< Isaaya 36 >

1 Awo olwatuuka, mu mwaka ogw’ekkumi n’ena ogw’obufuzi bwa kabaka Keezeekiya, Sennakeribu kabaka w’e Bwasuli n’ayambuka okulumba ebibuga byonna ebya Yuda ebyali bizimbiddwako bbugwe n’abiwamba.
In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
2 Awo kabaka w’e Bwasuli n’asindika Labusake omuduumizi we ow’oku ntikko okuva e Lakisi n’eggye eddene ayolekere Yerusaalemi ewa kabaka Keezeekiya. Omuduumizi ono n’asimba amakanda ku mabbali g’omukutu gw’amazzi omunene ku luguudo olugenda ku Nnimiro y’Omwozi w’Engoye.
And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem, with a great army, against King Hezekiah, and he halted at the aqueduct of the upper pool, in the highway to the fuller's field.
3 Awo Eriyakimu mutabani wa Kirukiya, eyali akulira olubiri, ne Sebuna omuwandiisi, ne Yoswa mutabani wa Asafu eyavunaanyizibwanga ebiwandiiko ne bafuluma okumusisinkana.
Then came forth to him Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the palace, and Shebna the scribe, and Josh, the son of Asaph, the annalist.
4 Labusake n’abagamba nti, “Mugambe Keezeekiya nti, ‘Bw’ati bw’ayogera kabaka omukulu, kabaka w’e Bwasuli nti, Kiki ddala kye weesiga?
And Rabshakeh said to them, Say ye to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria: What a confidence is this which thou cherishest!
5 Olowooza ebigambo obugambo birina amaanyi n’amagezi okuwangula olutalo. Ani gwe weesiga olyoke onjemere?
Thou sayest, (but it is vain talk, ) “I have counsel and strength for war.” In whom, then, dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
6 Laba weesiga Misiri, ogwo omuggo obuggo, olumuli olubetente, oluyinza okufumita engalo z’omuntu ng’alwesigamyeko: bw’atyo Falaawo, ye kabaka w’e Misiri bw’ayisa bonna abamwesiga.’
Behold, thou trustest in that broken reed-staff, Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will pierce his hand, and go through it. Such is Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all that trust in him.
7 Naye bw’onoŋŋamba nti, ‘Twesiga Mukama Katonda waffe,’ si ye yali nannyini byoto n’ebifo ebigulumivu Keezeekiya bye yaggyawo n’agamba Yuda ne Yerusaalemi nti, ‘Mu maaso g’ekyoto kino we munaasinzizanga’?
But if ye say to me, “We trust in Jehovah, our God,”—is it not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem to worship before this altar?
8 “‘Kale nno Mukama wange Kabaka w’e Bwasuli agamba nti, Ajja kukuwa embalaasi enkumi bbiri bw’obanga ddala olina abanaazeebagala.
Engage, now, with my master, the king of Assyria! and I will give thee two thousand horses, when thou art able to provide for thyself riders for them.
9 Mu mbeera eyo gy’olimu oyinza otya okuwangula wadde omuduumizi asembayo obunafu mu gye lyaffe ne bwe weesiga ebigaali n’embalaasi za Misiri?
How, then, canst thou resist a single captain, one of the least of the servants of my master? Yet thou trustest in Egypt, on account of her chariots and her horsemen.
10 Ate ekirala olowooza nzize okulumba ensi eno n’okugizikiriza nga Mukama si y’andagidde? Mukama yaŋŋamba nnumbe ensi eno ngizikirize.’”
And am I now come up without Jehovah against this land to destroy it? Jehovah hath said to me, “Go up against this land and destroy it!”
11 Awo Eriyakimu ne Sebuna ne Yoswa ne bagamba Labusake nti, “Tukwegayiridde yogera n’abaddu bo mu Lusuuli kubanga tulumanyi, toyogera naffe mu Luyudaaya ng’abantu abali ku bbugwe bawulira.”
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Josh to Rabshakeh: Speak, we beseech thee, to thy servants in the Aramaic language, for we understand it; and speak not to us in the Jewish language, in the hearing of the people that are upon the wall.
12 Naye Labusake n’ayogera nti, “Ebyo ebigambo Mukama wange yantumye kubyogera eri mukama wo n’eri ggwe mwekka, so si n’eri abasajja abatudde ku bbugwe abali nga mmwe abagenda okulya obubi bwabwe n’okunywa omusulo gwabwe?”
But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to speak these words to thy master and to thee only, and not to the people who sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?
13 Awo Labusake n’ayimirira n’ayogera mu ddoboozi ery’omwanguka mu lulimi olw’Abayudaaya nti, “Muwulire ebigambo bya kabaka omukulu, kabaka w’e Bwasuli.
Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jewish language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
14 Kabaka agambye bw’ati nti, Temukkiriza Keezeekiya kubalimbalimba tayinza kubawonya.
Thus saith the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you.
15 Temukkiriza Keezeekiya kubasigula ng’abagamba nti, ‘Mukama ddala ajja kutununula, ekibuga kino tekijja kugwa mu mukono gwa Bwasuli.’
And let not Hezekiah persuade you to trust in Jehovah, saying, “Jehovah will certainly deliver us. This city shall not be delivered into the hands of the king of Assyria.”
16 “Temuwuliriza Keezeekiya kubanga bw’ati bw’ayogera kabaka w’e Bwasuli nti, ‘Mutabagane nange mufulume mujje gye ndi, olwo buli muntu ku mmwe lw’alirya ku muzabbibu gwe na buli muntu ku mutiini gwe, era buli omu alinywa ku mazzi ag’omu kidiba kye,
Hearken not to Hezekiah; for thus saith the king of Assyria: Make peace with me, and come out to me; and ye shall every one eat of his own vine, and every one of his own fig-tree, and ye shall every one drink the waters of his own cistern,
17 okutuusa lwe ndijja ne mbatwalira ddala mu nsi efaanana ensi yammwe, ensi ey’eŋŋaano ne wayini, ensi ey’emigaati n’ennimiro ez’emizabbibu.’
until I come, and take you to a land like your own land; a land of corn, and of new wine, a land of bread and of vineyards.
18 “Mwekuume Keezeekiya aleme okubasendasenda ng’ayogera nti, ‘Mukama alibalokola.’ Waliwo katonda yenna ow’amawanga eyali awonyezza ensi ye mu mukono gwa kabaka w’e Bwasuli?
Be not persuaded by Hezekiah, when he saith, “Jehovah will deliver us.” Have the gods of the nations delivered every one his own land from the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arphad?
19 Bali ludda wa bakatonda ab’e Kamasi ne Alupadi? Bali ludda wa bakatonda ab’e Sefarayimu? Baali bawonyezza Samaliya mu mukono gwange?
Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? And did the gods deliver Samaria from my hand?
20 Baani ku bakatonda bonna ab’ensi ezo abaali bawonyezza ensi zaabwe mu mukono gwange? Kale Mukama asobola atya okuwonya Yerusaalemi mu mukono gwange?”
Who is there among all the gods of these lands, that hath delivered his land out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
21 Kyokka bo baasirika busirisi tebaddamu, kubanga kabaka yali alagidde nti, “Temumuddamu.”
But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's command was, “Answer him not.”
22 Awo Eriyakimu mutabani wa Kirukiya eyali akulira olubiri ne Sebuna Omuwandiisi ne Yoswa mutabani wa Asafu Omukuumi w’ebiwandiiko, ne baddayo eri Keezeekiya nga bayuzizza engoye zaabwe, ne bamubuulira ebigambo bya Labusake.
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the palace, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the annalist, to Hezekiah, with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
