< Yokaana 3 >
1 Awo waaliwo omukulembeze w’Abayudaaya erinnya lye Nikodemo, Omufalisaayo,
Now there was a Pharisee called Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews,
2 n’ajja eri Yesu ekiro okwogera naye. N’amugamba nti, “Labbi, tumanyi nti oli muyigiriza eyava eri Katonda kubanga eby’amagero by’okola tewali ayinza kubikola okuggyako nga Katonda ali wamu naye.”
who came to Jesus by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no man can do these miracles which you do, unless God be with him.
3 Yesu n’amuddamu nti, “Ddala ddala nkugamba nti, Omuntu bw’atazaalibwa mulundi gwakubiri tayinza kulaba bwakabaka bwa Katonda.”
Jesus answering, said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a man be born again, he can not discern the Reign of God.
4 Nikodemo n’amuddamu nti, “Omuntu ayinza atya okuzaalibwa bw’aba nga muntu mukulu? Ayinza okuyingira mu lubuto lwa nnyina omulundi ogwokubiri, n’azaalibwa?”
Nicodemus replied, How can a grown man be born? Can he enter his mother's womb anew, and be born?
5 Yesu kwe kumuddamu nti, “Ddala ddala nkugamba nti, Okuggyako ng’omuntu azaaliddwa amazzi n’Omwoyo tasobola kuyingira mu bwakabaka bwa Katonda.
Jesus answered, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a man be born of water and Spirit, he can not enter the kingdom of God.
6 Ekizaalibwa omubiri kiba mubiri, n’ekizaalibwa Omwoyo kiba mwoyo.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit.
7 Noolwekyo teweewuunya kubanga nkugambye nti kibagwanira okuzaalibwa omulundi ogwokubiri.
Wonder not, then, that I have said to you, You must be born again.
8 Empewo ekuntira gy’eyagala, n’owulira okuwuuma kwayo, naye tomanya gy’eva newaakubadde gyegenda; bw’atyo bw’abeera omuntu yenna azaalibwa Omwoyo.”
The Spirit breathes where he pleases, and you hear the report of him, but know not whence he comes, or whither he goes; so is every one who is born of the spirit.
9 Nikodemo n’amubuuza nti, “Ebyo biyinza bitya okubaawo?”
Nicodemus answered, How can these things be?
10 Yesu n’amuddamu nti, “Ggwe omuyigiriza wa Isirayiri, n’otomanya bintu bino?
Jesus replied, Are you the teacher of Israel, and know not these things?
11 Ddala ddala nkugamba nti twogera kye tumanyi, ne tutegeeza kye twalaba, so temukkiriza bujulirwa bwaffe.
Most assuredly, I say to you, we speak what we know, and testify what we have seen; yet you receive not our testimony.
12 Naye obanga temukkiriza bwe mbabuulira eby’ensi, kale munaasobola mutya okukkiriza bwe nnaababuulira eby’omu ggulu?
If you understood not, when I told you earthly things, how will you understand when I tell you heavenly things?
13 Kubanga tewali muntu eyali alinnye mu ggulu, okuggyako eyava mu ggulu, ye Mwana w’Omuntu.
For none has ascended into heaven, but he who descended from heaven; the Son of Man, whose abode is heaven.
14 Era nga Musa bwe yawanika omusota mu ddungu, bwe kityo n’Omwana w’Omuntu kimugwanira okuwanikibwa,
As Moses placed on high the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be placed on high;
15 buli amukkiriza alyoke afune obulamu obutaggwaawo. (aiōnios )
that whosoever believes on him may not perish, but obtain eternal life: (aiōnios )
16 “Kubanga Katonda bwe yayagala ensi, bw’atyo n’awaayo Omwana we omu yekka, buli muntu yenna amukkiriza aleme kuzikirira, wabula afune obulamu obutaggwaawo. (aiōnios )
for God has so loved the world, as to give his own begotten Son, that whosoever believes on him, may not perish, but obtain eternal life. (aiōnios )
17 Kubanga Katonda teyatuma Mwana we mu nsi kugisalira musango, wabula ensi erokolebwe okuyita mu ye.
For God has sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world may be saved by him.
18 Amukkiriza tasalibwa musango, naye atakkiriza gumaze okumusinga kubanga takkiririza mu linnya ly’Omwana oyo omu yekka owa Katonda.
He who believes on him shall not be condemned; he who believes not, is already condemned, because he has not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 Era guno gwe musango nti: Omusana guzze mu nsi, kyokka abantu ne baagala ekizikiza okusinga omusana, kubanga ebikolwa byabwe bibi.
Now this is the ground of condemnation; that light has come into the world, and men have preferred the darkness to the light, because their deeds were evil.
20 Buli akola ebibi akyawa Omusana era tajja eri musana, ebikolwa bye bireme okumanyibwa.
For whosoever does evil, hates the light, and shuns it, lest his deeds should be detected.
21 Naye buli ajja eri omusana akola eby’amazima, ebikolwa bye bimanyibwe nga byakolerwa mu Katonda.”
But he who obeys the truth, comes to the light, that it may be manifest that his actions are agreeable to God.
22 Oluvannyuma lw’ebyo Yesu n’abayigirizwa be ne bajja mu nsi y’e Buyudaaya, n’abeera eyo nabo, era n’abatiza.
After this, Jesus went, with his disciples, into the territory of Judea, where he remained with them, and immersed.
23 Mu kiseera ekyo ne Yokaana yali abatiriza mu Enoni okumpi ne Salimu, kubanga awo waaliwo amazzi mangi, era ng’abantu bangi bajja okubatizibwa,
John also was immersing in Enon, near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came thither, and were immersed.
24 olwo nga tannateekebwa mu kkomera.
For John was not yet cast into prison.
25 Ne wabaawo empaka wakati w’abayigirizwa ba Yokaana n’Omuyudaaya ku nsonga ey’okutukuzibwa.
Now John's disciples had a dispute with a Jew, about purification.
26 Ne bajja eri Yokaana ne bamugamba nti, “Labbi, omuntu oli gwe wali naye emitala w’omugga Yoludaani, gwe wayogerako, laba abatiza era abantu bonna bagenda gy’ali.”
Then they went to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with you near the Jordan, of whom you gave so great a character; he, too, immerses, and the people flock to him.
27 Yokaana n’abaddamu nti, “Omuntu tayinza kuba na kintu okuggyako nga kimuweereddwa okuva mu ggulu.
John answered, A man can have no power but what he derives from heaven.
28 Mmwe mwennyini mukimanyi bulungi nga bwe nabagamba nti, ‘Si nze Kristo.’ Nze natumibwa okumukulembera.
You yourselves are witness for me, that I said, I am not the Messiah; but am sent before him.
29 Nannyini mugole ye awasizza, naye mukwano nnannyini mugole ayimirira ng’amuwulidde, era asanyukira nnyo eddoboozi ly’oyo awasizza. Noolwekyo essanyu lyange lituukiridde.
The bridegroom is he who has the bride; but the friend of the bridegroom, who assists him, rejoices to hear the bridegroom's voice: this, my joy, therefore, is complete.
30 Kimugwanira ye okugulumizibwa naye nze okutoowazibwa.
He must increase, while I decrease.
31 “Oyo ava mu ggulu, yafuga byonna. Ow’omu nsi, aba wa mu nsi, era ayogera bya mu nsi.
He who comes from above, is above all. He who is from the earth is earthly, and speaks as being from the earth. He who comes from heaven, is above all.
32 Ye ategeeza ebyo bye yalaba ne bye yawulira, so tewali akkiriza by’ategeeza.
What he testifies, is what he has seen and heard; yet his testimony is not received.
33 Naye oyo akkiriza by’ategeeza akakasa nti Katonda wa mazima.
He who receives his testimony, vouches the veracity of God.
34 Kubanga oyo eyatumwa Katonda ategeeza ebigambo bya Katonda, n’Omwoyo gw’agaba tagerebwa.
for he whom God has commissioned, relates God's own words; for to him God gives not the Spirit by measure.
35 Kitaffe ayagala Omwana we era yamukwasa byonna mu mukono gwe.
The Father loves the Son, and has subjected all things to him.
36 Oyo akkiriza Omwana alina obulamu obutaggwaawo, naye oyo atakkiriza Mwana, taliraba bulamu era Katonda amusunguwalira.” (aiōnios )
He who believes on the Son, has life eternal; he who rejects the Son, shall not see life: but the vengeance of God awaits him. (aiōnios )
