1 Awo mu biseera ebyo abakkiriza bwe baagenda beeyongera obungi, ne wabaawo okwemulugunya mu Bakerenisiti ku Baebbulaniya nti bannamwandu baabwe basosolwa, ne bataweebwa kyenkanyi.
And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2 Awo ekkumi n’ababiri ne bakuŋŋaanya ekibiina ky’abayigirizwa, ne babagamba nti, “Kirungi ebiseera byaffe tubimalire ku kubuulira Njiri, so si mu kugabanya mmere.
Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples [unto them], and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Noolwekyo, abooluganda, mwerondemu abasajja musanvu, abasiimibwa abantu, ng’abantu b’amagezi, era abajjudde Mwoyo Mutukuvu, tubakwase omulimu ogwo.
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 Ffe tulyoke twemalire ku kusaba, n’okubuulira n’okuyigiriza.”
But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
5 Ebigambo ebyo byonna abaakuŋŋaana ne babisiima. Ne balonda Suteefano, omusajja eyali ajjudde okukkiriza ne Mwoyo Mutukuvu, ne Firipo, ne Pulokolo, ne Nikanoli, ne Timooni, ne Pammena, ne Nikolaawo eyava mu Antiyokiya,
And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6 ne babanjula eri abatume. Abatume ne babasabira, ne babasaako emikono.
Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid [their] hands on them.
7 Awo ekigambo kya Katonda ne kyeyongera okubuna n’omuwendo gw’abayigirizwa ne gweyongera obunene mu Yerusaalemi; era ne bakabona, ekibiina kinene, ne beewaayo okukkiriza.
And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 Suteefano, ng’ajjudde ekisa kya Katonda n’amaanyi, n’akolanga ebyamagero bingi n’obubonero mu bantu.
And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 Naye abamu ku b’omu kuŋŋaaniro abeeyitanga Abalibettino, n’Abakuleene n’Abalegezanderiya, n’Abakirukiya n’Abasiya, ne bawakana ne Suteefano.
Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called [the synagogue] of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10 Kyokka tebaasobola kuwakanya magezi n’Omwoyo bye yayogeza.
And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
11 Kyebaava baweerera abantu nga bagamba nti twamuwulira ng’ayogera ebigambo ebivvoola Musa ne Katonda.
Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and [against] God.
12 Abantu n’abakulembeze b’Abayudaaya n’abannyonnyozi b’amateeka ne banyiiga nnyo. Ne bakwata Suteefano ne bamuleeta mu Lukiiko Olukulu.
And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon [him], and caught him, and brought [him] to the council,
13 Abajulizi ab’obulimba ne boogera nti, “Omuntu ono buli kiseera avvoola ekifo kino ekitukuvu n’amateeka.
And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
14 Era twamuwulira ng’agamba nti Yesu ono Omunnazaaleesi agenda kuzikiriza ekifo kino n’obulombolombo bwonna Musa bwe yatulekera abukyuse.”
For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
15 Ab’Olukiiko bwe baamwekaliriza amaaso, ne balaba amaaso ge ng’amasamasa ng’aga malayika!
And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
