1 Omwenge mukudaazi, ekitamiiza muleekaanyi, era buli alaga mu kkubo ekyamu olw’ebyo talina magezi.
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And he that reeleth with it is not wise.
2 Obusungu bwa kabaka buli ng’okuwuluguma kw’empologoma, n’oyo amusunguwaza yeefiiriza bulamu bwe.
The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion; He who provoketh him sinneth against himself.
3 Kya kitiibwa omuntu okwewala entalo, naye buli musirusiru ayagala okuyomba.
It is an honor to a man to cease from strife; Bur every fool rusheth into it.
4 Omugayaavu talima mu budde butuufu, kyanaavanga anoonya eby’amakungula nga talina kantu.
The sluggard will not plough by reason of the cold; Therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 Ebigendererwa ebiba mu mutima gw’omuntu biba ng’amazzi ag’ebuziba, naye omuntu alina okutegeera alibiggyayo.
A design in the heart of a man is like deep waters; But a man of understanding draweth it out.
6 Abantu bangi bagamba nti balina okwagala okutaggwaawo, naye ani ayinza okuzuula omuntu omwesigwa?
Many will proclaim their own kindness; But a faithful man who can find?
7 Omuntu omutuukirivu, atambulira mu bulamu obutaliiko kyakunenyezebwa; ba mukisa abaana be abalimuddira mu bigere.
He who walketh in his integrity is a righteous man; Happy will be his children after him!
8 Kabaka bw’atuula ku ntebe ye ey’obwakabaka ng’asala emisango, amaaso ge gasunsulamu ne gaggyamu ebibi byonna.
The king, sitting upon the throne of judgment, Scattereth with his eyes all the wicked like chaff.
9 Ani ayinza okugamba nti, “Ntukuzza omutima gwange, ndi mulongoofu era sirina kibi?”
Who can say, “I have kept my heart clean; I am free from my sin?”
10 Ebipima obuzito ebitatuuka n’ebigera ebikyamu, byombi bya muzizo eri Mukama.
Divers weights and divers measures, —Both of them are an abomination to the LORD.
11 Omuvubuka naye amanyibwa olw’ebikolwa bye, obanga birongoofu era nga birungi.
Even in childhood one maketh himself known by his doings, Whether his actions will be pure and right.
12 Okutu okuwulira n’eriiso eriraba byombi Mukama ye y’abikola.
The ear that heareth, and the eye that seeth, —The LORD made them both.
13 Toyagalanga kwebaka oleme kwavuwala, tunula, obeerenga n’ebyokulya bingi.
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; Open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14 “Si kirungi, si kirungi,” bw’ayogera agula; naye bw’agenda n’alyoka yeenyumiririza mu ky’aguze.
“Bad! bad!” saith the buyer; But when he hath gone his way, then he boasteth.
15 Zaabu n’amayinja ag’omuwendo weebiri, naye emimwa egyogera eby’amagezi kye ky’omuwendo ekisingako.
There is gold and abundance of pearls; But the lips of knowledge are a precious vase.
16 Omuntu bw’aleeta ekyambalo kye ne yeeyimiririra gw’atamanyi, kitwalire ddala, na ddala bw’abanga yeeyimiririra omukazi omubambaavu.
Take his garment who is surety for another; Yea, take a pledge of him who is bound for a stranger.
17 Emmere enfune mu bukyamu ewooma mu kulya, naye emufuukira amayinja mu kamwa.
The bread of falsehood is sweet to a man; But afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
18 Kola entegeka nga weebuuza ku magezi, bw’oba onoolangirira olutalo sooka weebuuze.
Purposes are established by counsel; Therefore with good advice make war.
19 Oyo agenda ng’asaasaanya olugambo abotola ebyama, noolwekyo weewale omuntu ayogerayogera ennyo ebitaliimu.
He who goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; Therefore associate not with him who keepeth open his lips.
20 Omuntu akolimira kitaawe oba nnyina, ettabaaza ye erizikizibwa n’asigala mu kizikiza ekikutte ennyo.
Whoso curseth his father or his mother, His lamp shall be put out in midnight darkness.
21 Eby’obusika ebifune ng’ekiseera kyabyo tekinnatuuka, ku nkomerero tebiba na mukisa.
A possession may be gotten hastily in the beginning, But in the end it will not be blessed.
22 Toyogera nti, “Nzija kukusasula olw’ekibi kino!” Lindirira Mukama alikuyamba.
Say not thou, “I will repay evil;” Wait on the LORD, and he will help thee.
23 Ebipima ebikyamu bya muzizo eri Mukama, ne minzaani ez’obulimba tezisanyusa.
Divers weights are an abomination to the LORD, And a false balance is not good.
24 Amakubo g’omuntu gategekebwa Mukama, omuntu ayinza atya okutegeera ekkubo lya Mukama?
A man's steps are from the LORD; How, then, can a man understand his way?
25 Kyambika eri omuntu okwanguyiriza okweyama eri Mukama, naye oluvannyuma n’afumiitiriza ku bye yeeyamye.
It is a snare to a man to utter a vow rashly, And after vows to consider.
26 Kabaka omugezi asengejja n’aggyamu abakozi b’ebibi, n’ababonereza awatali kusaasira.
A wise king scattereth the wicked like chaff, And bringeth over them the wheel.
27 Ettabaaza ya Mukama ekebera omwoyo gw’omuntu, n’enoonya mu bitundu eby’omunda ennyo.
The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Which searcheth all the inner chambers of his body.
28 Okwagala n’obwesigwa bikuuma kabaka mu butebenkevu, era obufuzi bwe bunywezebwa na kwagala.
Mercy and truth preserve the king; Yea, his throne is upholden by mercy.
29 Amaanyi kye kitiibwa ky’abavubuka, envi kye kitiibwa ky’abakadde.
The glory of young men is their strength, And the beauty of old men is the gray head.
30 Emiggo n’ebiwundu biggyawo ebibi, n’embooko zitereeza ebifo eby’omunda ennyo.
Wounding stripes are the remedy for a bad man; Yea, stripes which reach to the inner chambers of the body.
