1 Okuddamu n’eggonjebwa kumalawo ekiruyi, naye ekigambo eky’obukambwe kisaanuula obusungu.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
2 Olulimi lw’omugezi lwogera by’amagezi, naye akamwa k’abasirusiru kafukumula busirusiru bwereere.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools gush out folly.
3 Amaaso ga Mukama galaba buli wantu, alaba abatuukirivu n’abakozi b’ebibi.
The LORD’s eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
4 Olulimi oluzimba muti gwa bulamu, naye olulimi olulimba lubetenta omutima.
A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but deceit in it crushes the spirit.
5 Omusirusiru anyooma okubuulirirwa kwa kitaawe, naye omutegeevu assaayo omwoyo eri okunenyezebwa.
A fool despises his father’s correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence.
6 Mu nnyumba y’omutuukirivu mubaamu obugagga bungi, naye omukozi w’ebibi by’afuna, bimuleetera emitawaana.
In the house of the righteous is much treasure, but the income of the wicked brings trouble.
7 Akamwa k’amagezi kabunyisa okumanya, naye omutima gw’abasirusiru si bwe gukola.
The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.
8 Ssaddaaka y’aboonoonyi ya muzizo eri Mukama, naye okusaba kw’abalongoofu lye ssanyu lye.
The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 Ekkubo ly’omwonoonyi lya muzizo eri Mukama, naye Mukama ayagala oyo anoonya obutuukirivu.
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but he loves him who follows after righteousness.
10 Oyo aleka ekkubo ettuufu alikangavvulwa n’amaanyi, n’oyo akyawa okunenyezebwa alifa.
There is stern discipline for one who forsakes the way. Whoever hates reproof shall die.
11 Okufa n’okuzikirira biri mu maaso ga Mukama, n’okulaba alaba nnyo emitima gy’abaana b’abantu! (Sheol h7585)
Sheol and Abaddon are before the LORD— how much more then the hearts of the children of men! (Sheol h7585)
12 Omunyoomi tayagala kunenyezebwa, era teeyeebuuza ku b’amagezi.
A scoffer doesn’t love to be reproved; he will not go to the wise.
13 Omutima omusanyufu guleeta essanyu ku maaso, naye omutima omunyiikaavu gunafuya emmeeme.
A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but an aching heart breaks the spirit.
14 Omutima omutegeevu gunoonya okumanya, naye akamwa k’abasirusiru kalya busirusiru.
The heart of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
15 Omuntu bw’aba omunyiikaavu, buli kimu kimwononekera, naye omutima omusanyufu gujaguza buli kaseera.
All the days of the afflicted are wretched, but one who has a cheerful heart enjoys a continual feast.
16 Okuba n’akatono ng’otya Mukama, kusinga okuba n’ebingi naye ng’oli mu mitawaana.
Better is little, with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure with trouble.
17 Okulya emmere ng’eriko enva endiirwa awali okwagalana, kisinga okuliirako ebyassava awali obukyayi.
Better is a dinner of herbs, where love is, than a fattened calf with hatred.
18 Omuntu asunguwala amangu asaanuula oluyombo, naye omugumiikiriza akakkanya embeera.
A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.
19 Ekkubo ly’omugayaavu lijjula amaggwa, naye ekkubo ly’omutuukirivu golokofu.
The way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway.
20 Omwana omugezi asanyusa kitaawe, naye omuntu omusirusiru anyooma nnyina.
A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother.
21 Obusirusiru ssanyu eri oyo atalina magezi, naye omuntu ategeera atambulira mu kkubo eggolokofu.
Folly is joy to one who is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding keeps his way straight.
22 Awatali kuluŋŋamizibwa entegeka zifa, naye awali abawi b’amagezi abangi ziyitamu.
Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counsellors they are established.
23 Okuddamu obulungi kisanyusa, era kirungi ekigambo ekirungi okujjira mu kiseera ekituufu.
Joy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time!
24 Ekkubo ery’obulamu liyimusa omugezi, ne limuziyiza okukka emagombe. (Sheol h7585)
The path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
25 Mukama azikiriza ennyumba y’ab’amalala, kyokka akuuma ensalo za nnamwandu.
The LORD will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow’s borders intact.
26 Enkwe za muzizo eri Mukama, naye ebigambo ebisaanidde, bimusanyusa.
The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing.
27 Oyo anoonya okugaggawalira mu bukyamu aleetera ennyumba ye emitawaana, naye oyo akyawa enguzi aliba mulamu.
He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.
28 Omutima gw’omutuukirivu gufumiitiriza bye gunaayanukula, naye akamwa k’omwonoonyi kafubutula ebitasaana.
The heart of the righteous weighs answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil.
29 Mukama ali wala n’aboonoonyi, naye awulira okusaba kw’abatuukirivu.
The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 Amaaso agajjudde essanyu gasanyusa omutima, n’amawulire amalungi galeetera amagumba obulamu.
The light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news gives health to the bones.
31 Oyo assaayo omwoyo eri okunenyezebwa okuleeta obulamu, alituula wamu n’abagezi.
The ear that listens to reproof lives, and will be at home amongst the wise.
32 Agayaalirira okubuulirirwa yeerumya yekka, naye oyo assaayo omwoyo eri okunenyezebwa afuna okutegeera.
He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gets understanding.
33 Okutya Mukama kuyigiriza omuntu amagezi, n’obwetoowaze kye kitiibwa ky’omuntu oyo.
The fear of the LORD teaches wisdom. Before honour is humility.
