth [against] his own soul.
3 Kya kitiibwa omuntu okwewala entalo, naye buli musirusiru ayagala okuyomba.
[It is] an honor for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
4 Omugayaavu talima mu budde butuufu, kyanaavanga anoonya eby’amakungula nga talina kantu.
The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; [therefore] shall he beg in harvest, and [have] nothing.
5 Ebigendererwa ebiba mu mutima gw’omuntu biba ng’amazzi ag’ebuziba, naye omuntu alina okutegeera alibiggyayo.
Counsel in the heart of man [is like] deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Abantu bangi bagamba nti balina okwagala okutaggwaawo, naye ani ayinza okuzuula omuntu omwesigwa?
Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7 Omuntu omutuukirivu, atambulira mu bulamu obutaliiko kyakunenyezebwa; ba mukisa abaana be abalimuddira mu bigere.
The just [man] walketh in his integrity: his children [are] blessed after him.
8 Kabaka bw’atuula ku ntebe ye ey’obwakabaka ng’asala emisango, amaaso ge gasunsulamu ne gaggyamu ebibi byonna.
A king that sitteth on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9 Ani ayinza okugamba nti, “Ntukuzza omutima gwange, ndi mulongoofu era sirina kibi?”
Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10 Ebipima obuzito ebitatuuka n’ebigera ebikyamu, byombi bya muzizo eri Mukama.
Divers weights, [and] divers measures, both of them [are] alike abomination to the LORD.
11 Omuvubuka naye amanyibwa olw’ebikolwa bye, obanga birongoofu era nga birungi.
Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work [is] pure, and whether [it is] right.
12 Okutu okuwulira n’eriiso eriraba byombi Mukama ye y’abikola.
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
13 Toyagalanga kwebaka oleme kwavuwala, tunula, obeerenga n’ebyokulya bingi.
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thy eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14 “Si kirungi, si kirungi,” bw’ayogera agula; naye bw’agenda n’alyoka yeenyumiririza mu ky’aguze.
[It is] naught, [it is] naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone, then he boasteth.
15 Zaabu n’amayinja ag’omuwendo weebiri, naye emimwa egyogera eby’amagezi kye ky’omuwendo ekisingako.
There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge [are] a precious jewel.
16 Omuntu bw’aleeta ekyambalo kye ne yeeyimiririra gw’atamanyi, kitwalire ddala, na ddala bw’abanga yeeyimiririra omukazi omubambaavu.
Take his garment that is surety [for] a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
17 Emmere enfune mu bukyamu ewooma mu kulya, naye emufuukira amayinja mu kamwa.
Bread of deceit [is] sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18 Kola entegeka nga weebuuza ku magezi, bw’oba onoolangirira olutalo sooka weebuuze.
[Every] purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
19 Oyo agenda ng’asaasaanya olugambo abotola ebyama, noolwekyo weewale omuntu ayogerayogera ennyo ebitaliimu.
He that goeth about [as] a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
20 Omuntu akolimira kitaawe oba nnyina, ettabaaza ye erizikizibwa n’asigala mu kizikiza ekikutte ennyo.
Whoever curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
21 Eby’obusika ebifune ng’ekiseera kyabyo tekinnatuuka, ku nkomerero tebiba na mukisa.
An inheritance [may be] gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end of it shall not be blessed.
22 Toyogera nti, “Nzija kukusasula olw’ekibi kino!” Lindirira Mukama alikuyamba.
Say not thou, I will recompense evil; [but] wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
23 Ebipima ebikyamu bya muzizo eri Mukama, ne minzaani ez’obulimba tezisanyusa.
Divers weights [are] an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance [is] not good.
24 Amakubo g’omuntu gategekebwa Mukama, omuntu ayinza atya okutegeera ekkubo lya Mukama?
Man's goings [are] of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
25 Kyambika eri omuntu okwanguyiriza okweyama eri Mukama, naye oluvannyuma n’afumiitiriza ku bye yeeyamye.
[It is] a snare to the man [who] devoureth [that which is] holy, and after vows to make inquiry.
26 Kabaka omugezi asengejja n’aggyamu abakozi b’ebibi, n’ababonereza awatali kusaasira.
A wise king scatterreth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27 Ettabaaza ya Mukama ekebera omwoyo gw’omuntu, n’enoonya mu bitundu eby’omunda ennyo.
The spirit of man [is] the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
28 Okwagala n’obwesigwa bikuuma kabaka mu butebenkevu, era obufuzi bwe bunywezebwa na kwagala.
Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upheld by mercy.
29 Amaanyi kye kitiibwa ky’abavubuka, envi kye kitiibwa ky’abakadde.
The glory of young men [is] their strength: and the beauty of old men [is] the gray head.
30 Emiggo n’ebiwundu biggyawo ebibi, n’embooko zitereeza ebifo eby’omunda ennyo.
The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so [do] stripes the inward parts of the belly.
