1 Engero za Sulemaani: Omwana ow’amagezi asanyusa kitaawe; naye omwana omusirusiru anakuwaza nnyina.

2 Eby’obugagga ebifuniddwa mu makubo amakyamu tebirina kye bigasa, naye abatuukirivu banunulwa okuva mu kufa.

3 Mukama taalekenga mutuukirivu we kufa njala, naye aziyiza abakozi b’ebibi okufuna bye beetaaga.
The Lord doesn't let good people go hungry, but he stops the wicked from getting what they want.
4 Emikono emigayaavu gyavuwaza, naye emikono eminyiikivu gireeta obugagga.

A son who gathers crops during the summer is sensible, but the one who sleeps during harvest brings disgrace.

Those who are good are blessed, but what the wicked say hides their violent nature.
7 Omutuukirivu anajjukirwanga n’essanyu, naye erinnya ly’omubi linaavundanga.
The good are remembered as a blessing, but the reputation of the wicked will rot.
8 Alina omutima ogw’amagezi agondera ebiragiro, naye omusirusiru ayogerayogera, azikirizibwa.
Those who think wisely pay attention to instruction, but a stupid chatterbox ends up in disaster.
9 Atambulira mu bwesimbu y’atambula emirembe, naye akwata amakubo amakyamu alitegeerebwa.
Honest people will live in safety, but those who behave deceitfully will be caught out.
10 Oyo atta ku liiso ng’akweka amazima aleeta ennaku, n’omusirusiru ayogerayogera alizikirizibwa.
People who wink slyly cause trouble, but someone who gives a strong rebuke brings peace.
11 Akamwa ak’omutuukirivu nsulo ya bulamu, naye akamwa k’omukozi w’ebibi kajjula bulabe.
What good people say is a spring that gives life, but what the wicked say hides their violent nature.
12 Obukyayi buleeta enjawukana, naye okwagala kubikka ku bibi bingi.
Hatred causes conflict, but love covers all wrongs.
13 Amagezi gasangibwa ku mimwa gy’oyo alina okutegeera, naye omuggo gukangavvula oyo atamanyi kusalawo bulungi.
Wisdom comes from people with good judgment, but stupid people are punished with a rod.
14 Abantu ab’amagezi batereka okumanya, naye akamwa k’omusirusiru kaaniriza kuzikirira.
Wise people accumulate knowledge, but the chattering of stupid people is a prelude to disaster.
15 Obugagga bw’omugagga kye kibuga kye ekiriko ebigo, naye obwavu kwe kuzikirira kw’omwavu.
The wealth of the rich provides them protection, while the poverty of the poor ruins them.
16 Empeera y’omutuukirivu bulamu, naye empeera y’omukozi w’ebibi emuleetera kubonerezebwa.
If you do right you're rewarded with life, but if you're wicked all you gain is sin.
17 Oyo assaayo omwoyo eri okubuulirirwa aba mu kkubo ery’obulamu, naye oyo atassaayo mwoyo ku kunenyezebwa aleetera abalala okuwaba.
If you accept instruction, you're on the path to life, but if you reject correction you'll go astray.
18 Oyo akisa obukyayi alina emimwa egirimba, era omuntu akonjera, musirusiru.
Anyone who hides their hatred is lying, and anyone who spreads slander is stupid.
19 Mu bigambo ebingi temubula kwonoona, naye akuuma olulimi lwe aba wa magezi.
If you talk too much, you'll say something wrong. Be wise and take care what you say.

The Lord's blessing makes you rich, and he doesn't add any sadness to accompany it.

Stupid people think it's fun to do wrong, but someone who has wisdom understands what's right.
24 Omukozi w’ebibi ky’atayagala kirimutuukako, naye abatuukirivu bye baagala biribaweebwa.
What the wicked fear will happen to them, while what good people hope for will be granted.
25 Embuyaga bw’ejja, abakozi b’ebibi batwalibwa, naye abatuukirivu banywera emirembe gyonna.
When the storm hits, the wicked are no more, but the good are safe and secure forever.
26 Ng’omususa bwe gunyeenyeza amannyo, n’omukka nga bwe gubalagala mu maaso, n’omugayaavu bw’abeera bw’atyo eri abamutuma.
In the same way vinegar irritates the teeth and smoke irritates the eyes, lazy people irritate their employers.
27 Okutya Mukama kuwangaaza omuntu, naye emyaka gy’ababi girisalibwako.
Honoring the Lord makes your life longer, but the years the wicked live will be cut short.

Good people look forward to happiness, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
29 Ekkubo lya Mukama kye kiddukiro ky’abatuukirivu, naye abakozi b’ebibi libasaanyaawo.
The way of the Lord protects those who do right, but he destroys those who do evil.
30 Abatuukirivu tebajjululwenga ennaku zonna, naye abakozi b’ebibi tebalisigala mu nsi.
The good will never be removed from the land, but the wicked will not remain there.
31 Akamwa k’omutuukirivu koogera eby’amagezi, naye olulimi olwogera eby’obubambavu lulisalibwamu.
What good people say produces wisdom, but liars will have their tongues cut out.
32 Emimwa gy’omutuukirivu gyogera ebisaanidde; naye emimwa gy’omukozi w’ebibi gyogera eby’obubambavu.
Good people know the right thing to say, but the wicked always lie.
