< Matayo 2 >
1 Yesu bwe yazaalibwa mu kibuga Besirekemu eky’omu Buyudaaya, ku mulembe gwa Kabaka Kerode, abasajja abagezigezi, abaava ebuvanjuba ne bajja mu Yerusaalemi, nga babuuza nti,
And Jesus having been born in Beth-Lehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the east came to Jerusalem,
2 “Aliwa eyazaalibwa nga Kabaka w’Abayudaaya? Kubanga twalaba emmunyeenye ye nga tuli mu buvanjuba, era tuzze okumusinza.”
saying, “Where is He who was born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east, and we came to worship Him.”
3 Awo Kabaka Kerode bwe yabiwulira ne bimweraliikiriza nnyo, era ne bonna abaali mu Yerusaalemi.
And Herod the king having heard, was stirred, and all Jerusalem with him,
4 N’ayita bakabona abakulu bonna n’abawandiisi b’amateeka n’abeebuuzaako ekifo Kristo gye yali agenda okuzaalibwa.
and having gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he was inquiring from them where the Christ is born.
5 Ne bamuddamu nti, “Mu Besirekemu eky’omu Buyudaaya, kyawandiikibwa nnabbi nti,
And they said to him, “In Beth-Lehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet:
6 “‘Naawe Besirekemu ekya Yuda, toli mutono mu balangira ba Yuda, kubanga omufuzi aliva mu ggwe, alifuga abantu bange Isirayiri.’”
And you, Beth-Lehem, the land of Judah, you are by no means the least among the leaders of Judah, for out of you will come One leading, who will feed My people Israel.”
7 Awo Kerode n’atumya Abagezigezi kyama, n’ababuuza ebiro emmunyeenye bye yalabikiramu.
Then Herod, having called the magi privately, inquired exactly from them the time of the appearing star,
8 N’abasindika e Besirekemu ng’agamba nti, “Mugende mubuulirize ebikwata ku mwana. Bwe mumulaba, mukomeewo muntegeeze, nange ŋŋende musinze!”
and having sent them to Beth-Lehem, he said, “Having gone—inquire exactly for the Child, and whenever you may have found, bring me back word, that I also having come may worship Him.”
9 Bwe baamala okuwulira Kabaka bye yabagamba ne bagenda. Bwe baafuluma, emmunyeenye eri gye baalaba ebuvanjuba n’eddamu okubalabikira n’okubakulembera, okutuusa lwe yayimirira waggulu Omwana w’ali.
And they, having heard the king, departed, and behold, the star, that they saw in the east, went before them, until, having come, it stood over where the Child was.
10 Bwe baalaba emmunyeenye ng’eyimiridde, essanyu lyabwe ne libeera lingi nnyo!
And having seen the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy,
11 Bwe baayingira mu nnyumba ne balaba Omwana ne Maliyamu nnyina ne bavuunama ne basinza Omwana. Ne basumulula ensawo zaabwe, ne bamutonera ebirabo, zaabu, n’obubaane n’omugavu.
and having come into the house, they found the Child with His mother Mary, and having fallen down they worshiped Him, and having opened their treasures, they presented to Him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh,
12 Awo bwe baalabulibwa mu kirooto baleme kuddayo wa Kerode, bwe batyo ne baddayo ewaabwe nga bayita mu kkubo eddala.
and having been divinely warned in a dream not to return to Herod, through another way they withdrew to their own region.
13 Awo abagezigezi bwe baamala okugenda, malayika wa Mukama n’alabikira Yusufu mu kirooto n’amugamba nti, “Golokoka oddusize Omwana ne nnyina e Misiri, mubeere eyo okutuusa lwe ndibalagira okudda. Kubanga Kerode ajja kunoonya Omwana ng’ayagala okumutta.”
And on their having withdrawn, behold, a messenger of the LORD appears in a dream to Joseph, saying, “Having risen, take the Child and His mother, and flee to Egypt, and be there until I may speak to you, for Herod is about to seek the Child to destroy Him.”
14 Ekiro ekyo n’asituka n’atwala Omwana ne nnyina e Misiri.
And he, having risen, took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt,
15 Ne babeera eyo okutuusa Kerode bwe yafa. Mukama kye yayogerera mu nnabbi we ne kituukirira, bwe yagamba nti: “Nayita Omwana wange okuva mu Misiri.”
and he was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
16 Kerode bwe yalaba ng’Abagezigezi banyoomye ekiragiro kye, n’asunguwala nnyo, n’atuma abaserikale e Besirekemu ne mu byalo byakyo batte abaana bonna aboobulenzi ab’emyaka ebiri n’abatannagiweza, ng’asinziira ku bbanga abagezigezi lye baali bamutegeezeza mwe baalabira emmunyeenye.
Then Herod, having seen that he was deceived by the magi, was very angry, and having sent forth, he slew all the male children in Beth-Lehem, and in all its borders, from two years and under, according to the time that he inquired exactly from the magi.
17 Awo ekigambo nnabbi Yeremiya kye yayogera ne kiryoka kituukirira ng’agamba nti,
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
18 “Eddoboozi lyawulirwa mu Laama, okukuba emiranga n’okukungubaga okunene, nga Laakeeri akaabira abaana be, nga tewakyali asobola kumuwooyawooya, kubanga bonna baweddewo.”
“A voice in Ramah was heard—weeping and much mourning—Rachel weeping [for] her children, and she would not be comforted because they are not.”
19 Kerode bwe yamala okufa malayika wa Mukama n’alabikira Yusufu mu kirooto e Misiri,
And Herod having died, behold, a messenger of the LORD appears in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 n’amugamba nti, “Golokoka ozzeeyo Omwana ne nnyina mu Isirayiri, kubanga abaali baagala okutta Omwana bafudde.”
saying, “Having risen, take the Child and His mother, and be going to the land of Israel, for they have died—those seeking the life of the Child.”
21 Yusufu n’asitukiramu n’azzaayo Omwana ne nnyina mu nsi ya Isirayiri.
And he, having risen, took the Child and His mother, and came to the land of Israel,
22 Naye bwe yatuuka mu kkubo n’atya nnyo bwe yawulira nga Alukerawo mutabani wa Kerode ye yali alidde obwakabaka. Mukama n’amulabulira nate mu kirooto aleme kugenda Buyudaaya, bw’atyo n’alaga e Ggaliraaya
and having heard that Archelaus reigns over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and having been divinely warned in a dream, he withdrew to the parts of Galilee,
23 n’atuuka mu kibuga ky’e Nazaaleesi, ne babeera omwo. Ebigambo bya bannabbi bye baayogera biryoke bituukirire nga bagamba nti: “Aliyitibwa Munnazaaleesi.”
and coming, he dwelt in a city named Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the Prophets, that “He will be called a Nazarene.”
