< 2 Bassekabaka 14 >
1 Mu mwaka ogwokubiri ogw’obufuzi bwa Yowaasi mutabani wa Yowakazi kabaka wa Isirayiri, Amaziya mutabani wa Yowaasi ssekabaka wa Yuda n’alya obwakabaka.
In the second year of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, began to reign.
2 Yali aweza emyaka amakumi abiri mu etaano weyatandikira okufuga, era n’afugira emyaka amakumi abiri mu mwenda mu Yerusaalemi. Nnyina erinnya lye ye yali Yekoyadiini ow’e Yerusaalemi.
He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddan, of Jerusalem.
3 N’akola ebirungi mu maaso ga Mukama, newaakubadde nga tebyenkana bya jjajjaawe Dawudi bye yakola. Mu buli nsonga yonna yagobereranga ekyokulabirako kya Yowaasi kitaawe.
He did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, yet not like David his father. He did everything that Joash, his father, had done.
4 Kyokka beeyongeranga okuweerayo ssaddaaka n’okwoterezanga obubaane ku bifo ebigulumivu kubanga byali tebiggyiddwawo.
But the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burned incense at the high places.
5 Bwe yalaba ng’obwakabaka bunywezeddwa mu buyinza bwe, n’atta abakungu abaatemula kabaka kitaawe.
It came about that as soon as his rule was well established, he killed the servants who had murdered his father, the king.
6 Wabula teyatta batabani baabwe kubanga mu byawandiikibwa mu Kitabo eky’Amateeka ga Musa, Mukama yalagira nti, “Abazadde tebattibwenga ku lw’abaana, so n’abaana tebattibwenga ku lw’abazadde baabwe; buli muntu anaafanga olw’ebibi bye ye.”
Yet he did not put the sons of the murderers to death; instead, he acted according to what was written in the Book of the Law Moses, as Yahweh had commanded, saying, “The fathers must not be put to death for their children, neither must the children be put to death for their parents. Instead, every person must be put to death for his own sin.”
7 Yawangula ab’e Edomu mu Kiwonvu eky’Omunnyo, era n’atta omutwalo gumu ku bo, n’okuwamba n’awamba Seera mu lutalo, n’akituuma Yokuseeri, era kye kikyayitibwa ne ku lunaku lwa leero.
He killed ten thousand soldiers of Edom in the Valley of Salt; he also took Sela in war and called it Joktheel, which is what it is called to this day.
8 Awo mu biro ebyo Amaziya n’atumira Yekoyaasi mutabani wa Yekoyakaazi, muzzukulu wa Yeeku, kabaka wa Isirayiri, obubaka ng’amusosonkereza nti, “Jjangu tulabagane amaaso n’amaaso.”
Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us meet each other face to face in battle.”
9 Naye Yekoyaasi kabaka wa Isirayiri n’addamu Amaziya kabaka wa Yuda nti, “Omwennyango mu Lebanooni gw’aweereza obubaka eri omuvule mu Lebanooni nga gugamba nti, ‘Waayo muwala wo afumbirwe mutabani wange.’ Naye ensolo enkambwe eya Lebanooni bwe yali ng’eyitawo n’erinnyirira omwennyango.
But Jehoash the king of Israel sent messengers back to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “A thistle that was in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for a wife,' but a wild beast in Lebanon walked by and trampled down the thistle.
10 Kaakano wegulumizza kubanga owangudde Edomu. Wenyumirize mu buwanguzi bwo ewuwo. Lwaki oyagala okweleetera emitawaana, n’okugwa kwo era n’okwa Yuda?”
You have indeed attacked Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Take pride in your victory, but stay at home, for why should you cause yourself trouble and fall, both you and Judah with you?”
11 Naye Amaziya teyawuliriza, era ekyavaamu Yekoyaasi kabaka wa Isirayiri n’amulumba. Ne balabagana amaaso n’amaaso mu lutalo e Besusemesi ekya Yuda.
But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel attacked and he and Amaziah king of Judah met each other face to face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
12 Yuda n’awangulibwa Isirayiri, buli musajja n’addukira ewuwe.
Judah was defeated by Israel, and every man fled home.
13 Awo Yekoyaasi kabaka wa Isirayiri n’awambira Amaziya kabaka wa Yuda mutabani wa Yekoyaasi muzzukulu wa Akaziya e Besusemesi; Yekoyaasi ne yeeyongerayo e Yerusaalemi, n’amenyaamenya bbugwe wa Yerusaalemi, obuwanvu mita kikumi mu kinaana, okuva ku wankaaki wa Efulayimu okutuuka ku wankaaki ow’oku Nsonda.
Jehoash king of Israel, captured Amaziah, king of Judah son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. He came to Jerusalem and tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits in distance.
14 N’atwala ezaabu n’effeeza yonna, n’ebikozesebwa byonna ebyali mu yeekaalu ya Mukama, n’eby’obugagga ebyali mu lubiri lwa kabaka, era n’abantu n’abatwala nga basibe, n’addayo e Samaliya.
He took all the gold and silver, all the objects that were found in the house of Yahweh, and the valuable things in the king's palace, with hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
15 Ebyafaayo ebirala byonna ebyaliwo mu mirembe gya Yekoyaasi, ne bye yakola n’ebyamagero bye, ne bwe yatabaala Amaziya kabaka wa Yuda, tebyawandiikibwa mu kitabo eky’ebyomumirembe gya bassekabaka ba Isirayiri?
As for the other matters concerning Jehoash, all that he did, his power, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Israel?
16 Yekoyaasi n’afa n’aziikibwa mu Samaliya mu masiro ga bakabaka ba Isirayiri. Mutabani we Yerobowaamu n’amusikira okuba kabaka.
Then Jehoash slept with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and Jeroboam, his son, became king in his place.
17 Awo Amaziya mutabani wa Yowaasi n’awangaala emyaka kkumi n’ettaano emirala oluvannyuma lw’okufa kwa Yekoyaasi mutabani wa Yekoyakaazi kabaka wa Isirayiri.
Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.
18 Ebyafaayo ebirala eby’omulembe gwa Amaziya, tebyawandiikibwa mu kitabo eky’ebyomumirembe gya bassekabaka ba Yuda?
As for the other matters concerning Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Judah?
19 Ne bamusalira olukwe olw’okumuttira mu Yerusaalemi, n’addukira e Lakisi, naye ne bamuwerekereza abasajja era ne bamuttira e Lakisi.
They made a conspiracy against Amaziah in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. He fled to Lachish, but they sent men after him to Lachish and killed him there.
20 Ne bakomyawo omulambo gwe ku mbalaasi, era n’aziikibwa ku biggya bya bajjajjaabe mu Yerusaalemi, mu kibuga kya Dawudi.
They brought him back on horses, and he was buried with his ancestors in the city of David.
21 Awo eggwanga lyonna erya Yuda, ne bafuula Azaliya ow’emyaka ekkumi n’omukaaga kabaka, ng’asikira kitaawe Amaziya.
All the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
22 Ye yaddaabiriza Erasi era n’azza Yuda obuggya, nga Amaziya amaze okufa.
It was Azariah who rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah, after King Amaziah slept with his ancestors.
23 Mu mwaka ogw’ekkumi n’ettaano ogw’obufuzi bwa Amaziya mutabani wa Yowaasi kabaka wa Yuda, Yerobowaamu II mutabani wa Yowaasi ssekabaka wa Isirayiri n’afuuka kabaka mu Samaliya, era n’afugira emyaka amakumi ana mu gumu.
In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Jehoash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria; he reigned forty-one years.
24 N’akola ebibi mu maaso ga Mukama, n’atakyuka okuva mu bibi ebya Yerobowaamu mutabani wa Nebati bye yayonoonyesa Isirayiri.
He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh. He did not depart from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin.
25 Yatuukiriza ekigambo kya Mukama, Katonda wa Isirayiri kye yayogerera mu muddu we Yona mutabani wa Amitayi nnabbi ow’e Gasukeferi, n’azzaawo ensalo ya Isirayiri okuva ku mulyango gwa Kamasi okutuuka ku Nnyanja ey’Omunnyo.
He restored the border of Israel from Lebo Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, following the commands of the word of Yahweh, the God of Israel, which he had spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath Hepher.
26 Mukama yalaba okubonaabona kwa buli omu mu Isirayiri, omuddu n’atali muddu, nga tewali ayinza ku babeera.
For Yahweh saw the suffering of Israel, that it was very bitter for everyone, both slave and free, and that there was no rescuer for Israel.
27 Olw’okubanga Mukama yali tagambye nti alisaanyaawo erinnya lya Isirayiri wansi w’eggulu, n’atuma Yerobowaamu II mutabani wa Yowaasi okubalokola.
So Yahweh said that he would not blot out the name of Israel under heaven; instead, he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.
28 Ebyafaayo ebirala ebyabaawo mu mirembe gya Yerobowaamu II, ne byonna bye yakola, ne bwe yalwana entalo n’obuzira, n’engeri gye yakomezaawo Isirayiri Ddamasiko ne Kamasi ebyali ebya Yuda, tebyawandiikibwa mu kitabo eky’ebyomumirembe gya bassekabaka ba Isirayiri?
As for the other matters concerning Jeroboam, all that he did, his power, how he waged war and recovered Damascus and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Israel?
29 Yerobowaamu ne yeebakira wamu ne bajjajjaabe, bassekabaka ba Isirayiri, Zekkaliya mutabani we n’amusikira okuba kabaka.
Jeroboam slept with his ancestors, with the kings of Israel, and Zechariah his son became king in his place.
