1 Ekigambo kya Mukama Katonda ne kinzijira nate n’aŋŋamba nti,
A message from the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “Omwana w’omuntu yogera eri abantu obategeeze nti, ‘Bwe ndirumba ensi n’ekitala, abantu ab’omu nsi ne baddira omu ku bo ne bamufuula omukuumi waabwe,
“Son of man, tell your people: If I brought an army to attack a country, the people there would choose one of them to be their watchman.
3 n’alaba ekitala nga kijja eri ensi, n’afuuwa ekkondeere ng’alabula abantu,
When he saw the army advancing to attack the country, he would blow the trumpet to warn everyone.
4 awo omuntu yenna bw’aliwulira ekkondeere n’atalabuka ekitala bwe kirijja ne kigyawo obulamu bwe, omusaayi gwe guliba ku mutwe gwe ye.
So if you hear the trumpet but don't pay attention to the warning, and you're killed in the attack, you will be responsible for your own death.
5 Kubanga yawulira ekkondeere n’atalabuka, omusaayi gwe kyeguliva gubeera ku mutwe gwe ye. Singa yakola nga bwe yalabulwa yandiwonyezza obulamu bwe.
Since you heard the trumpet but didn't pay attention to the warning, then you will be responsible for your own death. If you had paid attention the warning, you could have saved your life.
6 Naye omukuumi bw’alaba ekitala nga kijja n’atafuuwa kkondeere okulabula abantu, ekitala ne kijja ne kigyawo obulamu bw’omu ku bo, omuntu oyo aliggyibwawo olw’obutali butuukirivu bwe, naye omusaayi gwe ndiguvunaana omukuumi.’
But if the watchman saw the attack coming and didn't blow the trumpet to warn everyone, and someone is killed, then that person will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their death.
7 “Omwana w’omuntu, nkufudde omukuumi ow’ennyumba ya Isirayiri, Noolwekyo wulira kye nkugamba, obalabule.
Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the people of Israel. Listen to what I tell you and warn them for me.
8 Bwe ŋŋambanga omukozi w’ebibi nti, ‘Ggwe omwonoonyi, mazima olifa,’ n’otoyogera okumulabula okuleka ekkubo lye, omwonoonyi oyo alifa olw’ebibi bye, naye omusaayi gwe ndiguvunaana gwe.
If I tell the wicked ‘You're wicked; you're going to die’; but you don't warn them to change what they're doing, then they'll die in their sins and I will hold your responsible for their deaths.
9 Naye bw’olabulanga omwonoonyi okuleka ekkubo lye, n’ajeema, alifiira mu bibi bye, naye ggwe oliba olokodde obulamu bwo.
But if you warn the wicked to change what they're doing, and they don't, they will die in their sins, but you will save your own life.
10 “Omwana w’omuntu, tegeeza ennyumba ya Isirayiri nti, Mwogera nti, ‘Okusobya kwaffe n’okwonoona kwaffe kutuzitoowerera, era tuyongobera mu kwo, tuyinza tutya okuwona?’
Son of man, tell the people of Israel that this is what they've been saying, ‘We recognize our sins and wrongs, and they weigh on us, wearing us out. How can we go on living?’
11 Bategeeze nti, ‘Nga bwe ndi omulamu, bw’ayogera Mukama Katonda, sisanyukira kufa kw’abakozi ba bibi, wabula bo okukyuka ne bava mu kkubo lyabwe ebbi ne baba balamu. Mukyuke, mukyuke okuva mu makubo gammwe amabi. Lwaki mufa, mmwe ennyumba ya Isirayiri?’
Tell them: As I live, declares the Lord God, it brings me no pleasure when wicked people die. I wish they would stop sinning and live! Stop! Stop sinning! Why should you die, people of Israel?
12 “Kale nno, omwana w’omuntu kyonoova otegeeza abantu bo nti, ‘Obutuukirivu obw’omutuukirivu tebulimuwonyesa bw’alijeema, era n’obutali butuukirivu bw’atalina butuukirivu tebulimuzikiriza bw’alikyuka n’abuleka. Omuntu omutuukirivu, bw’aliyonoona, taliba mulamu olw’obutuukirivu bwe obw’emabega.’
So, son of man, tell your people: All the good things a good person has done won't save them when they sin; while the bad things a bad person has done won't be a problem for them if they stop sinning. But good people won't live if they start sinning.
13 Bwe ndigamba omutuukirivu nga mazima ddala aliba mulamu, naye ne yeesiga obutuukirivu bwe n’ayonoona, tewaliba ne kimu ku bikolwa eby’obutuukirivu bye yakola ebirijjukirwa, naye mu butali butuukirivu bwe bw’akoze omwo mw’alifiira.
If I tell a good person that they will live and then they rely on their goodness and start sinning, then none of the good things they did will be remembered; he will die because of the sins.
14 Ate bwe ndigamba omwonoonyi nti, ‘Mazima ddala olifa,’ naye n’akyuka okuleka ebibi bye, n’akola ebyalagirwa era ebituufu,
But if I tell a bad person, ‘You're going to die’ and they stop sinning and do what is good and right,
15 era bw’alisasula ebbanja lye, n’azaayo ne bye yabba, n’atambulira mu mateeka agaleeta obulamu, n’atayonoona, mazima ddala aliba mulamu, talifa.
if they return security given for a loan, pay back what they've stolen, and follows my laws about how to live, not doing wrong—then they will live; they won't die.
16 Tewaliba ne kimu ku bibi bye yakola ebirijjukirwa eri ye; aliba akoze ebyalagirwa era ebituufu, era aliba mulamu.
None of their sins will be remembered; they have done what is good and right and so they will live.
17 “Naye ate abantu ab’ensi yo boogera nti, Ekkubo lya Mukama si lya bwenkanya, so nga ate ekkubo lyabwe lye litali lya bwenkanya.
However, your people are complaining, ‘What the Lord does isn't right.’ But it's what they're doing that isn't right.
18 Omuntu omutuukirivu bw’alikyuka okuva mu butuukirivu bwe n’akola ebibi, alifa olw’ebibi bye.
If a good person stops doing good and sins, they will die because of it.
19 Ate omukozi w’ebibi bw’alikyuka okuleka obutali butuukirivu bwe n’akola ebyalagirwa era ebituufu, aliba mulamu olw’ebyo by’akoze.
On the other hand, if a bad person turns from their sins and they do what is good and right, they will live as a result.
20 Naye mmwe ennyumba ya Isirayiri ne mwogera nti, ‘Ekkubo lya Mukama si lya bwenkanya.’ Naye ndibasalira omusango buli muntu amakubo ge nga bwe gali.”
So how can you say, ‘What the Lord does isn't right’? Well, I'm going to judge each of you depending on what you've done, people of Israel.”
21 Mu mwaka ogw’ekkumi n’ebiri nga tuli mu buwaŋŋanguse, mu mwezi ogw’ekkumi ku lunaku olwokutaano, omusajja kaawonawo n’ava e Yerusaalemi n’ajja okuntegeeza nti, “Ekibuga kiwambiddwa.”
On the fifth day of the tenth month of the twelfth year of our exile, a refugee who'd escaped from Jerusalem arrived and told me, “The city has been captured!”
22 Naye akawungeezi nga kaawonawo tannatuuka, omukono gwa Mukama gwali gunziseeko, ng’asumuludde akamwa kange, omusajja n’alyoka atuuka enkeera. Nnali ntandise okwogera nga sikyali kasiru.
The previous evening before the messenger arrived the Lord had touched me so I could speak again. This was before the man came to see me in the morning. I wasn't mute any longer—I could speak again.
23 Awo ekigambo kya Mukama Katonda ne kinzijira n’aŋŋamba nti,
A message from the Lord came to me, saying,
24 “Omwana w’omuntu, abatuuze ab’omu matongo ago mu nsi ya Isirayiri, boogera nti, ‘Obanga Ibulayimu yali muntu omu n’agabana ensi, naffe abangi, tuligabana.’
“Son of man, people living among the ruins in Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one man, but the country was given to him to own. There's plenty of us, so the country should belong to us.’
25 Noolwekyo bategeeze nti, ‘Bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama Katonda ow’eggye nti, Bwe muba nga mulya ennyama erimu omusaayi, ne musinza bakatonda bammwe abalala, ne muyiwa omusaayi, musaanidde okugabana ensi?
So tell them that this is what the Lord God says: You eat meat with the blood still in it. You go and worship your idols. You commit murder. Do you really think the country should belong to you?
26 Mwesiga ekitala, ne mukola eby’ekivve, buli musajja n’ayenda ku muka muliraanwa we. Kale munaayinza mutya okugabana ensi?’
You rely on your swords to get your way. You have done some disgusting things. You're all having sex with each other's wives. Should the country belong to you?
27 “Bagambe nti, ‘Bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama Katonda nti: Nga bwe ndi omulamu, abaasigalawo mu bifulukwa balittibwa n’ekitala, n’abo abaliba ku ttale balitaagulwataagulwa ensolo enkambwe, n’abo abaliba beekwese mu biro ebinywevu ne mu mpuku balifa kawumpuli.
Tell them that this is what the Lord God says: As I live, in the people living among the ruins will be killed by the sword. Those living in the countryside will be eaten by wild animals. Those living in the fortresses and caves will die from disease.
28 Era ensi ndigifuula amatongo era etaliimu mugaso, era n’amaanyi ge yeewaana nago galikoma, era n’ensozi za Isirayiri ziryabulirwa, ne wataba n’omu azitambulirako.
I will turn the country into a wasteland, and power you are so proud of will be ended. The mountains of Israel will become wild places that no one will want to travel through.
29 Olwo balimanya nga nze Mukama Katonda, bwe ndifuula ensi okuba amatongo era etaliimu mugaso olw’ebikolwa eby’ekivve bye bakoze.’
Then the people will acknowledge that I am the Lord, when I have turned the country into a wasteland because of all the disgusting things they have done.
30 “Naawe ggwe omwana w’omuntu, abatuuze ab’omu ggwanga lyo abatuula ku Bbugwe ne mu nzigi ez’amayumba bagambagana nti, ‘Mujje tuwulire ekigambo ekiva eri Mukama Katonda,’
Son of man, your people are talking about you out in the streets and in the doorways of their houses. They encourage one another, saying, ‘Come on! Let's go and hear a message from the Lord!’
31 abantu bange nga bwe batera okukola, ne bawulira byoyogera naye ne batabikola, ne boolesa okwagala kwabwe n’emimwa gyabwe, naye ng’emitima gyabwe gigoberera amagoba gaabwe,
So my people come and visit you like they usually do. They sit and listen to the message you share, but they don't do anything about it. Even though they talk about love, all they're thinking about is how to cheat others.
32 laba gye bali oli ng’omuntu ayimba oluyimba olw’okwagala mu ddoboozi eddungi, era amanyi okukuba obulungi ennanga, kubanga bawulira ebigambo byo naye ne batabissamu nkola.
In fact, to them you're just someone who sings love songs with a lovely voice and who is a fine musician. They listen to the message you share, but they don't do anything about it.
33 “Bino byonna bwe birituukirira, era bijja kutuukirira, kale balimanya nga nnabbi abadde mu bo.”
So when what you say does happen (and it will), then they will realize that they did have a prophet among them.”
