< Yoswa 4 >
1 Awo Abayisirayiri bonna bwe baamala okusomoka omugga Yoludaani, Mukama n’agamba Yoswa nti,
When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,
2 “Yungula abasajja kkumi na babiri mu buli kika ng’olondamu omu omu.”
“Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe,
3 Obakuutire nti, “Mulonde amayinja kkumi n’abiri nga mugaggya wakati mu mugga Yoludaani awo wennyini bakabona we balinnye ebigere byabwe, mugende nago okutuukira ddala we munaasula ekiro kino.”
and command them: ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests were standing, carry them with you, and set them down in the place where you spend the night.’”
4 Yoswa n’ayita abasajja kkumi na babiri be yalonda mu bika byonna ebya Isirayiri, n’abagamba nti,
So Joshua summoned the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe,
5 “Mukulembere mu maaso g’Essanduuko ya Mukama Katonda wammwe era buli omu ku mmwe alonde ejjinja limu ng’aliggya mu mugga guno Yoludaani alyetikke ku kibegabega kye.
and said to them, “Cross over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of Israel,
6 Kano kalyoke kababeerere akabonero gye muli era mu mirembe ejijja, abaana bammwe bwe balibabuuza amayinja gano kye gategeeza,
to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
7 mulibagamba nti essanduuko y’Endagaano ya Mukama bwe yali ng’esomosebwa omugga Yoludaani, amazzi gaagwo ne geetuuma ng’ogusenge okutuusa Essanduuko bwe yamala okuyisibwawo. Kale amayinja gano, Abayisirayiri galibabeerera ekijjukizo emirembe gyonna.”
you are to tell them, ‘The waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters were cut off.’ Therefore these stones will be a memorial to the Israelites forever.”
8 Abasajja Abayisirayiri ne bakola nga Yoswa bwe yabakuutira, ne balonda amayinja kkumi n’abiri nga bagaggya mu mugga Yoludaani ng’omuwendo gw’ebika by’Abayisirayiri bwe gwali. Ne bagasitula okugatuusiza ddala we baali bagenda okusula nga Mukama bwe yagamba Yoswa.
Thus the Israelites did as Joshua had commanded them. They took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, one for each tribe of Israel, just as the LORD had told Joshua; and they carried them to the camp, where they set them down.
9 Yoswa n’asimba amayinja kkumi n’abiri mu kifo bakabona abaasitula Essanduuko ey’Endagaano we baalinnya era we gali ne kaakano.
Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant stood. And the stones are there to this day.
10 Bakabona abaasitula Essanduuko ne bayimirira wakati mu Yoludaani okutuusa nga Abayisirayiri bamaze okutuukiriza byonna Mukama bye yabalagira ng’ayita mu Musa ne Yoswa. Abantu bonna ne basomoka bunnambiro.
Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until the people had completed everything the LORD had commanded Joshua to tell them, just as Moses had directed Joshua. The people hurried across,
11 Abantu bonna nga bamaze okusomoka, bakabona ne basomosa Essanduuko ya Mukama abantu bonna nga babayeegese amaaso.
and after everyone had finished crossing, the priests with the ark of the LORD crossed in the sight of the people.
12 Awo abasajja ab’ekika kya Lewubeeni, n’ekya Gaadi, n’ekitundu ky’ekika kya Manase ne basomoka ne bayita ku Bayisirayiri bonna nga babagalidde ebyokulwanyisa nga Musa bwe yabagamba,
The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over before the Israelites, armed for battle as Moses had instructed them.
13 bonna abaali bambalidde ebyokulwanyisa baali emitwalo ng’ena mu maaso ga Mukama Katonda, olwo ne boolekera eyali olutalo mu lusenyi lw’e Yeriko.
About 40,000 troops armed for battle crossed over before the LORD into the plains of Jericho.
14 Ku lunaku olwo Mukama n’agulumiza nnyo Yoswa mu maaso g’Abayisirayiri bonna, ne bamussaamu ekitiibwa ennaku zonna ez’obulamu bwe nga bwe baakolanga Musa.
On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they revered him all the days of his life, just as they had revered Moses.
15 Awo Mukama n’agamba Yoswa nti,
Then the LORD said to Joshua,
16 “Lagira bakabona abasitula Essanduuko ey’Obujulirwa baveeyo mu mugga.”
“Command the priests who carry the ark of the Testimony to come up from the Jordan.”
17 Bw’atyo Yoswa n’alagira bakabona nti, “Muveeyo mu mugga Yoludaani.”
So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up from the Jordan.”
18 Bakabona abasitula Essanduuko ey’Endagaano ya Mukama olwalinnya ebigere byabwe ku lukalu, amazzi gonna aga Yoludaani ne gakomawo mu kkubo lyago n’okwanjaala ne ganjaala nga bulijjo.
When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
19 Bwe batyo Abayisirayiri ne basitula okuva ku Yoludaani ku lunaku olw’ekkumi mu mwezi ogw’olubereberye ne batuuka e Girugaali ne basiisira awo kumpi n’ensalo ey’ebuvanjuba eya Yeriko.
On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho.
20 Amayinja ekkumi n’abiri agaggibwa mu Yoludaani, Yoswa n’agasimba mu Girugaali.
And there at Gilgal Joshua set up the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.
21 N’agamba Abayisirayiri nti, “Abaana bammwe bwe balibabuuza amakulu g’amayinja gano,
Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future, when your children ask their fathers, ‘What is the meaning of these stones?’
22 mulibaddamu nti, ‘Abayisirayiri bwe baali banaatera okusomoka omugga Yoludaani,
you are to tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’
23 Mukama n’akaliza omugga ogwo okutuusa nga bamaze okugusomoka ne kifaananako nga Mukama Katonda bwe yakola Ennyanja Emyufu.’
For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, just as He did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over.
24 Ebyo byabaawo abantu b’omu nsi yonna bategeere ng’omukono gwa Mukama gwa maanyi era nammwe mulyoke mutye Mukama Katonda wammwe emirembe gyonna.”
He did this so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you may always fear the LORD your God.”
