1 Awo mu biro ebyo Kabaka Kerode n’atandika okuyigganya abamu ku bakkiriza ab’omu Kkanisa.
Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth [his] hands to vex certain of the church.
2 N’atta Yakobo muganda wa Yokaana n’ekitala.
And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
3 Bwe yalaba nga ky’akoze kisanyusizza Abayudaaya, n’akwata Peetero mu kiseera eky’Embaga ey’Emigaati Egitazimbulukuswa
And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4 n’amusiba mu kkomera, ng’amutaddeko abaserikale abamukuuma kkumi na mukaaga mu bibinja bina eby’abaserikale banabana. Kerode yali ategese amuleete mu bantu, ng’Embaga y’Okuyitako ewedde.
And when he had apprehended him, he put [him] in prison, and delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
5 Peetero n’akuumirwa mu kkomera, naye Ekkanisa n’enyiikira nnyo okumusabira eri Katonda.
Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6 Ekiro ekyo, ng’enkeera Kerode ategese okuwaayo Peetero, Peetero yali yeebase wakati w’abaserikale babiri, ng’asibiddwa n’enjegere bbiri, nga ne ku mulyango gw’ekkomera kuliko abakuumi.
And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 Laba malayika wa Mukama n’ayimirira awali Peetero, ekitangaala ne kyaka mu kisenge, Malayika n’akuba ku Peetero mu mbiriizi n’amuzuukusa ng’amugamba nti, “Yanguwa. Ggolokoka.” Enjegere ne ziva ku mikono gye ne zigwa wansi.
And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon [him], and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from [his] hands.
8 Malayika n’amugamba nti, “Weesibe olukoba lwo, oyambale n’engatto zo.” Peetero n’akola nga bw’agambiddwa. Malayika n’amugamba nti, “Kale, yambala omunagiro gwo ongoberere.”
And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 Awo Peetero n’agoberera malayika. Naye ekiseera kino kyonna ng’alowooza nti alabye kwolesebwa, nga tayinza kukitegeera nti byonna ebyali bimutuukako mu kaseera ako byaliwo ddala.
And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10 Ne bayita ku bakuumi abasooka n’abookubiri ne batuuka ku luggi olunene olw’ekyuma olufuluma mu kkomera nga luggukira mu kibuga. Luno ne lweggulawo lwokka, ne bayitamu. Bwe baatambulako akabanga mu luguudo mu kibuga, amangwago malayika n’amuleka.
When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
11 Awo Peetero bwe yeddamu n’alyoka ategeera bwe bibadde, n’agamba nti, “Ntegeeredde ddala nga Mukama yatumye malayika we n’anziggya mu mukono gwa Kerode, era n’amponya n’eby’akabi byonna Abayudaaya bye babadde bantegekedde.”
And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and [from] all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
12 Bwe yamala okukakasa ebyo munda ye, n’atambula n’alaga mu maka ga Maliyamu nnyina wa Yokaana Makko, abantu bangi gye baali bakuŋŋaanidde nga basaba.
And when he had considered [the thing], he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
13 Awo Peetero n’akonkona ku luggi olunene olw’ebweru, omuwala omuweereza erinnya lye Looda n’ajja okuggulawo.
And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
14 Naye bwe yategeera nga ddoboozi lya Peetero essanyu ne limuyitirira, n’adduka buddusi nga n’oluggi talugguddeewo, n’ategeeza abaali mu nju nti, “Peetero ali wabweru ku luggi!”
And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.
15 Naye abaali mu nju ne bamuddamu nti, “Oguddemu akazoole.” Naye ne yeyongera okulumiriza nti ky’agamba bwe kiri. Ne bagamba nti, “Oyo malayika we.”
And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
16 Naye Peetero n’ayongera okukonkona. Oluvannyuma ne bagenda ne baggulawo oluggi, ne bamulaba. Ne basamaalirira nnyo.
But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened [the door], and saw him, they were astonished.
17 N’abakomako basirike, n’alyoka abategeeza byonna ebyamubaddeko, nga Mukama bwe yamusumuludde mu kkomera. N’abagamba nti, “Mutegeeze Yakobo n’abooluganda bino byonna ebibaddewo.” Awo n’afuluma n’alaga mu kifo ekirala.
But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
18 Enkeera ekkomera ne lijjula akagugumuko ng’abaserikale beebuuza nti, “Peetero abulidde wa?”
Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
19 Awo Kerode bwe yamutumya ne basanga nga taliiyo, ne bamunoonya n’ababula. Abaserikale bwe baamala okuwozesebwa n’alagira babafulumye babatte. Oluvannyuma Kerode n’ava e Buyudaaya n’agenda abeera e Kayisaliya.
And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that [they] should be put to death. And he went down from Judæa to Cæsarea, and [there] abode.
20 Kerode yali anyiigidde abantu b’e Ttuulo n’e Sidoni. Awo ne bamuweereza ababaka baabwe okujja okumulaba, ne bakwana omuwandiisi we Bulasito, era n’abayamba okubatuusiza ensonga zaabwe ewa Kerode nga bamusaba emirembe, kubanga emmere eyali eriisa ebibuga byabwe byombi yali eva mu nsi ya kabaka.
And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s [country].
21 Awo olunaku olwategekebwa bwe lwatuuka, Kerode n’ayambala eminagiro gye egy’obwakabaka n’atuula ku ntebe ye ey’obwakabaka, n’ayogera eri ababaka n’abantu bonna.
And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22 Abantu bonna ne boogera mu ddoboozi ery’omwanguka nti, “Lino ddoboozi lya Katonda so si lya muntu!”
And the people gave a shout, [saying, It is] the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23 Amangwago malayika wa Mukama n’amubonereza, n’ajjula envunyu yenna, ne zimulya n’afa, kubanga yakkiriza abantu ne bamusinza, n’atawa Katonda kitiibwa.
And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24 Awo ekigambo kya Katonda ne kyeyongera okubuna wonna.
But the word of God grew and multiplied.
25 Balunabba ne Sawulo bwe baamala okutuukiriza ekyabaleeta mu Yerusaalemi, ne baddayo ne Yokaana ayitibwa Makko.
And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled [their] ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
