< Yeremiya 36 >

1 Mu mwaka ogwokuna ogw’obufuzi bwa Yekoyakimu mutabani wa Yosiya kabaka wa Yuda ekigambo kya Mukama ne kijjira Yeremiya nga kigamba nti,
When Jehoiakim had been the king of Judah for almost four years, Yahweh gave this message to me:
2 “Twala omuzingo gw’empapula oguwandiikeko ebigambo byonna bye njogedde naawe ebikwata ku Isirayiri, ne Yuda n’amawanga gonna okuva mu biseera bye natandika okwogera naawe okuva mu bufuzi bwa Yosiya okutuusa kaakano.
“Get a scroll, and write on it the messages that I have given to you regarding Israel, Judah, and the other nations. Write all of the messages, starting from the time that I gave you the first message, when Josiah was the king, up until now.
3 Oboolyawo abantu ba Yuda bwe banaawulira ku bikangabwa bye ntegeka okubateekako, buli omu ku bo anaakyuka okuleka amakubo ge amabi, ndyoke mbasonyiwe ebibi byabwe n’obutali butuukirivu bwabwe.”
When the people of Judah hear [again] about all the disasters that I plan to cause them to experience, perhaps each one of them will repent. If they do that, I will be able to forgive them for the wrong/evil things that they have done.”
4 Awo Yeremiya n’ayita Baluki mutabani wa Neriya, era nga Yeremiya ayogera ebigambo byonna Mukama bye yali ayogedde naye, Baluki n’abiwandiika ku muzingo.
[So] I summoned Baruch, the son of Neraiah. Then, as I dictated to him all the messages that Yahweh had spoken to me, he wrote them on a scroll.
5 Awo Yeremiya n’agamba Baluki nti, “Nagaanibwa okugenda mu nnyumba ya Mukama.
Then I said to him, “I am not allowed to [leave here and] go to the temple.
6 Kale laga mu nnyumba ya Mukama ku lunaku olw’okusiiba osomere abantu ebigambo bya Mukama ebiri ku muzingo by’owandiise nga njogera. Bisomere abantu ba Yuda bonna abava mu bibuga byabwe.
So, you go [to the temple] on the [next] day when the people are (fasting/abstaining from food), and read to them the messages from Yahweh that you wrote while I dictated them to you. Read them [aloud] to all the people [who are there, including] the people of Judah who come [there] from their towns.
7 Oboolyawo banaaleeta okwegayirira kwabwe eri Mukama, era buli omu anaava mu makubo ge amabi, kubanga obusungu n’ekiruyi Mukama by’agambye okutuusa ku bantu bano binene nnyo.”
Perhaps they will turn from their evil behavior and request Yahweh [to act mercifully toward them]. [They must do that, ] because Yahweh is very angry with them and has threatened to punish them severely.”
8 Baluki mutabani wa Neriya n’akola byonna nnabbi Yeremiya bye yamugamba okukola; n’asomera, ebigambo bya Mukama okuva mu muzingo, mu yeekaalu ya Mukama.
Baruch did what I told him to do. He [went to the temple and] read [to the people] all those messages from Yahweh.
9 Mu mwezi ogwomwenda ogw’omwaka ogwokutaano ogw’obufuzi bwa Yekoyakimu mutabani wa Yosiya kabaka wa Yuda, ekiseera eky’okusiibira mu maaso ga Mukama kyalangirirwa eri abantu bonna mu Yerusaalemi era n’abo abaali bavudde mu bibuga bya Yuda.
He did it in December on a day when their leaders had proclaimed that all the people in Jerusalem and the people who had come there from [other] towns in Judah should fast to [please/honor] Yahweh. [It was when] Jehoiakim had been king for almost five years.
10 Awo ng’abantu bonna bawulira, Baluki n’asoma ebigambo bya Yeremiya okuva mu muzingo, mu nnyumba ya Mukama ng’ali mu kisenge kya Gemaliya mutabani wa Safani omuwandiisi, ekyali mu luggya olw’ekyengulu, mu mulyango omuggya ogw’ennyumba ya Mukama ng’abantu bonna bawulira.
Baruch read to all the people the messages [that he had written] on the scroll. [He read them while he was] in the temple, in the room where Gemariah stayed. He was the son of Shaphan, [who had previously been the king’s] secretary. That room was close to the upper courtyard [of the temple], near the entrance to the temple that is [called] the New Gate.
11 Mikaaya mutabani wa Gemaliya mutabani wa Safani bwe yawulira ebigambo bya Mukama byonna ebyali mu muzingo,
When Micaiah, who was the son of Gemariah and grandson of Shaphan, heard those messages from Yahweh,
12 n’agenda eri ennyumba y’omuwandiisi mu lubiri lwa kabaka, abakungu bonna gye baali batudde: Erisaama omuwandiisi, ne Deraya mutabani wa Semaaya, ne Erunasani mutabani wa Akubooli, ne Gemaliya mutabani wa Safani, ne Zeddekiya mutabani wa Kananiya, n’abakungu bonna abalala.
he went down to the secretary’s room in the palace, where all the king’s officials were meeting. Elishama the [king’s] secretary [was there]. Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Acbor, Gemariah, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the [other] officials [of the king were also there].
13 Mikaaya ng’ababuulidde byonna bye yali awulidde Baluki asomera abantu okuva ku muzingo,
When Micaiah told them about the messages that Baruch had been reading to the people,
14 abakungu bonna ne batuma Yekudi mutabani wa Nesaniya, mutabani wa Seremiya mutabani wa Kuusi eri Baluki amugambe nti, “Leeta omuzingo gw’osomedde abantu, naawe ojje.” Awo Baluki mutabani wa Neriya n’atwalira omuzingo mu mikono gye n’agubaleetera.
the officials sent Jehudi, who was the son of Nethaniah and grandson of Shelemiah and great-grandson of Cushi, to tell Baruch to come [and read the messages to them, also]. So Baruch took the scroll and went to them.
15 Ne bamugamba nti, “Tuula wansi, ogutusomere.” Awo Baluki n’agubasomera.
They said to him, “Please sit down and read it [to us].” So Baruch did what they requested.
16 Bwe baawulira ebigambo ebyo byonna, buli omu n’atunula ku munne ng’atidde ne bagamba Baluki nti, “Tuteekwa okubuulira kabaka ebigambo bino byonna.”
After they had heard all the messages, they were afraid. They looked at each other and [then] they said, “We must tell these messages to the king!”
17 Awo ne babuuza Baluki nti, “Tubuulire, wazze otya okuwandiika bino byonna? Yeremiya ye yabikugambye?”
Then they asked Baruch, “How did you get this scroll? Did Jeremiah dictate to you all the messages on this scroll?”
18 Baluki n’abaddamu nti, “Weewaawo ye yayogedde ebigambo bino byonna, nze ne mbiwandiika ne bwino ku muzingo.”
Baruch replied, “[Yes], Jeremiah dictated them to me, and I wrote them with ink on this scroll.”
19 Awo abakungu bonna ne bagamba Baluki nti, “Ggwe ne Yeremiya mugende mwekweke. Temukkiriza muntu yenna kumanya gye muli.”
Then the officials told Baruch, “You and Jeremiah must both hide. Do not tell anyone where you are!”
20 Bwe baamala okutereka omuzingo mu kisenge kya Erisaama omuwandiisi, ne bagenda eri kabaka mu luggya ne bamutegeeza byonna.
They put the scroll in the room of Elishama, the king’s secretary. Then they went to the king, who was in the courtyard, and reported to him everything [that Baruch had read to them].
21 Kabaka n’atuma Yekudi okuleeta omuzingo, Yekudi n’aguleeta okuva mu kisenge kya Erisaama omuwandiisi agusomere kabaka n’abakungu bonna abaali bamuyimiridde ku lusegere.
Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll. Jehudi brought it from Elishama’s room and read it to the king, while all the [king’s] officials were standing there.
22 Gwali mwezi gwa mwenda ne kabaka yali atudde mu nnyumba etuulwamu mu budde obw’obutiti, ng’omuliro gwakira mu kibya kyagwo mu maaso ge.
It was in the cold season, and the king was in a part of the palace where he stayed when it was cold. He was sitting in front of a fire [to keep/be warm].
23 Buli Yekudi lwe yasomangako empapula ssatu oba nnya ez’omuzingo, kabaka ng’azisala n’akambe k’omuwandiisi n’azisuula mu muliro okutuusa omuzingo gwonna lwe gwajjiira mu muliro.
Each time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king cut off that section of the scroll with a knife and threw it into the fire. He did that, section by section, until the entire scroll was burned up.
24 Kabaka n’abantu bonna abaawulira ebigambo bino tebaatya, wadde okuyuza engoye zaabwe.
Neither the king nor his officials showed that they were afraid [that God would punish them]. They did not tear their clothes [to show that they were sorry for what they had done].
25 Newaakubadde nga Erunasani, ne Deraaya ne Gemaliya beegayirira kabaka obutayokya muzingo, teyabawuliriza.
Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah pleaded with the king not to burn the scroll, but he did not pay any attention.
26 Naye kabaka yalagira Yerameeri mutabani wa kabaka ne Seraya mutabani wa Azulyeri ne Seremiya mutabani wa Abudeeri okukwata Baluki omuwandiisi ne nnabbi Yeremiya, wabula Mukama ng’abakwese.
Then the king commanded his son Jerahmeel, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to arrest Baruch and me. But [they were unable to do that because] Yahweh had hidden us.
27 Kabaka ng’amaze okwokya omuzingo ogwalimu ebigambo Baluki bye yali awandiise nga Yeremiya abyogera, ekigambo kya Mukama ne kijjira Yeremiya nti,
After the king had burned the scroll on which were written the messages that I had dictated to Baruch, Yahweh said this to me:
28 “Twala omuzingo omulala oguwandiikeko ebigambo byonna ebyali ku muzingo ogwasooka, Yekoyakimu kabaka wa Yuda gwe yayokya.
“Get another scroll, and [tell Baruch to] write everything again, the same messages that he had written on the scroll that the king burned.
29 Gamba ne Yekoyakimu kabaka wa Yuda nti, ‘Bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama nti, Wayokya omuzingo ogwo n’ogamba nti, “Lwaki wakiwandiikamu nti kabaka w’e Babulooni alijja azikiririze ddala ensi eno agimalemu abantu n’ensolo?”
[Then go to] the king and say to him, ‘Yahweh says this: “You burned the scroll [because you did not like] what was written on it, that the king of Babylon would surely [RHQ] come [with his army] and destroy this land and get rid of all the people and the animals.
30 Noolwekyo bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama eri Yekoyakimu kabaka wa Yuda nti, Tajja kubeera na muntu n’omu kutuula ku ntebe ya Dawudi, n’omulambo gwe gulisuulibwa ebweru gwanikibwe mu musana emisana ne mu butiti ekiro.
Now this is what [I], Yahweh, say about [you], Jehoiakim: 'None of your descendants will rule this kingdom [MTY]. Your corpse will be thrown out [on the ground and not be buried]; it will be under the hot [sun] during the days and [struck by] frost during the nights.
31 Ndimubonereza n’abaana be, ne bakalabaalaba be olw’okwonoona kwabwe. Ndimuleetako ne bonna ababeera mu Yerusaalemi ne bonna ababeera mu Yuda buli kibonoobono kye naboogerako, kubanga tebawulirizza.’”
I will punish you and your family and your officials for their sins. And I will cause the people of Jerusalem and the people of the [other] towns in Judah to experience all the disasters that I promised, because you all would not pay attention [to what I said]!'” '”
32 Olwo Yeremiya n’atwala omuzingo omulala n’aguwa omuwandiisi Baluki mutabani wa Neriya; nga Yeremiya ayogera, Baluki yawandiikamu ebigambo byonna ebyali mu muzingo guli Yekoyakimu kabaka wa Yuda gwe yayokya mu muliro. N’ebigambo bingi ebifaanana bwe bityo byayongerwamu.
So I took another scroll, and again I dictated the messages to Baruch. He wrote everything that had been written on the [other] scroll, the one that King Jehoiakim had burned in the fire. [But this time, I] added more messages.
