1 Okulya akamere akaluma awali emirembe, kisinga okuba mu nnyumba ejjudde ebyassava nga mulimu entalo.

2 Omuddu omugezi alifuga omwana wa bowo akwasa ensonyi, era alifuna ebyobusika ng’omu ku baana b’awaka.

3 Entamu erongoosa yakolebwa lwa ffeeza, n’ekikoomi ky’okulongoosa lwa zaabu, naye Mukama agezesa emitima.
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the hearts.
4 Omubi assaayo omwoyo eri eby’obulimba, era n’omulimba awuliriza olulimi olukuusa.
An evildoer heeds wicked lips. A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Oyo akudaalira omwavu avvoola eyamutonda, n’oyo asanyukira obuyinike bw’abalala talirema kubonerezebwa.
Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
6 Abazzukulu ngule ya bajjajjaabwe, era n’abaana beenyumiririza mu bakadde baabwe.
Children’s children are the crown of old men; the glory of children is their parents.
7 Enjogerannungi teba ya musirusiru, ng’oweekitiibwa bw’atasaana kwogera bya bulimba.
Excellent speech isn’t fitting for a fool, much less do lying lips fit a prince.
8 Enguzi eri ng’ejjinja ery’omufuusa mu maaso g’oyo agigaba, alowooza nti buli gy’akyukira eneemuyamba.
A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.
9 Okwagala tekulondoola nsobi, naye oyo atasonyiwa nsobi akyawaganya ab’omukwano enfirabulago.
He who covers an offense promotes love; but he who repeats a matter separates best friends.
10 Okunenya kuyamba nnyo omuntu ategeera, okusinga okukuba omusirusiru embooko ekikumi.

11 Omukozi w’ebibi anoonya bujeemu bwereere, era kyaliva asindikirwa omubaka omukambwe.
An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Okusisinkana eddubu enyagiddwako abaana baayo, kisinga okusisinkana omusirusiru mu busirusiru bwe.
Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Omuntu bw’asasula ekibi olw’obulungi, ekibi tekiriva mu nnyumba ye.
Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Okutandika oluyombo kuli ng’omuntu bw’asumulula omudumu gw’amazzi, noolwekyo vvaawo ng’oluyombo terunnatandika.

He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
16 Omusirusiru agasibwa ki okuba ne ssente ezisasulibwa amagezi, ng’ate ye talina mutima gwegomba magezi?
Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?
17 Omukwano ogw’amagezi guba gwa lubeerera, era owooluganda yeesigibwa mu biro eby’ennaku.
A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.
18 Omuntu atalina magezi awa obweyamo ne yeetema okusasula amabanja ga muliraanwa we.
A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.
19 Oyo ayagala ekibi anyumirwa ennyombo, n’oyo akola omulyango omunene ogw’omu maaso gwa bbugwe ye nga guyitiridde obunene gulimuteganya nnyo.
He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
20 Omuntu ow’omutima omubambaavu takulaakulana, n’oyo ow’olulimi olulimba agwa mu katyabaga.
One who has a perverse heart doesn’t find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.
21 Omwana omusirusiru aleetera kitaawe obuyinike, kitaawe w’omusirusiru taba na ssanyu.
He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy.
22 Omutima ogw’essanyu ddagala ddungi, naye omwoyo omunyiikaavu gukozza omubiri.
A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
23 Omuntu omubi alya enguzi mu kyama, alyoke aziyize amazima okweyoleka.
A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.
24 Omuntu omutegeevu, ebirowoozo abissa eri amagezi, naye amaaso g’omusirusiru gasamaalirira ensi gy’ekoma.
Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.
25 Omwana omusirusiru buyinike eri kitaawe, era aleeta ennaku eri nnyina eyamuzaala.
A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
26 Si kirungi okuweesa omutuukirivu engassi ey’obwereere wadde okukuba ab’ekitiibwa embooko olw’obwesimbu bwabwe.
Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.
27 Omuntu omwegendereza mu bigambo bye abeera n’okutegeera, n’oyo alina omwoyo omuteefu aba muntu wa magezi.
He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
28 Omusirusiru bw’asirika alowoozebwa okuba n’amugezi, era aba mutegeevu bw’afuga akamwa ke.
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
