< Yobu 1 >

1 Waaliwo omusajja mu nsi ya Uzzi erinnya lye Yobu; yali muntu ataliiko kya kunenyezebwa, nga wa mazima, eyeewalanga ekibi, era ng’atya Katonda.
Once there was a man called Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was a man of integrity who did what was right. He respected God and avoided evil.
2 Yalina abaana aboobulenzi musanvu n’aboobuwala basatu.
He had seven sons and three daughters.
3 Mu byobugagga ebingi ennyo bye yalina; mwe mwali endiga kasanvu, eŋŋamira enkumi ssatu, emigogo gy’ente ezirima ebikumi bitaano, endogoyi enkazi ebikumi bitaano, n’abaddu bangi nnyo nnyini; yali mwatiikirivu okusinga abantu abalala bonna mu nsi z’ebuvanjuba.
He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred teams of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, as well as many servants. He was more wealthy than anyone else in the East.
4 Batabani be baakwatanga embaga z’amazaalibwa gaabwe buli omu mu mpalo ng’ennaku zaabwe bwe zaali ziddiriŋŋananga mu maka ga buli omu; era baayitanga bannyinaabwe bonsatule okubajagulizaangako.
Job's sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes on their specific day, also inviting their sisters to come and eat and drink with them.
5 Ennaku z’embaga bwe zaggwangako, Yobu yabatumyanga n’abatukuza; yakeeranga mu makya n’abaweerangayo ebiweebwayo ebyokebwa ng’omuwendo gwabwe bwe gwali ng’alowooza nti, “Oboolyawo ng’abaana bange bayonoonye ne bavvoola Katonda mu mitima gyabwe.” Kino yakikolanga bulijjo.
When the days of feasting were over, Job would send for them and purify them by getting up early in the morning to offer a burnt offering for each of them. He was concerned, thinking to himself, “Maybe my children have sinned in some way and have unintentionally offended God.” This is what Job always did.
6 Olunaku lumu, bamalayika ne bajja mu maaso ga Mukama, ne Setaani naye n’ajjiramu.
One day the angels came to present themselves to the Lord, and Satan came with them.
7 Mukama n’abuuza Setaani nti, “Ova wa?” Setaani n’addamu Mukama nti, “Nva kutalaaga nsi yonna okulaba ebintu nga bwe biri.”
The Lord asked Satan, “What have you been doing?” “Traveling around on earth, going here and there,” Satan replied.
8 Mukama Katonda n’abuuza Setaani nti, “Weetegerezza omuddu wange Yobu, atalina amufaanana, anzisaamu ekitiibwa, ataliiko kyakunenyezebwa era eyeewala buli ngeri yonna eyinza okukozesa omuntu ebibi?”
“Have you paid attention to Job, my servant?” asked the Lord. “There's no one like him on earth, a man of integrity who does what is right, who respects God and avoids evil.”
9 Setaani n’addamu Mukama Katonda nti, “Ekitiibwa akussaamu kya bwereere?
“Is it for nothing that Job respects God?” Satan answered. “You've placed a protective fence around him and his family—in fact around everything he has.
10 Tomukozeeko lukomera ye n’ennyumba ye, n’eby’obugagga by’alina? Buli ky’akola okiwadde omukisa; n’eby’obugagga bye byeyongedde nnyo obungi!
You have blessed everything he does. His flocks and herds have increased so much they fill the whole land!
11 Kale geza okwate ku by’alina obimuggyeko olabe nga taakwegaane nga n’ensi yonna eraba!”
But if you reach out and take everything he has, he will definitely curse you to your face.”
12 Mukama Katonda n’agamba Setaani nti, “Byonna by’alina biri mu mikono gyo, naye togeza n’okwata ku bulamu bwe.” Oluvannyuma lw’ebyo Setaani n’ava mu maaso ga Mukama.
The Lord told Satan, “Very well, you have the power to do whatever you want to everything he has, but don't hurt him physically.” Then Satan left the Lord's presence.
13 Awo olunaku lumu, batabani ba Yobu ne bawala be bwe baali banywa omwenge era nga baliira ebyassava mu maka ga mukulu waabwe,
The day came when while Job's sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,
14 omubaka n’ajja eri Yobu n’amugamba nti, “Ente zibadde zirima nga n’endogoyi ziri kumpi nazo,
a messenger came to Job and told him, “As the oxen were plowing and female donkeys were grazing nearby,
15 Abaseba ne bazigwako ne bazitwala era n’abaddu bonna ne babatta nze nsigaddewo nzekka okujja okukutegeeza bino.”
the Sabeans attacked and took them, killing the herdsmen. Only I escaped to bring you this news.”
16 Oyo aba akyayogera ebyo, laba, omubaka omulala n’atuuka naye n’amugamba nti, “Omuliro gubuubuuse nga guva mu ggulu ne gusaanyaawo endiga zonna n’abasumba baazo, nze nsigaddewo nzekka okukutegeeza bino.”
While he was still speaking another messenger arrived and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and set the sheep and shepherds on fire and burned them up. Only I escaped to bring you this news.”
17 N’oyo aba akyayogera, n’omubaka omulala n’atuuka, n’agamba nti, “Abakaludaaya bazze nga beetegese mu bibinja bisatu, ne bagwa ku ŋŋamira ne bazitwala era ne batta n’abaddu ababadde bazirabirira, era nze nzekka nze nsigaddewo okujja okukumanyisa bino.”
While he was still speaking another messenger arrived and said, “Three armed companies of Chaldeans attacked the camels and took them, killing the herdsmen. Only I escaped to bring you this news.”
18 Aba akyayogera, laba, n’omulala n’ajja n’amugamba nti, “Batabani bo ne bawala bo babadde baliira era nga banywera omwenge mu nnyumba ya mukulu waabwe,
While he was still speaking another messenger arrived and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their eldest brother
19 laba, omuyaga ogw’amaanyi guvudde mu ddungu ne gugoyaagoya ennyumba yonna mwe babadde era bonna bafiiriddemu nze mponyeewo nzekka okujja okukubikira.”
when all of a sudden a tremendous wind came in from the desert. It hit the house on all four sides so that it collapsed on them and they died. Only I escaped to bring you this news.”
20 Yobu olwawulira bino byonna, n’agolokoka n’ayuza ebyambalo bye n’amwa omutwe gwe, n’avuunama n’asinza:
Then Job stood up and tore his robe. Then cut off his hair and fell to the ground in worship.
21 n’agamba nti, “Nazaalibwa sirina kantu era bwe ntyo bwe ndiddayo. Mukama ye yawa era Mukama y’aggyeewo, erinnya lya Mukama Katonda lyebazibwe.”
“I was naked when I came out of my mother's womb, and I shall be naked when I leave,” he said. “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. May the Lord's name be honored.”
22 Mu bino byonna Yobu teyayonoona kubanga teyeemulugunyiza Katonda.
In all of this Job did not sin, nor blame God.
