< Ebikolwa by’Abatume 8 >

1 Sawulo yali omu ku abo abaawagira okuttibwa kwa Suteefano. Era ku lunaku olwo okuyigganya Ekkanisa ne kutandika n’amaanyi mangi nnyo mu Yerusaalemi. Abakkiriza bonna, okuggyako abatume, ne basaasaanira mu Buyudaaya ne mu Samaliya.
And, Saul, was taking pleasure with them in his death. Moreover there arose, in that day, a great persecution against the assembly which was in Jerusalem; [and], all, were scattered abroad throughout the countries of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
2 Abantu ba Katonda ne baggyawo Suteefano ne bamutwala ne bamuziika mu kwaziirana okungi.
Howbeit reverent men assisted at the burial of Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.
3 Naye Sawulo n’akolerera okuzikiriza Ekkanisa; n’agenda buli wantu ng’akwata abasajja n’abakazi n’abatwala mu kkomera.
But, Saul, went on to lay waste the assembly, along the houses, going in, and, dragging off both men and women, was
4 Naye abakkiriza abadduka mu Yerusaalemi ne bagenda mu buli kifo nga babuulira Enjiri ya Yesu.
They, indeed, therefore, who were scattered abroad, passed through, telling the good-news of the word;
5 Awo Firipo, n’alaga mu kimu ku bibuga bya Samaliya n’abuulira abantu Enjiri ya Kristo.
And, Philip, going down unto the city of Samaria, proclaimed unto them the Christ.
6 Ebibiina ne bimuwuliriza nnyo kubanga abantu bonna baalaba ebyamagero bye yakola.
And the multitudes began to give heed unto the things that were being spoken by Philip, with one accord, when they heard him, and saw the signs which he was working.
7 Baddayimooni bangi ne bava ku bantu nga bwe baleekaana; abaali bakoozimbye n’abalema bonna ne bawonyezebwa;
For, from many who had impure spirits, shouting with a loud voice, they were going out, and, many that were paralysed and lame, were cured.
8 ekibuga ne kijjula essanyu.
And there came to be great joy in that city.
9 Waaliwo omusajja erinnya lye Simooni eyali omufumu omwatiikirivu mu kibuga omwo era nga yeewuunyisa nnyo abantu bonna mu Samaliya. Yeeyogerangako nti muntu mukulu era wa kitiibwa.
But, a certain man named Simon, was already in the city, practising magical arts, and astonishing the nation of Samaria, —saying that himself was someone great:
10 Era abantu bangi ab’ekitiibwa n’abatali ba kitiibwa baamwogerangako nti, “Omusajja oyo ge maanyi ga Katonda agayitibwa, ‘Amangi.’”
Unto whom all were giving heed, from small even to great, saying—This, is the Power of God, which is called Great.
11 Ne bamussangako nnyo omwoyo olw’ebyobufuusa bye yakolanga.
And they were giving heed to him, because that, for a considerable time, with his magical arts, he had astonished them.
12 Naye bwe bakkiriza obubaka bwa Firipo ng’abuulira ku bwakabaka bwa Katonda n’erinnya lya Yesu Kristo abasajja n’abakazi ne babatizibwa.
But, when they believed Philip telling the good news concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they proceeded to be immersed, both men and women.
13 Awo ne Simooni yennyini n’akkiriza era n’abatizibwa, n’agobereranga Firipo buli gye yalaganga; era ebyamagero Firipo bye yakolanga, Simooni n’abyewuunya nnyo.
And, Simon himself also, believed; and, having been immersed, was in constant attendance on Philip, —and, beholding signs and great works of power coming to pass, was astonished.
14 Awo abatume abaali mu Yerusaalemi bwe baawulira ng’abantu mu Samaliya bakkirizza ekigambo kya Katonda, ne babatumira Peetero ne Yokaana.
And the Apostles who were in Jerusalem, hearing that Samaria had welcomed the word of God, sent out unto them Peter and John;
15 Bwe baatuuka ne basabira abakkiriza bano abaggya bafune Mwoyo Mutukuvu,
Who, indeed, going down, prayed for them, that they might receive Holy Spirit; —
16 kubanga yali tannaba kubakkako, kubanga baali babatizibbwa mu linnya lya Mukama waffe Yesu kyokka.
For, not yet, had it, upon any one of them, fallen, but, only, to begin with, they had been immersed into the name of the Lord Jesus.
17 Awo Peetero ne Yokaana ne bassa emikono gyabwe ku bakkiriza abo, ne bafuna Mwoyo Mutukuvu.
Then, proceeded they to lay their hands upon them, and they were receiving Holy Spirit.
18 Simooni, Omufumu, bwe yalaba ng’abantu bafunye Mwoyo Mutukuvu olw’abatume okubassaako emikono kyokka, kyeyava atoola ensimbi aziwe abatume bamuguze obuyinza obwo.
But Simon, seeing that, through means of the laying on of the hands of the Apostles, the Spirit was being given, offered unto them money,
19 N’abagamba nti, “Mumpe obuyinza obwo, buli gwe nnassangako emikono gyange afune Mwoyo Mutukuvu!”
Saying—Give unto me also this authority, —in order that, on whomsoever may lay my hands, he may receive Holy Spirit.
20 Naye Peetero n’amugamba nti, “Ensimbi zo zizikirire naawe olw’okulowooza nti ekirabo kya Katonda kiyinza okugulibwa obugulibwa n’ensimbi.
And Peter said unto him—Thy silver, with thee, go to destruction! Because, the free-gift of God, thou didst suppose could, with money, be obtained!
21 Mu nsonga eno tolinaamu mugabo kubanga omutima gwo si mulongoofu mu maaso ga Katonda.
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter; for, thy heart, is not upright before God.
22 Noolwekyo weenenye ekikolwa ekyo ekibi weegayirire Mukama, oboolyawo Katonda ayinza okukusonyiwa ebirowoozo byo ebyo ebibi.
Repent, therefore, from this thy baseness, and entreat of the Lord—whether, after all, the purpose of thy heart shall be forgiven thee;
23 Kubanga ndaba nga mu mutima gwo mujjudde obuggya, era oli muddu wa kibi.”
For see that thou servest as a gall-root of bitterness, and a bond of unrighteousness.
24 Simooni n’abeegayirira nti, “Munsabire eri Mukama ebintu ebyo bye mwogedde bireme okuntuukako.”
And Simon, answering, said—Entreat ye, in my behalf, unto the Lord; that, nothing, may come upon me, of the things whereof ye have spoken!
25 Awo Peetero ne Yokaana bwe baamala okubuulira ekigambo kya Katonda n’obuvumu, ne basitula okuddayo mu Yerusaalemi, nga bagenda babuulira Enjiri mu bibuga bingi bye baayitangamu mu Samaliya.
They, therefore, having fully borne witness, and spoken the word of the Lord, began their return unto Jerusalem, and, unto many villages of the Samaritans, were they telling the glad tidings.
26 Awo malayika wa Mukama n’agamba Firipo nti, “Kwata ekkubo eriraga mu bukiikaddyo, eriva e Yerusaalemi nga liyita mu ddungu okugenda e Ggaaza.”
And, a messenger of the Lord, spake unto Philip, saying—Arise, and be journeying along southward, unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, —the same, is desert.
27 Firipo n’akwata ekkubo eryo. Mu kiseera ekyo waaliwo omusajja Omwesiyopya mu kkubo eryo ng’ava mu kusinza e Yerusaalemi. Yali mulaawe nga mukungu mu lubiri lwa Kandake, kabaka omukazi owa Esiyopya, era ye yali omuwanika we omukulu.
And, arising, he journeyed. And lo! a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, one in power under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure [who] had come to worship in Jerusalem;
28 Yali atudde mu ggaali lye ng’addayo ewaabwe nga bw’asoma ekitabo kya nnabbi Isaaya.
And was returning, and, sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
29 Awo Mwoyo Mutukuvu n’agamba Firipo nti, “Semberera eggaali eryo oligendereko.”
And the Spirit said unto Philip—Go near, and join thyself unto this chariot!
30 Firipo n’adduka n’atuuka ku ggaali, n’awulira Omwesiyopya ng’asoma mu kitabo kya nnabbi Isaaya. N’amubuuza nti, “By’osoma obitegeera?”
And, running near, Philip heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said—Dost thou, then, understand what thou art reading?
31 Omwesiyopya n’addamu nti, “Nnaabitegeera ntya nga sirina abinnyinnyonnyola?” N’asaba Firipo ayingire mu ggaali lye batuule bombi.
And, he, said—How indeed should be able—unless someone shall guide me? And he called upon Philip, to come up and sit with him.
32 Ekyawandiikibwa kye yali asoma nga kigamba bwe kiti nti: “Yatwalibwa ng’endiga egenda okuttibwa. Ng’omwana gw’endiga bwe gusiriikirira nga bagusalako ebyoya, naye bw’atyo teyayasamya kamwa ke.
Now, the passage of Scripture which he was reading, was, this: —As a sheep, unto slaughter, was he led, and, as a lamb, before him that sheareth it, is dumb, so, he openeth not his mouth.
33 Yajoogebwa n’atalamulwa mu bwenkanya. Ani alyogera ku bazzukulu be? Kubanga ekiseera kye eky’obulamu bwe ku nsi kyakoma!”
In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away, —his generation, who shall describe? because, his life, is taken away from the earth.
34 Omulaawe kwe kubuuza Firipo nti, “Nnyinnyonnyola, munnange, nnabbi gw’ayogerako; yeeyogerako yekka oba ayogera ku mulala?”
And the eunuch, making answer unto Philip, said—I pray thee! Of whom, is the prophet saying this? of himself, or, of some different person?
35 Awo Firipo n’atandika n’Ekyawandiikibwa ekyo n’amubuulira Enjiri ya Yesu Kristo.
And Philip, opening his mouth, and beginning from this scripture, told him the glad tidings of Jesus.
36 Bwe baali bagenda ne batuuka awali amazzi, omulaawe n’agamba nti, “Laba amazzi! Kale lwaki sibatizibwa?”
And, as they were journeying along the way, they came unto a certain water, —and the eunuch saith—Lo! water! What doth hinder my being immersed?
37 Awo Firipo n’amugamba nti, “Oyinza okubatizibwa, bw’oba ng’okkiriza n’omutima gwo gwonna.” Omulaawe n’addamu nti, “Nzikiriza nga Yesu Kristo Mwana wa Katonda.”
38 Awo n’alagira omugoba w’eggaali lye okuyimirira, ne bakka mu mazzi, Firipo n’amubatiza.
And he commanded the chariot to stand still; and they went down, both, into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, —and he immersed him.
39 Bwe baava mu mazzi amangwago Omwoyo wa Mukama n’atwala Firipo, Omulaawe n’ataddayo kumulaba nate, naye n’atambula olugendo lwe ng’ajjudde essanyu.
But, when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no more; for he was going on his way rejoicing.
40 Naye Firipo n’alabikira mu Azoto, n’agenda ng’abuulira Enjiri mu bibuga byonna eby’omu kitundu ekyo okutuukira ddala e Kayisaliya.
Now Philip was found at Azotus; and, passing through, he was telling the glad tidings unto all the cities, until he came unto Caesarea.
