< Okubala 25 >
1 Isirayiri bwe yali mu Sitimu, abasajja ne batandika okwenda n’abakazi ba Mowaabu,
And Israel remained among the acacias, —and the people began to go away unchastely unto the daughters of Moab;
2 abaabayitanga ku kuwaayo ebiweebwayo eri bakatonda baabwe. Abaana ba Isirayiri ne balya era ne bavuunamira bakatonda abo.
who invited the people unto the sacrifices of their gods, —so the people did eat, and did bow themselves down unto their gods.
3 Bw’atyo Isirayiri n’ayingirira eby’okusinzanga Baali ow’e Peoli. Obusungu bwa Mukama ne bubabuubuukirako.
Thus Israel let himself be bound unto Baal-peor, and the anger of Yahweh kindled upon Israel.
4 Mukama n’agamba Musa nti, “Kwata abakulembeze b’abantu bano obatte, obaanike mu maaso ga Mukama abantu bonna we babalabira, obusungu bwa Mukama bulyoke bukkakkane buve ku Isirayiri.”
And Yahweh said unto Moses—Take all the heads of the people, and crucify them unto Yahweh. in the face of the sun, —that the heat of the anger of Yahweh may turn away from Israel.
5 Musa n’agamba abalamuzi ba Isirayiri nti, “Buli omu ku mmwe atte abo abali mu mmwe abeegasse mu kusinza Baali ow’e Peoli.”
And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, —Slay ye each one his men, who have let themselves he bound unto Baal-peor.
6 Kale, laba, omusajja omu ku baana ba Isirayiri n’aleeta mu maka ge omukazi Omumidiyaani awo mu maaso ga Musa, nga n’ekibiina kyonna ekya Isirayiri bali awo bakaabira mu mulyango gwa Weema ey’Okukuŋŋaanirangamu.
And lo! a man of the sons of Israel coming in, who brought near unto his brethren a Midianite woman, before the eyes of Moses, and before the eyes of all the assembly of the sons of Israel, when they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
7 Naye Finekaasi mutabani wa Eriyazaali, mutabani wa Alooni kabona, bwe yakiraba, n’asituka mu kibiina n’akwata effumu mu mukono gwe
And Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest saw it, so he rose up out of the midst of the assembly, and took a spear in his hand;
8 n’agoberera Omuyisirayiri n’amutuusa mu weema. Bombi n’abafumita effumu ne liyita mu Muyisirayiri ne liggukira ne mu mubiri gw’omukazi, ne libayitamu bombi. Awo kawumpuli eyali alumbye abaana ba Isirayiri n’akoma.
and went in after the man of Israel into the pleasure-tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman, in her parts of shame, —so the plague was restrained from against the sons of Israel.
9 N’abo abaafa kawumpuli baawera emitwalo ebiri mu enkumi nnya.
Then was it found that they who had died by the plague were four and twenty thousand.
10 Mukama n’agamba Musa nti,
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses saying:
11 “Finekaasi mutabani wa Eriyazaali, mutabani wa Alooni kabona, ankyusisizza obusungu bwange ne mbuggya ku baana ba Isirayiri; kubanga obusungu bwe bwabuubuuka nnyo ng’obwange olw’obutafaayo ku kitiibwa kyange, kyenvudde sibazikiriza kubamalawo.
Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, hath turned back my wrath from against the sons of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy, in their midst, so that I made not an end of the sons of Israel. in my jealousy.
12 Noolwekyo mutegeeze nti, ‘Laba nkola naye endagaano ey’emirembe.
Wherefore say, —Behold me! giving unto him my covenant of peace;
13 Ye, ne bazzukulu be bonna banaabanga mu ndagaano ey’obwakabona obw’emirembe gyonna, kubanga yasunguwalira abaana ba Isirayiri olw’okutyoboola ekitiibwa kya Katonda we, n’abatangiririra.’”
so shall it prove to be unto him and unto his seed after him, the covenant of our age-abiding priesthood, because he was jealous for his God, and did put a propitiatory-covering over the sons of Israel.
14 Omusajja Omuyisirayiri eyattirwa awamu n’omukazi Omumidiyaani yali Zimuli mutabani wa Salu eyali omukulembeze mu kika kya Simyoni.
Now, the name of the man of Israel that was smitten, who was smitten with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri son of Salu, —prince of an ancestral house of the Simeonites;
15 N’erinnya ly’omukazi Omumidiyaani eyattibwa nga ye Kozebi muwala wa Zuuli, eyali omukulembeze mu kimu ku bika bya Midiyaani.
and, the name of the woman who was smitten, the Midianitess, was Cozbi, daughter of Zur, —the head of his kindred, of an ancestral house in Midian, was he.
16 Mukama n’agamba Musa nti,
And Yahweh spake unto Moses saying:
17 “Abamidiyaani obayigganyanga n’obatta,
Besiege the Midianites, —and ye shall smite them:
18 kubanga baayagala okubazikiriza n’enkwe zaabwe bwe baabakyamya e Peoli, n’olwa Kozebi muwala w’omukulembeze w’e Midiyaani, omukazi oyo eyattibwa ku lunaku okwajjira kawumpuli olw’ebyo ebyali e Peoli.”
for, besiegers, were they unto you, with their wiles wherewith they beguiled you, over the matter of Peor, —and over he matter of Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who was smitten in the day of the plague, over the matter of Peor.
