< Balam 10 >
1 Awo oluvannyuma lwa Abimereki, ne wabaawo Toola mutabani wa Puwa, era muzzukulu wa Dodo, omusajja wa Isakaali eyajja okulokola Isirayiri, eyabeeranga mu Samiri mu nsi ya Efulayimu ey’ensozi.
After the time of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, rose up to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.
2 N’akulembera Isirayiri okumala emyaka amakumi abiri mu esatu, n’aziikibwa mu Samiri.
Tola judged Israel twenty-three years, and when he died, he was buried in Shamir.
3 Oluvannyuma lw’oyo ne wabaawo Yayiri Omugireyaadi, eyakulembera Isirayiri okumala emyaka amakumi abiri mu ebiri.
Tola was followed by Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.
4 Yalina abaana aboobulenzi amakumi asatu abeebagalanga endogoyi amakumi asatu, era baafuganga ebibuga amakumi asatu, mu nsi ya Gireyaadi ebiyitibwa Kavosu Yayiri n’okutuusa leero.
He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys. And they had thirty towns in the land of Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth-jair.
5 Yayiri n’afa n’aziikibwa mu Kamoni.
When Jair died, he was buried in Kamon.
6 Abayisirayiri ne beeyongera okukola ebibi mu maaso ga Mukama, nga baweereza Babaali ne Asutoleesi ne bakatonda ab’e Busuuli, ne bakatonda ab’e Sidoni, ne bakatonda ab’e Mowaabu, ne bakatonda ab’abaana ba Amoni, ne bakatonda b’Abafirisuuti, ne bava ku Mukama ne batamuweereza.
And again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. They served the Baals, the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and Philistines. Thus they forsook the LORD and did not serve Him.
7 Mukama n’anyiigira Isirayiri, n’abagabula mu mukono gw’Abafirisuuti ne mu mukono gw’abaana ba Amoni,
So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and Ammonites,
8 abaanyigiriza abaana ba Isirayiri, era ne babajooga okumala emyaka kkumi na munaana. Baanyigiriza abaana ba Isirayiri bonna abaali emitala wa Yoludaani ku luuyi olw’ebuvanjuba mu nsi y’Abamoli eri mu Gireyaadi.
who that very year harassed and oppressed the Israelites, and did so for eighteen years to all the Israelites on the other side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.
9 Abaana ba Amoni nabo ne basomoka Yoludaani okulwanyisa Yuda ne Benyamini, n’ennyumba ya Efulayimu. Isirayiri ne yeeraliikirira nnyo.
The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, and Israel was in deep distress.
10 Awo abaana ba Isirayiri ne bakaabira Mukama nga bagamba nti, “Ddala ddala twasobya, ne tuva ku Katonda waffe, ne tuweereza Babaali.”
Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against You, for we have indeed forsaken our God and served the Baals.”
11 Mukama Katonda n’addamu abaana ba Isirayiri nti, “Abamisiri n’Abamoli, n’abaana ba Amoni, n’Abafirisuuti,
The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, Amorites, Ammonites, Philistines,
12 n’Abasidoni, n’Abamaleki, n’Abamawoni, bwe baabanyigiriza ne munkowoola, sabalokola okuva mu mukono gwabwe?
Sidonians, Amalekites, and Maonites oppressed you and you cried out to Me, did I not save you from their hands?
13 Naye mwanvaako ne muweereza bakatonda abalala, noolwekyo sigenda kubalokola nate.
But you have forsaken Me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you.
14 Mugende mukaabire bakatonda abo be mwasalawo okuweereza, babalokole mu nnaku yammwe.”
Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you in your time of trouble.”
15 Naye abaana ba Isirayiri ne bagamba Mukama Katonda nti, “Twayonoona. Tukole kyonna ky’onoolaba nga kye kitusaanira. Kyokka tulokole kaakano.
“We have sinned,” the Israelites said to the LORD. “Deal with us as You see fit; but please deliver us today!”
16 Ne baggya wakati mu bo bakatonda abalala, ne baweereza Mukama Katonda. Mukama n’alumwa olw’ennaku ya Isirayiri.”
So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD, and He could no longer bear the misery of Israel.
17 Awo abaana ba Amoni ne basiisira mu Gireyaadi, n’abaana ba Isirayiri nabo ne basiisira mu Mizupa.
Then the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, and the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.
18 Abakulembeze b’abantu mu Gireyaadi ne bagambagana nti, “Omusajja anaasooka okulumba abaana ba Amoni, ye anaabeera omukulembeze w’abatuuze b’omu Gireyaadi.”
And the rulers of Gilead said to one another, “Whoever will launch the attack against the Ammonites will be the head of all who live in Gilead.”
