< Engero 19 >
1 Omuntu omwavu atambulira mu butuukirivu, asinga akamwa ak’omusirusiru akaweebuula.
Better a poor man who walks with integrity than a fool whose lips are perverse.
2 Si kirungi okuba omujjumbize naye nga tolina kumanya, n’okwanguyiriza okukola ekintu kuleetera omuntu okukwata ekkubo ekyamu.
Even zeal is no good without knowledge, and he who hurries his footsteps misses the mark.
3 Obusirusiru bw’omuntu bwe bwonoona obulamu bwe, kyokka omutima gwe ne gunenya Mukama.
A man’s own folly subverts his way, yet his heart rages against the LORD.
4 Obugagga buleeta emikwano mingi, naye emikwano gy’omwavu gimuddukako.
Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.
5 Omujulizi ow’obulimba talirema kubonerezebwa, era oyo ayogera eby’obulimba taliba na buddukiro.
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape.
6 Bangi banoonya okuganja mu maaso g’omufuzi, era buli muntu aba mukwano gw’oyo agaba ebirabo.
Many seek the favor of the prince, and everyone is a friend of the gift giver.
7 Baganda b’omwavu bonna bamwewala, mikwano gye tebaasingewo nnyo okumwewala? Wadde abagoberera ng’abeegayirira, naye tabalaba.
All the brothers of a poor man hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with pleading, but they are nowhere to be found.
8 Oyo afuna amagezi ayagala emmeeme ye, n’oyo asanyukira okutegeera, akulaakulana.
He who acquires wisdom loves himself; one who safeguards understanding will find success.
9 Omujulizi ow’obulimba talirema kubonerezebwa, n’oyo ayogera eby’obulimba alizikirira.
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who pours out lies will perish.
10 Omusirusiru tasaana kubeera mu bulamu bwa kwejalabya, kale kiwulikika kitya ng’omuddu afuga abalangira?
Luxury is unseemly for a fool— how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!
11 Omuntu omutegeevu alwawo okusunguwala, era kiba kya kitiibwa obutafa ku bye bamusobezza.
A man’s insight gives him patience, and his virtue is to overlook an offense.
12 Obusungu bwa kabaka buli ng’okuwuluguma kw’empologoma, naye ekisa kye kiri ng’omusulo ku ssubi.
A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
13 Omwana omusirusiru aleetera kitaawe okuzikirira, n’omukazi omuyombi ali ng’enkuba etonnya olutata.
A foolish son is his father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.
14 Ennyumba n’obugagga bisikirwa okuva ku bazadde, naye omukazi omutegeevu ava eri Mukama.
Houses and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 Obugayaavu buleeta otulo tungi, n’omuntu atakola mirimu alirumwa enjala.
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.
16 Oyo akwata ebiragiro akuuma obulamu bwe, naye oyo eyeeyisa mu ngeri embi alifa.
He who keeps a commandment preserves his soul, but he who is careless in his ways will die.
17 Oyo akwatirwa omwavu ekisa awola Mukama, era Mukama alimusasula olw’ekikolwa kye ekyo.
Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.
18 Kangavvulanga omwana wo kubanga mu ekyo mulimu essuubi, oleme kumuwaayo mu kuzikirira.
Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be party to his death.
19 Omuntu omukambwe ennyo alisasula ebiriva mu bukambwe bwe, kubanga ne bw’omununula ogusooka era oteekwa okukiddiŋŋaana.
A man of great anger must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do so again.
20 Ssangayo omwoyo ku magezi agakuweebwa ne ku kuyigirizibwa, oluvannyuma lwa byonna oliba n’amagezi.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
21 Enteekateeka z’omuntu ziba nnyingi mu mutima gwe; byo ebigendererwa bya Mukama bituukirira.
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the LORD will prevail.
22 Ekintu omuntu kye yeegomba kwe kwagala okutaggwaawo, okuba omwavu kisinga okuba omulimba.
The desire of a man is loving devotion; better to be poor than a liar.
23 Okutya Mukama kutuusa mu bulamu; olwo omuntu n’awummula nga mumativu nga tatuukiddwako kabi.
The fear of the LORD leads to life, that one may rest content, without visitation from harm.
24 Omugayaavu annyika omukono gwe mu kibya, n’atagukomyawo nate ku mumwa gwe.
The slacker buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth.
25 Kangavvula omunyoomi, abatamanyi bayigire ku ye, buulirira ategeera, ajja kweyongera okutegeera.
Strike a mocker, and the simple will beware; rebuke the discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.
26 Omwana abba ebya kitaawe n’agobaganya ne nnyina, aleeta obuswavu n’obuyinike.
He who assaults his father or evicts his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
27 Mwana wange konoolekayo okuyigirizibwa, onoowaba okuva ku bigambo by’okumanya.
If you cease to hear instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 Omujulizi omulimba atyoboola ensala ey’amazima, n’akamwa k’ababi, kavaabira ebitali bya butuukirivu.
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.
29 Ebibonerezo bitekebwawo kukangavvula banyoomi, n’embooko zaakolebwa lwa migongo gy’abasirusiru.
Judgments are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
