< Danyeri 1 >

1 Mu mwaka ogwokusatu ogw’obufuzi bwa Yekoyakimu kabaka wa Yuda, Nebukadduneeza kabaka w’e Babulooni n’alumba Yerusaalemi.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoyakim the king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 Mukama n’awaayo Yekoyakimu kabaka wa Yuda, mu mukono gwa Nebukadduneeza, era n’ebintu ebimu eby’omu yeekaalu ya Katonda, Nebukadduneeza n’abiggyamu n’abitwala e Babulooni n’abiteeka mu ggwanika ery’omu ssabo lya lubaale we.
And the Lord gave up into his hand Yehoyakim the king of Judah, with part of the vessels of the house of God: and he brought them into the land of Shin'ar into the house of his god, namely, he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
3 Nebukadduneeza n’alagira Asupenaazi omukulu w’abalaawe be alonde mu Bayisirayiri ab’omu lulyo olulangira, ne mu bakungu,
And the king said unto Ashpenas, the chief of his eunuchs, that he should bring out of the children of Israel, and of the royal seed, and of the nobles,
4 abavubuka abataliiko kamogo, abalabika obulungi mu maaso, nga bategeevu mu nsonga zonna ne mu by’amagezi byonna, era abakalabakalaba mu kutegeera, era abasaanira okuweereza mu lubiri lwa kabaka. Asupenaazi yalina obuvunaanyizibwa obw’okubayigirizanga amagezi g’Abakaludaaya, n’olulimi lwabwe.
[Certain] lads in whom there should be no kind of blemish, but who should be handsome in appearance, and intelligent in all wisdom, and acquainted with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as should have the ability to serve in the king's palace, and that these should be taught the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Kabaka n’alagira baweebwenga ku mmere ne ku wayini ebyagabulwanga ku mmeeza ya kabaka. Baali baakutendekebwa okumala emyaka esatu, n’oluvannyuma bagende baweereze kabaka.
And the king ordered for them a daily provision for its day of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank, and to educate them three years, so that at the end thereof they should serve before the king.
6 Mu abo abaalondebwa mwe mwali abaava mu Yuda, era n’amannya gaabwe baali Danyeri, ne Kananiya, ne Misayeri, ne Azaliya.
Now there were among these of the children of Judah, Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah.
7 Asupenaazi n’abawa amannya amaggya: Danyeri n’amutuuma Berutesazza, Kananiya n’amutuuma Saddulaaki, Misayeri n’amutuuma Mesaki, ne Azaliya n’amutuuma Abeduneego.
And the chief of the eunuchs assigned them names; and he assigned to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Chananyah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to 'Azaryah, of 'Abed-nego.
8 Naye Danyeri n’amalirira mu mutima gwe obuteeyonoonyesa na mmere na wayini ebyavanga ku mmeeza ya kabaka, n’asaba Asupenaazi amukkirize aleme kweyonoonyesa.
But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the food of the king, nor with the wine which he drank: and therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not need to defile himself.
9 Mu biro ebyo Katonda n’akozesa Asupenaazi okulaga ekisa n’okusaasira eri Danyeri.
And God gave Daniel kindness and mercy before the chief of the eunuchs.
10 Asupenaazi n’agamba Danyeri nti, “Ntidde mukama wange kabaka, eyalagidde mulye emmere eyo n’ebyokunywa ebyo. Singa anaabalaba nga mukozze okusinga abavubuka abalala ab’emyaka gyammwe, kabaka ajja kunzita.”
And the chief of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath ordered your food and your drink; for why should he see your face sadder looking than that of the lads who are of your age? and ye would thus endanger my head with the king.
11 Awo Danyeri n’agamba omusigire wa Asupenaazi, Asupenaazi gwe yassaawo okulabiriranga Danyeri, ne Kananiya, ne Misayeri ne Azaliya nti,
Then said Daniel to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had given charge over Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah,
12 “Nkwegayiridde ogezese abaddu bo okumala ennaku kkumi, oleme kubawa kintu kirala kyonna okuggyako enva endiirwa n’amazzi ag’okunywa.
Prove, I beseech thee, thy servants, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink;
13 N’oluvannyuma otugeraageranye n’abavubuka abalala abalya ku mmere ya kabaka, olyoke okole nga bw’onoolaba.”
And then let our countenances be looked at before thee, and the countenance of the lads that eat the food of the king: and as thou mayest see [fitting], so deal with thy servants.
14 N’akkiriziganya nabo ku nsonga eyo, n’abagezesa okumala ennaku kkumi.
And he hearkened unto them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
15 Awo ennaku ekkumi bwe zaggwaako, bo baali banyiridde era nga bafaanana bulungi okusinga abavubuka abaalyanga ku mmere ya kabaka.
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared better and fuller in flesh than [that of] all the lads who ate the food of the king.
16 Awo omusigire n’alekayo okubawa emmere yaabwe ey’enjawulo ne wayini gwe baali bateekwa okunywa, n’abawa enva endiirwa.
And the steward took away their [apportioned] food, and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
17 Abavubuka abo abana, Katonda n’abawa amagezi n’okutegeera eby’okuyiga eby’engeri zonna; Danyeri n’asukkirira mu kutegeera okw’okuvvuunula okwolesebwa okw’engeri zonna, n’ebirooto.
But as regardeth all these four lads, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Awo ekiseera kabaka kye yalagira abavubuka bonna baleetebwe, bwe kyatuuka, Asupenaazi n’abaleeta n’abalaga eri Nebukadduneeza.
And at the end of the days [after] which the king had said that they should be presented, the chief of the eunuchs presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Kabaka n’ayogera nabo, ne mutalabika mu bo bonna eyenkanaankana nga Danyeri, ne Kananiya, ne Misayeri ne Azaliya mu kutegeera; kyebaava baweebwa emirimu egy’obuvunaanyizibwa mu lubiri lwa kabaka.
And the king spoke with them; and there was not found among them all any one like Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and 'Azaryah: and so they served before the king.
20 Buli nsonga ey’amagezi n’ey’okutegeera kabaka gye yababuuzanga, baali bagitegeera emirundi kkumi okusinga abasawo n’abafumu bonna, mu bwakabaka bwe bwonna.
And in every matter of wise understanding, which the king required of them, he found them ten times superior above all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his kingdom.
21 Awo Danyeri n’aba muweereza mukulu mu bwakabaka okutuusa ku mwaka ogw’olubereberye ogwa Kabaka Kuulo.
And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
