1 Awo abaana ba Isirayiri bonna okuva ku Ddaani okutuuka ku Beeruseba wamu n’ensi ya Gireyaadi ne bakuŋŋaana mu maaso ga Mukama e Mizupa, nga bali omuntu omu.
Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to the LORD at Mizpah.
2 Abakulembeze b’abantu bonna mu bika byonna ebya Isirayiri ne batuula mu bifo byabwe mu kuŋŋaaniro ly’abantu ba Katonda, nga bawera abaserikale abaalina ebitala, emitwalo amakumi ana.
The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.
3 Awo abaana ba Benyamini ne bawulira nti Abantu ba Isirayiri bambuse e Mizupa. Abaana ba Isirayiri ne boogera nti, “Ekintu kino eky’ekivve bwe kiti, kyabaawo kitya?”
(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The children of Israel said, “Tell us, how did this wickedness happen?”
4 Omuleevi bba w’omukazi eyattibwa n’addamu nti, “Natuuka e Gibea ekya Benyamini, ne mukazi wange, tusule eyo.
The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night.
5 Abasajja ab’e Gibea ne bangolokokerako mu kiro, ne bazingiza ennyumba gye twalimu, ne baagala okunzita. Kyokka ne bakwata mukazi wange ne bamusobyako n’afa.
The men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house by night. They intended to kill me and they raped my concubine, and she is dead.
6 Kyennava ntwala mukazi wange ne musalaasala, ne mpeereza ebitundu bye mu buli kifo eky’omugabo gwa Isirayiri, kubanga baakola ekikolwa eky’obugwenyufu era eky’ekivve.
I took my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
7 Kaakano mmwe abaana ba Isirayiri mwenna, musaleewo eky’okukola.”
Behold, you children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.”
8 Awo abantu bonna ne bagolokoka nga bali omuntu omu, ne boogera nti, “Tewali muntu mu ffe aliddayo ewuwe. Tewali aliddayo mu nnyumba ye.
All the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.
9 Naye kaakano ekintu kye tulikola Gibea okumulwanyisa, kwe kumukubira akalulu.
But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;
10 Abantu kkumi ku bantu kikumi okuva mu bika byonna ebya Isirayiri, n’abalala kikumi ku bantu olukumi, n’abalala lukumi ku bantu omutwalo ogumu bagende bafunire eggye ebyetaago. Eggye bwe lirituuka e Gibea eky’e Benyamini balyoke bababonereze ng’ekikolwa kyabwe eby’obugwenyufu bwe kiri, kye baakola mu Isirayiri.”
and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that the men of Gibeah have done in Israel.”
11 Awo abantu bonna aba Isirayiri ne bakuŋŋaana ne baba omuntu omu, ne balumba ekibuga.
So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
12 Ebika bya Isirayiri ne bituma ababaka mu kika kyonna ekya Benyamini, nga babuuza nti, “Kikolwa ki eky’ekivve ekyakolebwa wakati mu mmwe?
The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What wickedness is this that has happened among you?
13 Kale kaakano muweeyo abasajja abaana b’ebikolwa ebitali bya butuukirivu abali mu Gibea tubatte, tuggyewo ekibi mu Isirayiri.” Naye abaana ba Benyamini ne bagaana okuwuliriza eddoboozi ly’abaana ba Isirayiri.
Now therefore deliver up the men, the wicked fellows who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and put away evil from Israel.” But Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the children of Israel.
14 Awo abaana ba Benyamini ne bakuŋŋaanira mu Gibea nga bava mu bibuga byonna, bagende balwanyise abaana ba Isirayiri.
The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
15 Ku lunaku olwo, abaana ba Benyamini ne bavaayo okuva mu bibuga abasajja abalina ebitala emitwalo ebiri mu kakaaga.
The children of Benjamin were counted on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, in addition to the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were counted seven hundred chosen men.
16 Mu bantu abo bonna mwalimu abasajja abalondemu lusanvu abakozesa kkono. Buli omu ku bo yayinzanga okuteeka ejjinja mu nvumuulo ekube oluviiri, n’atasubwa.
Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed. Every one of them could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.
17 Abasajja ba Isirayiri, nga totaddeeko abava mu Benyamini, ne bakuŋŋaana abasajja abalwanyi abasitula ebitala, emitwalo amakumi ana.
The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were counted four hundred thousand men who drew sword. All these were men of war.
18 Abaana ba Isirayiri ne bagolokoka ne bayambuka e Beseri ne beebuuza ku Katonda nga bagamba nti, “Ani ku ffe alisooka okugenda okulwanyisa abaana ba Benyamini?” Mukama n’abaddamu nti, “Yuda yalisooka.”
The children of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God. They asked, “Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” The LORD said, “Judah first.”
19 Abaana ba Isirayiri ne bagolokoka mu makya ne basiisira okumpi ne Gibea.
The children of Israel rose up in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.
20 Abasajja ba Isirayiri ne bagenda okulwanyisa Benyamini, n’abasajja ba Benyamini ne basimba ennyiriri okulwanyisa abasajja ba Isirayiri e Gibea.
The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
21 Abaana ba Benyamini ne bava mu Gibea ne batta abasajja ba Isirayiri emitwalo ebiri mu enkumi bbiri mu lutalo ku lunaku olwo.
The children of Benjamin came out of Gibeah, and on that day destroyed twenty-two thousand of the Israelite men down to the ground.
22 Naye abantu bazzaamu abasajja ba Isirayiri amaanyi, ne baddayo ne basimba ennyiriri mu kifo mwe baali ku lunaku olwasooka.
The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
23 Awo abaana ba Isirayiri ne bambuka ne bakaabira Mukama okutuusa akawungeezi. Ne beebuuza ku Mukama nti, “Tuddeyo tulwanyise baganda baffe abaana ba Benyamini?” Mukama n’abaddamu nti, “Mugende mubalwanyise.”
The children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until evening; and they asked of the LORD, saying, “Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” The LORD said, “Go up against him.”
24 Ku lunaku olwokubiri Abayisirayiri ne basembera okulwanyisa Ababenyamini.
The children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
25 Ababenyamini ne bavaayo ne balumba okuva e Gibea, ne batta abaana ba Isirayiri abalala omutwalo gumu mu kanaana mu lutalo ku lunaku olwo olwokubiri; Abayisirayiri abo bonna baalina ebitala.
Benjamin went out against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men. All these drew the sword.
26 Awo abaana ba Isirayiri bonna n’abantu bonna, ne bambuka okulaga e Beseri, ne bakaabira Mukama Katonda ne batuula eyo mu maaso ge ne basiiba olunaku olwo okutuusa akawungeezi, lwe baawaayo ebiweebwayo ebyokebwa n’ebiweebwayo olw’emirembe mu maaso ga Mukama.
Then all the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until evening; then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
27 Abaana ba Isirayiri ne beebuuza ku Mukama Katonda, kubanga Essanduuko ey’Endagaano ya Katonda yaliyo mu biro ebyo,
The children of Israel asked the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
28 nga Finekaasi mutabani wa Eriyazaali, muzzukulu wa Alooni yaweereza mu maaso ga Mukama Katonda. Ne bamwebuuzaako nga bagamba nti, “Tuddeyo tulumbe baganda baffe abaana ba Benyamini oba tetuddayo?” Mukama n’abaddamu nti, “Mugende kubanga enkya nzija kubagabula mu mukono gwammwe.”
and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” The LORD said, “Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”
29 Awo Abayisirayiri ne bateegera ku njuyi zonna eza Gibea.
Israel set ambushes all around Gibeah.
30 Ku lunaku olwokusatu abaana ba Isirayiri ne bambuka okulwanyisa abaana ba Benyamini ne basimba ennyiriri nga boolekedde Gibea ng’olulala.
The children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
31 Abaana ba Benyamini ne bavaayo okubalwanyisa ne basikirizibwa okuva mu kibuga, ne batandika okukuba n’okutta ng’olulala, nga bava ku luguudo olumu okudda e Beseri, ne ku lulala oludda e Gibea mu nnimiro. Ne batta abasajja Abayisirayiri ng’amakumi asatu.
The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
32 Abaana ba Benyamini bwe baagambanga nti, “Tubawangula nga luli bwe kyali ku mulundi ogwasooka,” Abayisirayiri bo ne beeteesa nti, “Tuddeyoko emabega, tubasikirize okubaggya mu kibuga badde mu nguudo.”
The children of Benjamin said, “They are struck down before us, as at the first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let’s flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.”
33 Abasajja bonna aba Isirayiri ne bava mu nnyiriri zaabwe mu bifo byabwe, ne badda e Baalutamali. Abayisirayiri abaateega ne bafubutuka okuva mu bifo byabwe mu ttale erya Gibea.
All the men of Israel rose up out of their place and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar. Then the ambushers of Israel broke out of their place, even out of Maareh Geba.
34 Awo abasajja omutwalo gumu abaalondebwa okuva mu Isirayiri yonna, ne balumba Gibea ne waba okulwana okw’amaanyi, Ababenyamini ne batamanya nti akabi kabajjidde.
Ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel came over against Gibeah, and the battle was severe; but they didn’t know that disaster was close to them.
35 Awo Mukama Katonda n’awangula Benyamini mu maaso ga Isirayiri, era ku lunaku olwo abaana ba Isirayiri ne batta Ababenyamini bonna abaalina ebitala, abasajja emitwalo ebiri mu enkumi ttaano mu kikumi.
The LORD struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men. All these drew the sword.
36 Abaana ba Benyamini ne balaba nga bakubiddwa. Abasajja ba Isirayiri ne bakolera Ababenyamini ekkubo, nga bo Abayisirayiri beesize abateezi be baali batadde okumpi ne Gibea.
So the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck, for the men of Israel yielded to Benjamin because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.
37 Abaali bateeze ne badduka ne beesogga mu Gibea, ne basaasaana ne batta abaakirimu bonna.
The ambushers hurried, and rushed on Gibeah; then the ambushers spread out, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
38 Abasajja ba Isirayiri baali balagaanye n’abaateega nti abateezi bwe banaanyoosa omukka omungi mu kibuga,
Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.
39 abasajja ba Isirayiri abali mu ddwaniro banaakyuka. Mu kiseera ekyo Ababenyamini baali batanudde okukuba n’okutta abasajja ba Isirayiri ng’amakumi asatu, nga luli olwasooka. Ne bagamba nti, “Ddala ddala tubawangudde nga mu lutalo luli olwasooka.”
The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, “Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.”
40 Naye omukka bwe gwatandika okunyooka, ekibuga kyonna nga kigya, Ababenyamini ne bakyuka okutunula emabega, laba, ng’ekibuga kyonna kikutte omuliro.
But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and behold, the whole city went up in smoke to the sky.
41 Abasajja ba Isirayiri ne babakyukira. Abasajja ba Benyamini ne batya bwe baalaba ng’akabi kabajjidde.
The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that disaster had come on them.
42 Kyebaava badduka abasajja ba Isirayiri nga baddukira mu ddungu, kyokka olutalo ne lubayinza. Buli eyadduka okuva mu bibuga n’afiira wamu nabo.
Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness, but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the middle of it.
43 Abayisirayiri ne bazingiza Ababenyamini, ne babagoba okutuukira ddala ku buvanjuba bw’e Gibea we butandikira.
They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and trod them down at their resting place, as far as near Gibeah toward the sunrise.
44 Abasajja abalwanyi abazira Ababenyamini abaafa baali omutwalo gumu mu kanaana.
Eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor.
45 Ababenyamini bwe baddukira mu ddungu nga boolekedde olwazi lwa Limoni, Abayisirayiri ne batta enkumi ttaano ku bo. Abayisirayiri ne bongera okubagobera ddala okutuuka e Gidomu, era n’eyo ne battirayo abasajja enkumi bbiri.
They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon. They gleaned five thousand men of them in the highways, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck two thousand men of them.
46 Bwe batyo Ababenyamini bonna abaafa ku lunaku olwo, baali emitwalo ebiri mu enkumi ttaano, bonna abo nga basajja bazira.
So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword. All these were men of valor.
47 Naye abasajja lukaaga be baddukira mu ddungu okwolekera olwazi lwa Limoni, ne babeera eyo okumala emyezi ena.
But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.
48 Abasajja ba Isirayiri ne bakyuka ne baddayo eri abaana ba Benyamini ne batta buli kintu ekyali mu kibuga, ne batta ensolo, ne batta buli muntu gwe baasanga mu bibuga byonna bye baalaba, ne babikumako omuliro.
The men of Israel turned again on the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword—including the entire city, the livestock, and all that they found. Moreover they set all the cities which they found on fire.
